Step Aside Rambo Here Comes Buck Matthews!!!

I just recently acquired a copy of the 80’s action flick “Eye of the Tiger” starring our main overacting king of cinema Gary Busy!! I must say it seems that back in 1986 they were looking for the new Stallone and someone apparently thought that guy was Gary Busey. Good that they did cuz Busey is turbo charged in this action flick as an ex-Vietnam has is hard vet whose wife and kid gets killed by a crazed group of bikers hell bent on complete mayhem where ever they go.

Yes that means when they’re pissed at you they are going to ride their motorcyles straight into your house through the windows! Hell they even smash through solid walls on their bikes! Well to make a long story short just track this down yourself to see Busey as ultra bad ass Buck Matthews as he takes care of some serious business in a way only he can…did I mention that Eye of the Tiger is actually the movie’s theme song? How can you go wrong?!

Yeah the New Devo Rocks….

So yesterday the new Devo album was released and it’s pretty rad. Their first album in 20 years, “Something For Everybody” sounds like they picked up exactly where they left off in the 80’s!

If you still aren’t convinced check out these vids and I’m sure you’ll be picking up the album immediately. Devo has always been a dork’s dream band and they continue to be in 2010!

The Technicolor Nightmare Pt. 2: SUPER XUXA VS. SATAN!!!

Anyone who braves through JIMMY, THE BOY WONDER (the subject of Technicolor Nightmare 1) can theoretically tolerate a little singing and dancing. But where JIMMY is creepy as hell, XUXA is cuter than a sugar turd on a neon birthday cake.

SUPER XUXA VS. SATAN (A. Penido, 1988)

(Or SUPER XUXA CONTRA O BAIXO ASTRAL)

Xuxa Meneghel is a bonafide Brazilian superstar whose fame derives from a series of strange family films in the eighties. Some of my male friends have characterized her as “hot”. This film is the copycat little sister to LABYRINTH.

Super Xuxa, blonde and billowing with butt cleavage in a mini jumper, slathers joy like hair mayo everywhere she goes. Continue reading

SPOOKIES!! I Need to See It!

One thing I really hate are region 2 DVDS and super expensive VHS tapes! There are a few movies I’m trying to track down but one in particular that I have never seen is a movie called “Spookies”. This amazingly bad looking creature feature came out in 1986 and as a kid I remember the awesome looking cover at the video stores.

Somehow this one slipped through my fingers, I have never seen it and it has never been released on dvd in the USA. I have been checking ebay but the vhs copies are actually kinda pricey. Anyway I may just have to watch it on Youtube (which can kinda suck) as it seems like the only way I am going to actually view this anytime soon. I suppose too since I have been quite under the weather this week that really wouln’t be such a bad idea? Anyway being a huge fan of 80’s horror and an even bigger fan of a good or bad monster movie this one appears to have all the right ingredients for success! Check out the trailer for this and if you have a spare copy let me know!!

R.I.P. Corey….

Wow. This morning I was totally shocked when I got up and heard the news that Corey Haim had died just a couple hours ago. It really shouldn’t be that shocking though since all of his drug related problems right? He seemed like one of the most troubled former child actors out there yet still it shocked me as I felt a small part of my childhood die as well.

Corey Haim may have not been taken too seriously over the last 20 years but there was a time when he starred in some of the coolest movies of the 80’s. Obviously The Lost Boys was a great movie that may go down in history as the BEST vampire movie ever made. But Corey also starred in many other awesome movies that still today bring back fond memories of the 80’s and deserve a second, third or fourth veiwing in his honor. Here are a few of my faves some of them seem relatively forgotten by alot of people….

Firstborn was one of Corey’s first movies Continue reading

Hair Loss in the 80’s is Awesome!

I am not sure what made me thing of a few of these commercials from the 80’s but one thing I know is that they’re pretty damn amusing! Check this shit out for some of the ridiculous ways people tried to battle hair loss back then!

Hmm…I’m not so sure no one noticed his full head of hair come back!! Continue reading

I thought I saw Night of the Creeps! I was glad I hadn’t…yet!

For years I had thought I had seen Night of the Creeps from 1986, infact I swore it was a mediocre, at best horror flick from the 80’s. I had seen the cover, T-shirts and have even talked to people though breifly about the movie as if I had seen it. Well when it arrived in the mail for me from my online dvd account, I will admit when reading the  description on the sleeve I was a little hazy on what I really remembered of it. When I started it, it was perfectly was clear. I had NEVER seen this movie before. Really now, would I EVER forget a movie from the 80’s that starts off with an opening  sequence as rad as this?! NO!

The Power Lords Ruled!

I was recently thinking again about all the cool toys I loved as a kid and still do til this day and the awesome Power Lords by Revell jumped into my head! These guys were so cool and aside from being very detailed many of them were also two sided! Meaning you basically had two charcters in one! My favorite of them was Adam Power, shown in the pic below.

Classic Halloween Looney Toons!

When I was a kid I was crazy about Bugs Bunny! To this day many of the cartoons are absolutely hilarious though not the the most PC. Well it’s good to know that I can still watch Bugs Bunny anytime I want thanks to Youtube!

One thing I always loved during Halloween was watching all the cartoons and specials you’d see on tv all month! I came across this amazing Bugs classics today as I combed Youtube for cool halloween specials I used to love as a kid. These cartoons were also featured on a Looney Toons Halloween special back in the 80’s.  It still makes me laugh and brings back a time when all we dreamed of was putting on your costume, trick or treating, eating candy and watching cartoons all night! Sit back and relax because these are halloween classics..

Power…Courage…A Prerequisite for the Spiral Zone!

Growing up there were so many cool cartoons. One that always caught this Dorks attention, and remains one of the lesser followed/known is the Spiral Zone. Airing in 1987-88, Spiral Zone was the Trademarked to Tonka toys and ran for 65 episodes. In the end, the series was a financial flop on the part of Tonka, so it appeared they never wanted the light of day to shine upon this great creation ever again. Until recently, the only episodes available for viewing was a small collection of 6 episodes released on VHS by Tonka. Well one man’s love for the series and his shear tenacity shined through to provide a new 8 disc DVD set collecting all of the original episodes!
