The Real Hangover 2 : Return To Paradise!
I know everyone has gone completely crazy about “The Hangover 2” a sequel I have yet to see. I did however see the first movie and I will admit it had a few good laughs-though hearing about The Hangover 2’s plot really got me thinking about another movie which I love. However it also makes me hope that the boys in the third upcoming film highly consider NOT going to Malaysia for the next party!
It seems to me that people who are looking for a little more realism (I’m not sure there are any looking but what the hell huh?!) in the upcoming Hangover 3 sequel need to check out “Return to Paradise” starring Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix! Nope it’s really NOT a comedy But it involves 3 dudes who hang around in Malaysia only to see some of the real consequences of partyin’ hardy Americans in so called paradise.
The 1998 movie is actually pretty damn good flick and will no doubt have you on the edge of your seat. Anyway there are a lot of similarities only minus the crazy monkey…. check it out before you think of traveling abroad and fuckin’ things up in paradise like the three dudes in the Hangover!! Things could get ugly!
The Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Wasn’t THAT Bad!
So I finally got around to seeing the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie “On Stranger Tides”, the fourth installment to the ridiculously popular Disney franchise. I know what you’re thinkin’, does this movie really need any more hype? Probably not, but I waited on seeing this one a little longer than I’d originally planned because of all the awful reviews I have seen that the critics gave. I was initially going to see it opening weekend as I really do like the previous films. The first one was awesome while the second and the third were just pure popcorn. So what gives with this new film? Well to be honest it didn’t really seem different than the previous films as far as quality goes. I have to say as far as sequels go it was at least as good as the second and third films if not maybe even dare I say…..a bit better?!
There were a few things I liked better this time around than in the previous Pirates, one being the absence of Bloom and Knightley! Thank god that those two characters were axed from the fourth film! Them returning in the previous sequels was simply just too much extra bland, boring baggage-I mean we all spent a LOT of screen time on their lame sub plot snooze fest romance story in the first three films…it was nice to have a story that really revolved around pirates.
Also it felt a bit more like the first flick as the story and effects were much more simple, stream lined and focused. The last two movies crammed way too much shit down your throat. From tired sub plots, to cg infested imagery and characters, the last two movies at the end of the day felt like a big sloppy mess. Don’t get me wrong they were a fun mess-kinda like eating a sloppy joe that’s just too big.
This installment much like the first kept the supernatural elements much more subdued. You basically get mermaids, the fountain of youth, high adventure and a lot of pirates. It seems though that the critics really love to dissect movies like this. Why?! Does anyone take these films seriously? They all have sub par acting and outrageous story lines. They are pure popcorn flicks at best and they are probably the best of the cheezy summer blockbusters. Let’s all not forget either that they’re based on a damn ride at Disney World for cryin’ out loud! So to set the record straight I think this newest film was a real fun time at the movies, better than what I was expecting and a welcome chapter in the saga of Sparrow and the Pirates of the Caribbean…..I’ll be back on deck for a fifth!
Guillermo Del Toro to Remake The Swamp Thing?
Well no actually, but wouldn’t that be awesome?!? It occured to me last night as I threw in Wes “Scre4m” Craven’s Swamp Thing last night before I hit the sack that there are some movies that I’d welcome a remake for provided they have the right director attached-Swamp thing is one such movie.
That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy the ridiculous vibe of the original Swamp thing or even the more campy (if you can believe that) Swamp Thing 2 Continue reading
What do David Bowie & Wolverine Have in Common?
Word on the street is that The Wolverine, the sequel to the god damn awful “X-men Origins: Wolverine” is possibly back on track after the recent depressing news that Darren Aronofsky, had left the project. Naturally I thought the worst, thinking our new director would be some hack like Michael Bay or Uwe Boll and we’d get a repeat of the last movie-more shit served up hot for us true Wolverine fans.
Well it seems someone out there still gives a damn about ol’ Wolvie as new has hit that Duncan Jones, son of David Bowie and director of the amazing sci-fi movie Moon and most recently Source Code (which I’ve yet to see). If you’ve seen his work you’ll agree that if he does indeed direct The Wolverine we’ll be getting something special from a director who actually cares about the final product. So once again, I am excited about a new Wolverine movie, so please guys don’t let me down again….
Check this interview out where we get a little bit of the scoop on Wolverine!
Top 5 Action Stars for The Expendables 2!
So it’s been confirmed that The Expendables 2 is a go and now what everyone is wondering is who is going to be added to this list of action stars for the second time around? Well all you out there in Hollywood take a seat and listen up-here’s who you gotta put in the next movie! Now I’m only adding people from the 80’s to this list-if you take my advice you’ll definately give the people what they were really hoping for out of the first one-big dumb one liners, lots of real explosions and a lot of fun! I have also just recently heard that Bolo Yeung may possibly be appearing in the sequel-and I have to say if so we’re on the right track here-brilliant!!
