Attack of the Killer Chakas!!

I stumbled upon this movie preview while searching for the trailer for a movie called “Primal” which will be showing soon at the H.P. Lovecraft film festival here in Portland Oregon in October. What I ended up finding was a movie by the same name that looks even better than the one being shown at the festival! Now it seems also that any movie now day that’s got a guy in a furry suit will have to star Lance Henrickson (Abominable, Sasquatch, Sasquatch Mountain)-what gives Lance? Why you so damn obsessed with Bigfoot and Chaka?

Apparently the movie is now going by the name “The Lost Tribe” and will be released October 19th. From the looks of it it seems that Chaka from Land of the Lost just got seriously pissed off check this out!

Norwegian Trolls: Back in a BIG way!!

I just heard about an amazing looking upcoming movie today called The Troll Hunter! It’s a Norwegian mockumentary in the vein of Cloverfield about a group of researchers set off to uncover an age old conspiracy that the government has been withholding the truth on the existence of trolls. Now that’s an original idea I say for a movie! Perhaps it just may be my personal fascination with trolls as you can see by my recent blog post about the NyForm trolls I collect. The funny thing is that so far the images I have seen of the trolls in this movie very closely resemble the NyForm!! So far this movie is looking amazing and the trolls are larger than life.

I know the whole false documentary thing is a little over played nowdays but I think  this movie has enough originality going for it with it’s subject matter so far to make it stand out on it’s own. As you know I’m a sucker for a good monster movie and though this one seems to bare alot in common with Cloverfield and maybe that 90’s movie Twister, these newly released clips have got me pretty dang excited!! Make sure to check out the other clips after the trailer-you’ll get a little more Troll in those…

Get Ready To Dig Up the Hatchet!

If you didn’t already know this Hatchet was one of the best horror flicks of 2006. It got critical acclaim from nearly every horror website (almost a little overboard though if you ask me) and it’s villain Victor Crowley has been compared to such icons as Freddy Krueger  and Michael Myers. Now I’m not sure he deserves that much praise yet but the film’s director Adam Green sure deserves props for casting Friday the 13th’s Kane Hodder(Jason) as the big deformed Hillbilly.

As mush as I dug the first Hatchet I can’t say it had too much in the originality category, it’s story was pretty standard but it had one thing going for it-great old school gore Continue reading

George Romero Blows & So Does Peter Vincent!!

Ok here’s the deal. Last night I finally decided to give George Romero’s “Survival Of The Dead” a chance as it was just released on dvd. You hear that? I finally decided to give the NEW Romero Zombie flick a chance! Ten years ago saying that would have meant I was completely crazy as imagining a new zombie movie from him back then being released would have been a gift from god. I was less than impressed with his last two movie quite honestly and this one seals the deal for me for good. I just don’t give a shit about new Romero movies. I actually got more enjoyment from the latest Direct to dvd Kevin Costner horror movie!

I can tell you honestly I didn’t even finish the movie. I am putting my foot down and refusing to watch anymore zombie  movies with shitty cg bood and gore. Especially one made by George. Believe me this one’s got cg gore galore-it’s effects look like they came straight out of the first Resident Evil game! Continue reading

Bringing back those 80’s Zombies!!

I was pretty pumped to see the brand new Deadworld Classic trade paperback at the comic book shop recently. Wait, you never heard of Deadworld? Well if not I highly suggest that if you are indeed a true zombie fanatic you best be getting your ass down to the local comic book shop immediately to pic up this trade! It’s been called the best zombie comic by critics and at least can be safely called the first.

This cult 80’s comic also features the amazing Vince Locke as the artist for the first 8 issues. Some of the covers for this book are still some of the best zombie images I have ever seen. The crazy thing about it was that Vince was only in his teens when he started illustrating this comic. He went on to illustrate the amazing “A History of Violence” which was later made into  a big time motion picture Continue reading

Pig Hunt Vs. Razorback!!

I just recently finished wathing the newly released direct to dvd Fangoria Frightfest flick  “Pig Hunt”. I must have tried to watch this movie four times before I actually finished it. Not that it was that boring, though maybe it did take a little bit too long to get to the real action, but mainly because I had such a crazy sleep deprived weekend out in Marfa Texas this weekend. Anyway there not too much to say really about Pig Hunt, the newest in the crazed monster wild boar genre, especially when you put it up against it older stepbrother, the amazing Razorback from 1984.

