Who Said New Horror Movies Suck?? Doghouse Delivers the Goods!
I just finished viewing a great horror comedy that was just released this week on dvd for everyone’s Halloween viewing pleasure. ‘Doghouse’ is little a British film that certainly delivers the laughs and gore a’plenty-ala Shaun of the Dead and Severance. The plot is simple, nine middle aged men set off for a weekend of drunken mayhem to a little village in the middle of the woods called ‘Moodley’ where apparently the females outnumber the males four to one. What they arrive to however is a bit more mayhem than they bargained for as it seems this little resting place turns out to be filled with psychotic mutated she-beasts!
That’s pretty much it folks, if you have short attention span and feel like drinkin’ a few beers this halloween with your fellow fiends you best put this little gem high up on your list of movies to see. Continue reading
The Top 10 “Stranded on an Island” Movies!
I find myself thinking a lot about getting stranded on a deserted island quite alot! Perhaps it’s because of my love of the show “Lost” or maybe it’s just because life here in the USA can get a little too stressful! Well either way the dream of being stuck on one sounds quite nice most of the time but in actuality it’d probably drive me just as crazy as city life does in the end. Well here’s my top 10 stranded on an island movies (Check out part two right here!) -some of them make the idea pretty appealing as others turn the idea into a total nightmare.
Even though after watching the worst case scenarios go down I still think it’d be pretty damn fun to try and restart civilization-but it seems in the movies no matter how hard they try someone always ends up fuckin’ up the program. Good or bad these flicks are definitely worth a watch if you’re hoping to get the hell outta’ dodge! Check it out… Continue reading
Get Ready To Dig Up the Hatchet!
If you didn’t already know this Hatchet was one of the best horror flicks of 2006. It got critical acclaim from nearly every horror website (almost a little overboard though if you ask me) and it’s villain Victor Crowley has been compared to such icons as Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers. Now I’m not sure he deserves that much praise yet but the film’s director Adam Green sure deserves props for casting Friday the 13th’s Kane Hodder(Jason) as the big deformed Hillbilly.
As mush as I dug the first Hatchet I can’t say it had too much in the originality category, it’s story was pretty standard but it had one thing going for it-great old school gore Continue reading
Pig Hunt Vs. Razorback!!
I just recently finished wathing the newly released direct to dvd Fangoria Frightfest flick “Pig Hunt”. I must have tried to watch this movie four times before I actually finished it. Not that it was that boring, though maybe it did take a little bit too long to get to the real action, but mainly because I had such a crazy sleep deprived weekend out in Marfa Texas this weekend. Anyway there not too much to say really about Pig Hunt, the newest in the crazed monster wild boar genre, especially when you put it up against it older stepbrother, the amazing Razorback from 1984.
Razorback directed by Russel Mulcahy, who went on later to direct the Highlander films, was a work of art as it followed the story of a crazed Hogzilla in the Australian outback who’s on a killing spree. It’s been most effectively described as Jaws on land. With amazing effects and stunning cinematography this relatively unknown horror flicks remains as one of my fav monster movies of the 80’s. The Descent Part 3 Starring Kevin Costner!?
Ok movie fans I hope you can understand how hard it is sometimes to try and find a damn new release to watch when you’re completely spent on everything that’s been released recently. Sometimes when you’re at the video store you just gotta take a chance on a movie you’re sure is gonna be a dud. That’s where a movie like “The New Daughter” starring Waterworld superstar Kevin Costner comes into the equation. I walked around the video store for about a half hour before finally deciding the newest direct to video thriller starring Kevin Costner was going to be what me and my bottle of wine would sit and probably fall asleep to the other evening.
Yeah my friday night consisted of drying my laundry at the laundromat, drinkin’ wine alone and giving good old Costner another chance. I was curious too, has Costner even been in a theatrically released movie in the past 5 years?? Well anyway it didn’t matter as I was ready to get drunk and watch a timid generic thriller and probably dose off.
Anyway I will say the movie indeed started off like the usual PG-13 thriller, Cos moves to a new home with his son and daughter and not long after she begins to act strangely after hearing whispers in the new house. It was totally on parin the begining with Dragonfly, which I think was the closest thing Costner has done to a horror movie. However very soon in the film I was pleasantly surprised when outside the girls room, we hear a creepy moan and then we get a glimpse of a monster crawling around on their roof!! Continue reading
Let the Right One In Remake Pics!
