Rob Liefeld hopes to “someday undo” Shatterstar’s gayness

Rob Liefeld has now responded to Peter David’s recent development that former New Mutants and X-Force character, Shatterstar, is gay. Shatterstar, as mentioned in a previous Universaldork post, shared the first male-male kiss in mainstream comics recently. Rob Liefeld does not like this one bit, check out what he has to say:

“As the guy that created, designed and wrote his first dozen appearances, Shatterstar is not gay. Sorry. Can’t wait to someday undo this. Seems totally contrived.”

“Your opinion doesn’t change the fact that it sucks and it’s not a positive move in most fans’ eyes. And it’s all well and fine that you don’t respect a creator’s wishes or intent. I’m different like that.”

“Shatterstar is akin to Maximus in gladiator. He’s a warrior, a Spartan, and not a gay one.

“… I have nothing against gays, I have gay family, nuthin’ but love here,” he wrote on his message board. “Ditto gay characters if that’s what their true origins are.

As of this blog, Liefeld has not commented on his feelings towards Peter David’s exclusion of Shatterstar’s gratuitous ponytails or diagonal sword hilts, in his current X-Factor run.

Marvel Comics Brings on First Gay kiss!

It looks like Marvel has done it again! This time however Northstar is no where to be found (aw poor guy!) and instead we have the mutants of X-Factor who are feeling a bit frisky for the summer! Apparently in the latest issue of  X-factor Rictor & Shatterstar share the first same sex kiss in mainstream comics in the presence of Strong Guy who remarks simply “Ok, I didn’t see that coming”. It has been hinted at several times in the series that these two were all about each other but now I think the deal has officially been sealed. I personally can’t beleive it took so damn long! Anyway this is what X-Factors writer Peter David had to say about it:

“I have much more fun tweaking the fans than actually spelling anything out,” David said in an interview with Livewireworld.net. “I certainly don’t think we could say at this point that Rictor is definitively gay. I think we could make the argument that he’s bi, but I don’t see the point at this juncture in spelling it out — not because of any sense of homophobia or anything like that but out of a sense that I think it’s more entertaining and more thought-provoking if we keep it ambiguous.”

Daybreakers! Vampire Farmers!

I am not sure if anyone has seen the movie “Undead” from about five years ago but it was a pretty amazing comedic zombie movie with a neat twist. It was the first movie by the Spierig  brothers and it was a good one. I have been curious what they have been up to since then and was pretty pumped to find out that they do have their second movie on the way and it looks pretty epic. “Daybreakers” stars Ethan Hawke, Sam Neil and Willem Dafoe and is a Vampire flick with a pretty cool premise.

She Hulk on Benny Hill!

When I was a kid, man Benny Hill confused the shit out of me! My grandparents we’re always watching that show and laughing their damn asses off! I guess it had alot of sexual inuendos and Benny Hill himself was always trying touch or seduce the ladies. Still I just don’t find it a bit funny. I guess I am still just a confused little kid. But what I did find was an appearance by the Savage She-Hulk! I thought this was really weird and totally not really funny but nonetheless interesting. Does anyone else remember Benny Hill or am I alone on this one? Does anyone think this stuff is funny? Well either way here’s Benny Hill and She-Hulk side by side….

Michael Jackson teamed up with the Hulk? Well…um Sorta…

Everyone used to have a Michael Jacskon doll! They were the coolest ever in the 80’s. Kids all over were getting Michael mixed in with all of their normal action figures-heck I remember even including Michael on some adventures with my giant Hulk Mego! Now that was a strange team up! Since they were about the same size as Barbie dolls the girls would  buy them and before you knew it Barbie would kick Ken to the curb for good ol’ Jacko. It was a tough year for the Ken doll! They were pretty bad ass action figures and had 3 different style ones you could get. I thought it would be cool to post the commercial for this super classic action figure.

Tim Burton’s Alice in wonderland…..

Well as you may or may not already know Tim Burton is attempting to tackle Alice In Wonderland and guess what? It stars Johnny Depp. Thankfully Burton has decided NOT to cast him as Alice though I am sure that he was considering it at some point! I am really wondering if he is going to be able to pull this one off. I hope to god it’s nothing like his absolutely wretched remake of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” or his completely lame version of the sci-fi classic “Planet Of The Apes”. We’ll see where he takes this one but so far the still look pretty breathtaking …

John Byrne:Best Artist Ever!

So the 1frombeyond’s post got me all fired up yesterday about MY favorite comic book artist of all time, Mr. John Byrne! Ever since I was a kid I loved and knew his artwork. I’d always get pretty pumped when I would see a comic book drawn by him-even at my young age I just knew there was something special about it. Perhaps it was his amazing sense of detail? Either way there are so many things I truely love about his artwork. To me he is one of the All Time Greatest and most influential comic book artists ever. Right up there with Kirby and yes even…um…Liefeld.

Anyway I decided to post some of my favorite pics that I have always loved of his artwork. Whether it’s a cover or interior panel it’s clear he was and is still the master. In a day and age where any and every band is reuniting and Harrison Ford is once again Indiana Jones, I do truely think it’s time that Marvel reunites John Byrne & Chris Claremont  for another run on the X-Men!!

Slight chill in hell today…John Byrne returning to the X-Men?

Over on the message boards of the greatest comic artist/writer ever, John Byrne, talk about Chris Claremont’s new X-Men Forever (a book continuing the 90’s series from issue #3) has brought out “thought excercises” and a few sketches from Byrne on what he would do if he could continue his run from where he left off with X-Men #143. Now, again, this is only just what-if type discussion with zero backing to it at this point, but if fanning these flames helps get something started, then I am all for it. Check out this impromtu sketch by Byrne (damn, that man has still got it)!

Rest In peace Michael….

Wow. So it really is true Michael Jackson is dead. I was at work today with no internet access and got several texts messages when it happened. So now I am home and saw it on Yahoo’s main page. I have always thought for some reason Michael was immortal. He was like some sort of crazy superhero. Well things got pretty crazy for him in his long career. He made some pretty amazing music, the greatest music video of all time and quite possibly some bad decisions of who he should or shouldn’t have been hanging out with. Anyway we’ll see what happens now that the king of pop has passed away. I just can’t see Michael passing away without some sort of bang. I could see people all over the world getting golden tickets or something much like a modern Willy Wonka or maybe him really coming back from the dead as a zombie. Either way let’s for a minute go back to a simpler time with Ol’ Jacko when he had cartoons being made about him and he was just an innocent kid:

“Ghostbusters 3” news!

There’s been ALOT opf hype lately about the return of the Ghostbusters! Especially since the recent arrival of the Ghostbusters video game which all the original ‘Busters voiced. It seems that all of the original cast members are all back for a third feature film with Rick Moranis only to be rumored and I believe fiming is to begin later this year. I am not sure about everyone else but I’m all about some good nostalgia! I really enjoyed the last Indiana Jones film and I get alot of shit for it all the time. I usually welcome good bands reuniting if at the very least just to see what happens and if they can actually pull it off successfully. So naturally I am pretty excited to see what they do with this new Ghostbusters movie.
