CG Animated Horror Movies-A good idea?

I just ran across this trailer for a possibly upcoming movie called “Blood Trail”. It’s a CG animated trailer for the proposed horror film and so far I can’t decide whether or not this totally cool or really lame. I guess it reminds me a bit of the most recent “Beowolf” animated movie. I watched that as well and to this day am still unsure whether or not I liked it. I can’t decide if seeing these types of films is like watching an extended intro for an XBox game or if it’s something truely unique. I can say that at least the monsters presented in this trailer look natural in their onscreen environment. Many of the horror and sci-fi monsters onscreen today look horrible especially when they are placed in real environments along with real actors. So maybe this is not such a bad idea after all keeping these CG monsters in their CG worlds. It seems from reading all the comments this trailer recieved on it’s youtube page that almost everyone thought this looked amazing. What do you think?

Disney to Buy Marvel Entertainment…? Who da thunk it?

Well, I am sure all of you up to date dorks out there have heard the big buzz…Disney to buy Marvel Comics…for a mere $4 Billion! When I first got the news that it looked like things were official, I have a wave of different emotions. First, joy, think of Marvel with that type of dollar backing and resources. Think of the animated films with the Pixar studios at its disposal. The sky is the limits when you have that deep of pockets…wow think of all the great Marvel movies to come out of this relationship. Marvel motion picture releases could go on forever! Second, fear, what if there are some really weird demands that Disney makes on Marvel. What if they get behind the wheel of the Marvel van and drive it like a drunken 90 year old grandma on roids…crap. Lastly, calm, Disney is a large company with vision. They have seen what is possible with Marvel and I have to rest my weary head on common sense.

What do you think will come of this new found friendship?

They Reached The Final Destination…and the Outlook is Good

Just a warning for readers, if you expect content, character development, good dialog, and interesting plot…then wow, you came to the wrong movie. The Final Destination has none of these aspects. But if you are coming for unbelievable aligning of events that result in violent unpredictable deaths, great gore, and a guaranteed hunks of body flying past the screen every 10-15 minutes, then The Final Destination is your stop.

Rob Zombie to Reboot Again…Re-Blobbed???

Apparently Rob Zombie just can’t get enough of remaking movies. Though I have not seen Halloween II yet, the early word is not good. Now the word on the street is that Mr. Zombo has announced he is slated to direct a remake of the Blob! In an interview with Variety, Rob Zombie indicated, “My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that’s the first thing I want to change, that gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now.”
Personally, I thought all of the blob movies were awesome…even the lesser know little Son Of Blob directed by Larry Hagman in the 70’s. But it does raise a good question, why remake everything?? The 1988 version of the blob was excellent for the time and is still one of my favorite horror movies. So Rob, why not just continue on with that story line and continue the germ warfare gone amuck idea in a Blob returns. I guess Rob Zombie has already begun writing the script and production on the film will begin spring 2010. The budget is expected to be around $30 million. That seem small in the days where James Carmeron just announced that Avatar was going to rack up some $450 million, but lets not forget that District 9 was made of this small token of Hollywood dough.

I am not the only Creep Out There!

Sometimes I think I am the only one with the creepy thoughts. Not that I would act on them or anything, but they give me a good laugh from time to time. Over the last couple years, I have noticed that I am not alone in the universe. There are other creep out there…and there appears to be a large number making commercials. Here is quick collection of newer commercials that just have creepy aspects to them. These may not be the perfect examples of the series of commercials (meaning following a product line or particular brand), but I think you have to agree. If you have some others that you recommend and find the creep factor to be a bit high…please send along!

And now…Enjoy!

Creepozoids Delivered hard!

So the other night I recieved a movie in the mail that was apparently in my Blockbuster  Online (Yeah I am not  a Netflix dude since there is a Blockbuster a couple blocks away) account for probably a year or so. So when “Creepozoids” arrived in the mail I was definately intrigued. Especially since Linnea Quigley was the big name in this one. Yeah, Linnea “Dance on Your Grave in Return of the Living Dead”  Quigley was the actual star power of this flick! I love really shitty horror sci-fi movies. And yes this one delivered the goods! Post apocolytic horror from the 80’s.

Wolverine: Origins #39 – Romulus finally revealed!

It’s been a long road to for Wolverine to finally meet his mega arch nemesis “Romulus” in the flesh but today in Wolverine : Origins #39 it finally happens at least on the last full page of the comic. Yes we finally see Romulus in the flesh! He, well, looks kinda like what should be either Wolverine’s older brother or father mixed with the ultra old rat “Nicodemus” from The Secret of Nimh. He’s about twice Wolverine’s size and has four, most likely adamantium claws.

The Frog, The Dog & The Devil??

So last night I went out for a few drinks with fellow Universal Dorker James Hall and while at the bar, Beulahland here in Portland they were playing some awesome obscure cartoons on the projector as they always do on monday nights. One of the cartoons shown was an amazing short New Zealand film from 1986 called “The Frog, The Dog and The Devil” which I had never seen before.

While they showed this cool cartoon however, they were playing music in the background so you couldn’t hear any of the dialogue. So I figured if I came home and checked it out on Youtube that I’d have a much better understanding of what this film was actually all about. Well, no such luck! Though it was on Youtube (yay!) hearing it with it’s original soundtrack did not make this any easier to understand. Mind you I did have a few at the bar so maybe I’m just missing something? I tried to find more info about it online and didn’t come up with too much more than a blank IMDB page.

Either way this is an amazing cartoon everyone should check out. It obviously has alot to do with drinking, a frog, a dog and the supernatural. Perhaps you can make your own assumptions about what this short really means. Either way if  you are a fan of obscure animation this one is for you….

A closer look at “surrogates”!

I ran across this cool featurette on Youtube about the upcoming movie starring Bruce Willis called “The Surrogates”. It is based on the awesome Sci-Fi comic book of the same name that came out a few years back. So far this adaptation looks pretty promising and true to it’s source material. You can find this comic in trade form so if you have not checked this out yet I highly advise you do so. I think it says alot about our current society and how with all the technology out there today many of us  are not truely living our lives anymore. We rely on our cell phones, video games and the internet as substitutes for real experiences. This movie and comic book pushes that idea alot further along to what our society someday could look like check this out…

Mega vs. Giant vs. me Arse! WTF?

Just when you think the world has see ever large animal/beast film in CG, someone still has to push the limit and make one more. Seriously, who is watching this crap? Oh wait…the Syfy channel needs another new movie of their Saturday night line up, that’s who. Come on, didn’t we learn anything from Anacondas and Pythons, and let’s not forget Anaconda vs. Pythons!
