It’s Saturday Night-time for a good monster movie!

Sometimes I wish I was back in the 80’s when life seemed a little simpler and the horror movies were still fun! There’s just something special about a good 80’s monster movie. There sure are plenty of them too but there’s alot that fall between the cracks and remain forgotten by most. The Unnamable from 1988 is one of those cool ass monster movies of yore that I speak of! Sure it’s cheezy and there’s a bunch of dumb teens that their asses served to them by a wicked female monster! I must say though I think the creature effects are pretty awesome and monster is pretty frightening.

The Worst Movie ever made and released. Period.

I was looking on Youtube for some footage from probably the worst movie I have ever seen ever- “The Black Devil Doll From Hell”! It has been many years since I have seen this steaming pile of suck and from what I understand it’s pretty hard to find a copy now days. I heard about a year ago it was supposed to be released on DVD. However I am not sure it ever made it to disc.

Anyway when I was a kid I used to see the cover of this in the video store and always wondered what it was all about. Well later when I was in high school my friends and I finally rented this movie. I will say I’ll never forget what I saw that day! The Worst Movie EVER. Period.

Finally a recent Fantasy movie that didn’t suck!

Just the other evening I took a gamble on renting a new movie called “Wolf Hound”. On the cover it said “Conan the Barbarian meets Lord of The Rings” and with nothing else that looked vaguely interesting I decided to reluctantly beleive what the cover was telling me. Now I’ve taken many chances on recent fantasy movies and been let down hard! Usually they are wretched movies with bad acting, terrible costumes, horrid CG sets and even worse looking CG monsters! For instance the recent movie “Outlander” had alot of potential until the creature finally shows itself on screen and ruins the entire movie. So I had pretty low expectations of Wolf Hound.

Dancing Demons and Death Metal, A Match Made in Hell!

Nothing tops the sweet sounds of a good heart jolting death metal tune, and it is hard to beat awesome b-horror movie action. So why not combine the two into what should be the ultimate culmination of sight and sound. I guess that is my ideal experience. Not sure if there are any dorks out there that agree…well, I take that back, there have to be a couple. More specifically, how about Brian Trenchard-Smith and his magnificent creation Night of the Demons 2! Do we really know what a “dork” is?!!

A friend of mine recently let me on to some interesting facts about the word “dork”. Apparently it has a few different meanings and hearing about this made me extremely interested in the words origins- especially because this site is named after the word!

First off I learned that apparently there’s a difference between a dork and a nerd. Supposedly a dork is more interesting and likeable than a nerd. Whick makes me wonder if I should have called this site Universalnerd.com?! I have also included some pics that showed up when I searched “dork” images.

Fellow Universal Dork Pete Saturday posted an awesome review and reminder of the classic Creepozoids and I responded with a note about two other plot/theme related classics, The Terror Within and Galaxy of Terror. After some serious thought and internal reflection on my actions…I realize that it is pretty lame to just hang the carrot out in front of our dedicated dork followers. So I wanted to look up the info and give the readers more of a taste of these great features! Both of these have a touch of Roger Corman, just so you know what you are getting yourself into.

Pandorum: A Creature Flick I can get behind!

I am pretty pumped about the upcoming sci-fi horror movie entitled “Pandorum” out Sept. 25th. I love a good sci-fi movie but what I love more is a cool ass monster! So far from this newly released clip of the monster in that movie it looks pretty promising. Not being a fan of CG monsters (sorry Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus) it appears as if in this clip we may have a much more organic feel to the movie’s creature. Check it out:

Silver and Swamp Thing in 3D, Just Rumors?

This dork recently learned that Joel Silver is considering a remake of Swamp Thing…yeah, in 3D. At first I threw up my arms and yelled “No! Not Joel Silver!” But then I sat back and reviewed his list of contributions over the years. After my meditation time with the list I realize there were a lot of good, a lot of bad…and some downright ugly. Here is a list that I know I have seen over the years, and my preference. So was that the Chupacabra??

I was delighted to see when I sat down at my computer tonight that the legendary Chupacabra may have been captured!! I just watched the CNN video and while it’s not quite what I was expecting it’s a pretty weird looking animal. Most likely it is some sort of  hairless coyote or freaky mutated dog. I guess we’ll see what experts have to say about this creature. I was hoping for something a little more bizarre but I guess it’s still a pretty neat little discovery. And it’s cool to just say “They caught the Chupacabra!!”

What’s next?…Robot Fornication?!?!??

I just can’t get over this. We have this level of robotics and technology and those funny guys at the Taiwan University of Science and Technology just make them kiss. I realize that the dudes that pulled this technology together have more brains in one pinky that I do in my whole body. But as their professor/adviser…wouldn’t you just flunk them on the basis of spending money and time on this. This ends up looking like a really fancy version of Chuck E. Cheese in my opinion…but alas…less you nor I shall impede on the progress of technology!
