Wow. So it really is true Michael Jackson is dead. I was at work today with no internet access and got several texts messages when it happened. So now I am home and saw it on Yahoo’s main page. I have always thought for some reason Michael was immortal. He was like some sort of crazy superhero. Well things got pretty crazy for him in his long career. He made some pretty amazing music, the greatest music video of all time and quite possibly some bad decisions of who he should or shouldn’t have been hanging out with. Anyway we’ll see what happens now that the king of pop has passed away. I just can’t see Michael passing away without some sort of bang. I could see people all over the world getting golden tickets or something much like a modern Willy Wonka or maybe him really coming back from the dead as a zombie. Either way let’s for a minute go back to a simpler time with Ol’ Jacko when he had cartoons being made about him and he was just an innocent kid:

Way to go Mr. Saturday! Even though MJ takes a distant second to His Purple Majesty, the world is one outstanding musical genius short as of today. On a lighter note, I would seriously be so thrilled if he came back as a zombie, even he starts World War Z!

I have never been more shocked by a celebrity death in my life. Don’t get me wrong – I was as creeped out and uncomfortable as anybody at what MJ sort of gradually Dorian Gray-ed himself into over the last 20 years, so what’s surprised me is how genuinely sad I am that his cat is so suddenly, unexpectedly gone. When I was a kid, Michael Jackson was to music what Star Wars was to movies. There was just nothing like him. The guy he was in 1982, ’83, ’84 … the whole world loved that guy. What happened to him? Where did he go? I desperately missed that guy and always hoped that somehow, the wisdom of middle age would set in and MJ would pull his shit together and turn back into that guy again. Regardless of how creepy he became, he was one amazingly fucking talented cat. And like the other esteemed commentator, I actually do prefer Prince now and have way more Prince music than MJ music, but you have to give the man his due. For a while he was the biggest thing going and deservedly so. I keep hoping that the real MJ will return from his circa 1985 alien abduction and pick up where he left off.

Maybe we can all take up a collection and pay Eric Bana to use his red matter to create an alternate timeline where MJ doesn’t go off the rails.
That’s a retcon I want to live in.