Razorback directed by Russel Mulcahy, who went on later to direct the Highlander films, was a work of art as it followed the story of a crazed Hogzilla in the Australian outback who’s on a killing spree. It’s been most effectively described as Jaws on land. With amazing effects and stunning cinematography this relatively unknown horror flicks remains as one of my fav monster movies of the 80’s. The Descent Part 3 Starring Kevin Costner!?

Ok movie fans I hope you can understand how hard it is sometimes to try and find a damn new release to watch when you’re completely spent on everything that’s been released recently. Sometimes when you’re at the video store you just gotta take a chance on a movie you’re sure is gonna be a dud. That’s where a movie like “The New Daughter” starring Waterworld superstar Kevin Costner comes into the equation. I walked around the video store for about a half hour before finally deciding the newest direct to video thriller starring Kevin Costner was going to be what me and my bottle of wine would sit and probably fall asleep to the other evening.

Yeah my friday night consisted of drying my laundry at the laundromat, drinkin’ wine alone and giving good old Costner another chance. I was curious too, has Costner even been in a theatrically released movie in the past 5 years?? Well anyway it didn’t matter as I was ready to get drunk and watch a timid generic thriller and probably dose off.

Anyway I will say the movie indeed started off like the usual PG-13 thriller, Cos moves to a new home with his son and daughter and not long after she begins to  act strangely after hearing whispers in the new house. It was totally on parin the begining with Dragonfly, which I think was the closest thing Costner has done to a horror movie. However very soon in the film I was pleasantly surprised when outside the girls room, we hear a creepy moan and then we get a glimpse of a monster crawling around on their roof!! Continue reading

The Walking Dead:Beautiful Zombies!

Ok all of my doubts are officially gone about the upcoming television adaptation of The Walking Dead. I just recently saw some of the stills taken for this epic series and it literally blew my mind!! I checked them out at Bloody Disgusting and thought I really needed to put a few of them up here in case anyone had any doubts on just how cool this show is shaping up to be. First off the this image here of Rick Grimes walking on the highway practically gave me the chills upon first sight. Andrew Lincoln who’s playing Rick looks fantastic-don’t you think??

This makes me kinda wonder exactly how this tv series is going to start off. Will they choose to use the 28 Days Later Beginning?? I am crossing my fingers that the answer is no. I think that opening could turn alot of people off from the tv show-to be honest the first time I read the Walking Dead, at least issue one, I simply passed it off as some cheap Image rip-off comic that was cranked out to jump on the zombie bandwagon. Well shortly thereafter I was encouraged to read the whole first trade while at the comic shop. The clerk even promised me that if I gave it another shot and still didn’t like it I could bring the trade back for a full refund. I read the first six isssues and was hooked ever since.

Anyway there are some amazing pictures here as well they posted of the the actual zombies appearing on the show Continue reading

The Walking Dead Officially Filming!

Hell yeah! The news on the street is that Frank Darbont is offically finally filming the first 6 epsiodes of The Walking Dead as I type this! The best comic book series out there is, I guarantee it, going to become the best tv series ever. They couldn’t have found a better director either as Darabont knows how to give the tension the tv series will need to become a masterpiece. The Mist is good proof of what he can do, I mean quite honestly the cgi used in that film was pretty damn pathetic yet the acting and direction was so well done it made me forget how fake everything looked.

I also read on at Bloody Disgusting that Darabont is basing alot of the zombie action on the original Night of the Living Dead. Continue reading

The Frog Brothers Are Officially Back!

Ok I have talked about the Lost Boys sequels here for quite a while and even since the shitty first sequel I have STILL not given up hope that they will finally get the third movie right! With that being said I recently discovered that the third Lost Boys movie trailer has just been put online for all to view.

One good thing you will notice is that the Frog Brothers are indeed back! Supposedly this movie is based more heavily on the recent comic book adventures.

However from the first viewing of the trailer I can’t say I am super impressed with what I see for the third film. Not that I have really ever been convinced that anyone would do a sequel correctly anyway. It seems by this trailer they once again have a bunch of douchey vampires to hunt and kill. It could just be me but I always thought the vamps in the original were pretty cool? But maybe in the 80’s people were thinking Kiefer and crew were a bunch of douches too. I was hoping for a grittier look on the film, but right now it seems so far like the Frog Brothers got dropped into an episode of True Blood, which really isn’t necessarily a bad thing…