1. Chuck Norris – Ok so maybe Chuck is a little old as he just turned 71-but who the hell cares! I am sure he could still throw down a little bit right? Or maybe he could be an evil mastermind or an old wise good guy? I really don’t care just get Walker’s ass in this movie now! Lets not forget how much of a bad ass good ol’ Chuck is!
2. Michael Dudikoff – Ok did all you guys forget about American Ninja? Avenging Force? Dudikoff was the master action star of the 80’s who’s often forgotten! This guys kicked so much serious ass in the 80’s he deserves another shot in the big leagues-he’s only 56 yeah only 56-that’s almost 10 years younger than Sly!
Don’t Remake-Give These Top 10 Movies a Sequel!!
I am so SICK of bad remakes of movies that I grew up loving! It is though now kinda fun to see just how low they will go and what they’ll try and remake next. It seems though perhaps Hollywood is finally catching on now that most of these remakes are box office bombs! They maybe seeing that the real interest still lays within sequels to our beloved movies! We’ve already gotten a few, love em’ or hate em’ you gotta admit they were fun to wonder & wait for!
Let’s see, we’ve already gotten recent sequels to Rocky, Rambo (Great job on both Stallone!), Indiana Jones, Terminator(more or less though they should have gotten Edward Furlong or Nick Stahl in the lead) The Lost Boys (Hey I kinda liked the third one!) & Tron. We all know these movies are best served with their original directors too! Now there’s news today on a new sequel for Poltergeist with the surviving actors reprising their roles! How cool would that be?! Well it got me thinkin’…what are the top 10 movies that deserve a sequel? Well look no further this is my wish list! Continue reading
Guilty Pirate Pleasures…
So I guess it could be said that the Pirates of the Carribean movies were somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me. Really I was pretty dang impressed with all three of them-least impressed with the third film. But hey I own them all on dvd. So now we finally get to see what the fourth film, which will be starting a new trilogy will be like. I must say it looks pretty damn fun. Alot of people too are complaining that Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley aren’t in this one-however that’s one of the BEST selling points for this new installment! I personally couldn’t care less about the two of them and am so glad that we don’t have to deal with their “tender love” once again in this next movie. This one look like it’s really about the pirates this time-and personally I can’t wait to get back on board…
Recent DVD Scores!
Every now and then I come across a movie I am just flat out stoked about finding on dvd! Sometimes they’re even movies I’ve completely forgotten existed. Well one such recent score is the absolutley brilliant and yet somehow underated fantasy 80’s adventure “Return to Oz”. This is a classic and just a downright entertaining film with some amazing sets, visuals and plenty of creepy monsters to keep your eyes glued to the screen.
Perhaps that’s why many people have never seen this movie-as in 1985 it was listed on Siskel & Ebert’s “worst of” list and was described as being too intense and dark for children. How ever it did receive an academy award nomination for “best visual effects”.If you get a chance I highly recommend revisting this movie as it’s a real treat to anyone craving a good fantasy flick and if you haven’t ever seen this you need to check it out immediately! I’m pretty glad I now own this one on dvd…
There Will Be NO Wolverine Movie Sequel!! Yay!
Wow now here’s some good news out there for all of you people who actually love the character, Wolverine. It has been confirmed by Darren Aronofsky that the upcoming Wolverine movie he is directing will NOT be a sequel to that god awful pile of flaming horseshit we were delivered a couple years back entitled X-men Origins: Wolverine he tells Hitfix. Instead this movie will be an entity entirely of its own.
“The film that he’s directing is officially called “The Wolverine,” Continue reading
The Frog Brothers Are Officially Back!
Ok I have talked about the Lost Boys sequels here for quite a while and even since the shitty first sequel I have STILL not given up hope that they will finally get the third movie right! With that being said I recently discovered that the third Lost Boys movie trailer has just been put online for all to view.
One good thing you will notice is that the Frog Brothers are indeed back! Supposedly this movie is based more heavily on the recent comic book adventures.
However from the first viewing of the trailer I can’t say I am super impressed with what I see for the third film. Not that I have really ever been convinced that anyone would do a sequel correctly anyway. It seems by this trailer they once again have a bunch of douchey vampires to hunt and kill. It could just be me but I always thought the vamps in the original were pretty cool? But maybe in the 80’s people were thinking Kiefer and crew were a bunch of douches too. I was hoping for a grittier look on the film, but right now it seems so far like the Frog Brothers got dropped into an episode of True Blood, which really isn’t necessarily a bad thing…
