What’s Next for Wolverine?
I can’t say I didn’t see it coming, today as it was announced that Darren Aronofsky would no longer be directing “The Wolverine”, a stand alone movie that would have had nothing to do (thank god) with the first Wolverine movie. According to Aronofsky the movie would keep him away from his family for far too long-though many are saying it was due to not having enough creative control over the movie. Either way there you have it-finally something exciting was geared up to go down with the character, something dark and dare I say actually intellectually engaging?
Well now that Darren is off to do something more artsy I’m sure we’re gearing up to get more of the same bullshit that we got served with that last film…ughhh. I really had high hopes for a dark Wolverine movie done the way the character deserves. Apparently the show will go on with another director with Jackman still set to play Wolverine.
Now the question is who will they get to take a stab at Wolvie? Your guess is as good as mine, it seems to me it’d better be someone who actually gives a damn and isn’t just trying to serve up another load of shit to force feed the masses- Chris Nolan, Guillermo de Toro hell I’d even take Zack Snyder! But it seems they’re all busy with other projects….um Bryan Singer we need you now more than ever!! in the mean time check this out-it’s actually a lot better than the last Wolverine movie…not bad for a fun fan boy film actually-maybe we should just give up and give this guy the job…
The RED SKULL Revealed!
All I can say is wow! Everybody’s favorite red headed nazi love to hate villain is finally revealed for the upcoming Cap movie! I have to say Hugo Weaving looks fantastic as the Red Skull!
It looks like they finally got the look down perfectly-as you may or may not remember the shitty sweaty red burn victim style look that Scott Paulin as the Red Skull back in 1990 but it was bad! I mean if you are going to call someone the Red Skull at least make sure their damn head looks like a skull right? Check it out!
Now I am hoping for Bucky pics too-as in Bucky in costume that is! Also I haven’t heard much about The Invaders since there was rumor that they were to be appearing in the movie-I hope they are indeed still on board! So far this one could shape up to be the best Marvel flick yet!!
Comic Book Cover of the Week! Mohawks & X-men!
Remember when The X-Men were really bad ass? Back in the 80’s they sure seemed that way-with Storm sporting her mohawk and Wolverine tokin’ on a cig reciting Clint Eastwood lines on their beautifully drawn John Romita Jr. covers. Man those were the days I tell ya! This amazing cover is taken from the “Mutant Massacre” storyline that ripped out the souls of their readers back in the 80’s. The same storyline that took Angel’s wings away from him and introduced Sabretooth as one of the most frightening villains the X-men and Wolverine would then continually face off with. Anyway John Romita Jr. was putting out some of his best artwork ever back then and this cover is a reason why to this day he’s still in the lime light as one of the best in the industry!
The Green Bay Packers Best Kept Secret!!
Ok so I am really not a big sports fan-I never have been but being from Wisconsin there’s certainly some huge hype right now on the Green Bay Packers as they are getting ready to play in the Super Bowl tomorrow!! Now really I don’t care at all normally but there’s one super hero from the Marvel Universe who I guarantee will be watching the game this year-Sasquatch!!
Why you ask? Well there is a little known fact about Walter Langkowski (Sasquatch’s real name) that not many people even remember- He once played for the Green Bay Packers!
Terrible New Photo of Bucky from The Cap Movie!!
Hey folks there’s a pic of Bucky floating around from the upcoming Cap movie and well it looks kinda like a terrible photo! But at least it confirms that Cap’s rad side kick is definitely in the movie! I for one would have loved to have seen the black eye mask- in fact if he doesn’t wear the damn eye mask I’m gonna blow a gasket right there in the theater!! Bucky is not only one of the coolest characters ever but he also becomes the Winter Soldier-who totally kicks ass and then becomes Captain America himself!! So they better not fuck this up!! Now all I need is some confirmation on the Invaders-visual proof-and if Union Jack ain’t part of the team I’m gonna have a serious hemi!!!
Comic Book Cover of the Week! Wen-Di-Go!!
Let’s face it Wendigo is one of the coolest Marvel Comics characters ever and X-men # 140 from 1980 is probably the BEST portrayal of him as being drawn by John Byrne. Not only is the cover to this comic 100% classic but the whole story is just damn awesome. The real story starts in X-men # 139 as Wolverine and Nightcrawler head off to Canada to help none other than Alpha Flight take down the vicious beast. I miss simple storylines like this one which features them all shacking up in a cabin in the woods together. This is one of the classic Claremont/Byrne isssues and may be a bit pricy in it’s original form-but it can be found reprinted several different places-Long live WEN-DI-GO!
The Avengers Movie: No Giant Man??!
This has been bothering me for sometime now, even though I am super pumped at the fact that Joss Whedon is directing The Avengers movie, yet massively bummed that Edward Norton won’t be returning as The Hulk, it all seems to be coming together nicely for one damn epic event! Except for 0ne thing-there has been no mention of Giant Man being featured in the film!
There has been documentation of Whedon saying that Ant-man won’t be in the movie and no mention of Hank Pym being in the flick…so what gives?? Well according to Production Weekly it appears from their listed synopsis that Ant-man and the Wasp may actually get screen time after all. Continue reading
Comic Book Cover of the Week! So Speaks The Champion!!
This particular cover from Marvel Two In One Annual #7 has to be one of my all-time favorites. Mainly because as a kid this particular issue was one of my all time favorite comic books ever. It’s a straight up boxing tournament where earth’s mightiest, Marvel’s heavyweights are all gathered to take on none other than the Champion. An unbeatable blue skinned red haired freako alien boxing fanatic put’s our favorite hero’s into a contest to simply see if any can actually provide a sufficient challenge to him.
You name it Marvel’s strongest are all here Sasquatch, Colossus, The Hulk, The Thing. Yeah they all get their asses served (well technically The Hulk never gets to fight cuz he freaks out in the ring and The Champion refuses to battle a wild monster), all except The Thing who does put up a decent fight. The smackdown though Mr. Grimm takes however is quite brutal and bloody especially for an 80’s comic. It always bummed me out that The Thing lost at the end but he definately gives the Champion a run for his money!
Comic Book Cover of the Week! More Sandman!
Here’s another cover that I totally dig and yeah surprisingly enough it’s got the Sandman on it again-This time crushing the Hulk way back in The Incredible Hulk #113! Back in the day though the Sandman was not exclusively busting Peter Parkers chops but was also going toe to toe with The Hulk pretty regularly. There’s something so undeniably cool about the Sandman and this classic cover shows how rad he was even way back when in his alternate costume! Covers like these make me hope that some day we’re rid of the Red Hulk, A-bomb and the current confusing mess that now floods the pages of the jade giant…
Peter Parker: From Super Nerd to Super Douche Bag!!
Well folks here he is in all of his douchey glory-Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker!! It looks like they’ve got a new look for the new Spider-man and this time it looks like this prick will most likely be hanging outside smokin’ cigs on the football field with Flash Thompson this time around. I gotta say I’m really not so pumped on this revamping of the Spider-man franchise. To me it just feels a little on the cheap side. Either that or maybe Peter Parker is now modeling for J. Crew as his part time high school job? Or maybe he’s singing for some whiny emo band? Whatever the case this is makin’ me miss Tobey in a bad way!
Peter Parker is a nerd not a douche…Hollywood you suck!
