Small Wonder: Television’s Best Kept Secret

After reading today, that an update of Short Circuit is in the works, I started thinking about my favorite 80’s robot from the sitcom, Small Wonder!

An extremely entertaining show full of ugly people that is best enjoyed the second time around. It stars Tiffany Brissette as Vicki the Robot, a little android girl created by her Geppetto-like father for the amusement of the rest of the Lawson family. Vicki sleeps inside a cabinet located in her hormonal ‘brother’ Jamie’s room when she’s not rapidly vaccuming the den or flapping her arms to gain flight for the viewer’s entertainment.

Small Wonder has many bizarre moments, most of which deal with Vicki’s dark side and her programming’s limits when it comes to common human-specific issues. Check out this video of Vicki learning about mortality:

If you’ve never seen this show and want the story before you plunk down hundreds of dollars for high-res bootlegs of the entire series’ run, then keep reading, but WARNING: SPOILERS ABOUND!!!

Van Damme! What a FOOL!!

I’m sure everyone has heard all about “The Expendables” movie already? If not It’s a new movie  that Sylvester Stallone is writing, directing and starring in! I don’t give a shit what anyone says his last RAMBO movie was soooo bad ass! So naturally I am pretty excited for this one. The premise is simple: a team of  mercenaries head off to South America to kick the crap out of a dictator. Sounds like nothin special huh? Well what is so rad about this movie is the cast. Arnold Schwarzeneger, Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lungren, Danny Trejo!! Oh man the only one they are missing is Van Damme!!

It’s finally officially summertime in Portland Oregon! I must say too it is about time!! One thing I won’t be doing in PDX this year is going to “Islands Of Adventure” and riding the Spider-Man ride. Dragged to hell (…well, actually, I paid to go).

So yesterday I went and watched the latest Sam Raimi film, Drag Me To Hell, staring the insanely good-looking Alison Lohman as sexy branch-manager-to-be, Christine Brown. This coupled with the equally attractive opening credits sequence of the film had me ready for that unfortunately-all-too-rare feeling of total satisfaction while leaving a cool theater on a hot day. But no. Actually this piece of shit, fell off about half-way through. Seriously, I was so stoked about it for the first half (the nosebleed being the peak of that excitement) but everything that happened after was like a steady downhill ride into…well…hell.

tony stark get’s drunk with the toxic avenger!?!

I just came across this cool little cartoon series “The Greatest Fan Film of All Time” today and found it to be QUITE amusing! It has alot of  neat appearances  by some pretty awesome characters and best of all it’s pretty damn humorous! I love the fact to that they include Vindicator of Alpha flight into the mix too as well as The Toxic Avenger as he get’s drunk with Tony Stark. Check out the Stan Lee appearance too near the end-classic! I just watched the first two episodes and it’s pretty cool. Now I’m gonna check out the last three to see how this turns out. check out the first two here:

Batman: Ashes To Ashes

Hey Dark Knight fans check out this french fan made film “Batman: Ashes to Ashes”. This is a pretty visually unique mini movie even if it borrows off the Sin City style a bit too much at times. It’s different to hear a Batman story spoken in french but if anything it’s a neat little homage to the worlds most popular vigilante. I picure this as a sort of  ‘What If?’ type storyline with Bill Sienkiewicz  style artwork coming to life. Anyway It’s a neat little film that portrays the Batman universe in a whole new light. Still this doesn’t touch ‘Batman: Dead End’  (yeah I may be the only, one but I thought it was cool when the Alien and Predator show up!). It seems right now is the time to be making fan films! Keep em’ coming!

Here’s the Trailer:

I had trouble getting the full movie to appear here. It can only be seen fully in HD Dailymotion Batman: Ashes to Ashes. CHECK IT OUT!

The Hunt for Gollum!

I know this has got a pretty big buzz going on around it right now but I decided to post it anyway. I still can’t beleive this was made for only $5,000.00! Can that really be? Anyway I have just started watching it about 10 minutes ago and so far it’s pretty rad! So check this out and let me know what you think of it! I’ll let you know my full opinion after I finish! Man, I cannot WAIT for The Hobbit!! But for now this will just have to suffice!!

Great new comic day (Finally)! Review time!!

Today was one of those rare  comic days where I not only find myself overwhelmed by the amount of pulls that week but that I am also totally satisfied by my purchase’s content.

My haul for today (Note: I didn’t see Ghost Rider #35 or that would be reviewed for sure):

Wolverine #72, Wolverine Origins #36, Crossed #5, New Avengers #53 and X-Force #15

It’s new comic day! The new “Crossed” is out…

With the economy in a shambles and money flow down, new comic day can be a little trickier than it used to be. I’ve already dropped alot of titles that just weren’t cutting it anymore and with many comic books now moving their prices up to $3.99 a pop I’ve really become alot more choosy on what I read every week. It seems to me alot of the Marvel stuff I was reading I’ve left at the wayside. Poor stories and barely acceptable artwork runs common in many of their titles. Even our homeboy Bendis seems to have lost his magic touch. There however are a few titles that always seem to make the cut. “The Walking Dead” is a no brainer and probably the BEST comic book out there today. But there’s also another horror comic which is delivering the chills consistantly, Garth Ennis’s “Crossed”.