So today via Moviehole I finally saw some stills from the upcoming remake of Let The Right One In, quite possibly one of greatest most unique vampire movies ever made. I have been severely skeptical about this particular remake now entitled “Let Me In” because simply the original is flawless. I only hope that this new American version ends up like “The Ring” remake which actually improved upon the original. The only thing now that this remake has going for it is Kick-Ass’ Chloe Mortez starring in it as the young vampiric Eli . I’ve got my fingers crossed!
Hysterical Psycho – The Best Horror Comedy Since Evil Dead 2?!!
I have been hearing alot of horror hype lately around a new indie horror flick called Hysterical Psycho directed by funny guy Dan Fogler. You may already know Fogler from his roles in Fanboys or Balls of Fury. Well now he’s in the director’s seat with what many horror sites are saying is the best horror comedy since Evil Dead 2. I just read about it again on Bloody Digusting and they too are giving it rave reviews.
From what I can tell it sounds like a pretty run of the mill Slasher Flick in premise at least taking place at a creepy motel where a hysterical psycho resides. Not sure what all the hype is really about but I checked out the trailer and it looks as if it could indeed be alot of fun! Believe me I live for a good horror comedy but the best horror comedy since Evil Dead 2? Probably not…
Bad Movie Night! Try It!
Well it’s that time of the year again where we have our sporadic but traditional BAD MOVIE NIGHT! Myself and fellow blogger Sheaehs are gearing up to show some real stinkers once again this Friday. It definately takes the right person to enjoy Bad Movie Night I will say. First you just have to have a sense of humor, second you gotta have some serious patience and third some wit to throw at the screen. Though it’s not neccessary you might also wanna have a six pack to make the experience more bearable if the movie is just a flat out stinkin’ flaming turd! So far we’ve had some good picks that were pretty damn enjoyable! Some features included: She, The Guyver, Dungeonmaster, My Demon Lover, Mac & Me, The Roger Corman version of the Fantastic Four and The Eliminators just to respectively name a few.
This time we’re gearing up with two movies that will hopefully have the audience’s brains melting! My selection thus far is Abraxas: Guardian of the Galaxy, starring Jesse The Body Ventura! Now I have never actually seen this movie but have wanted to for years and just recently acquired it on dvd at the local Goodwill. This movie looks pretty damn bad and I might have to do a sneak peak before hand just to make sure it really delivers the suck. This is what the 1990 movie poster looked liked:
SPOOKIES!! I Need to See It!
One thing I really hate are region 2 DVDS and super expensive VHS tapes! There are a few movies I’m trying to track down but one in particular that I have never seen is a movie called “Spookies”. This amazingly bad looking creature feature came out in 1986 and as a kid I remember the awesome looking cover at the video stores.
Somehow this one slipped through my fingers, I have never seen it and it has never been released on dvd in the USA. I have been checking ebay but the vhs copies are actually kinda pricey. Anyway I may just have to watch it on Youtube (which can kinda suck) as it seems like the only way I am going to actually view this anytime soon. I suppose too since I have been quite under the weather this week that really wouln’t be such a bad idea? Anyway being a huge fan of 80’s horror and an even bigger fan of a good or bad monster movie this one appears to have all the right ingredients for success! Check out the trailer for this and if you have a spare copy let me know!!
MARILYN MANSON LANDS A PLANE; Or, TURBULENCE 3—HEAVY METAL
Prequels, like good taste, are often not required for viewing sequels. DEATH WISH 3? Perfect example. Relishing in Bronson’s unhinged scum-stomping rampages requires no getting-to-know-ya handshake. TURBULENCE 3-HEAVY METAL also requires no teaser. Just, maybe a chaser?
The premise is pure support for the subtitle pun “heavy metal”. Self-proclaimed antichrist rock star Slade Craven has decided to film his final concert en route a pastel-upholstered, pretzel-lobbing airplane (which transcends any definition of metal that I can think of). But not all is rosy in hell. Rutger (BLADE RUNNER) Hauer, with a notably larger face, plays a devil worshipping pilot and believes Slade Craven is the “fake messiah”. He and globby-eyed VJ (top model Monika Schnarre) think Craven’s party should be crashed into a church in Oklahoma. This opens the seventh gateway to hell, unleashing the true satan.
(OK, I’ve seen THE BEYOND and thought this hellgate was in Louisiana?!) Continue reading
