Wolverine loses his monthly title to his son!

Well this June marks Logan’s departure from his own title! Yeah as you may already have heard the Wolverine title we all know and love is becoming “Dark Wolverine”  at issue #75. This title is going to follow the exploits of his asinine son Daken as he impersonates his father donning his brown and tan costume. Well at least someone is going to wear that thing!  “Dark Wolverine” will follow his solo adventures he embarks on when he’s not hobnobbin’ around with the Norman “Green Goblin” Osborn’s Avengers.

it’s 2009, bRING BACK ALPHA FLIGHT ALREADY DAMMIT!

I have been missing a good Alpha Flight title since John Byrne left it in the 1980’s. Yes it’s true I am an Alpha Flight fan and I am proud of  it! I’m STILL pissed off that Bendis killed them off in 2006! I still need to confront him about that (he lives here in Portland Oregon and we see him all over the place) and you know what? Omega Flight just didn’t fill the void. I want the real deal back. Guardian, Sasquatch, Puck, Shaman, Vindicator, Aurora, Northstar, Snowbird and hell even Marrina!

ARCHANGEL! IT’S NICE TO HAVE you BACK man…

At the time the awesome Archangel made his return to Marvel comics i didn’t have a blog. So beleive me I would have posted this sometime ago and I really wanted to see if they were going to keep him around or if  the whole idea was a just part of a short story arc. Well it appears that he is back for real in the pages of the awesome revamped Marvel title X-Force (athough it seems none of the other X-titles acknowledge his return as this character yet). archangel-2 Continue reading

Back Issue Gold: Marvel Two-In-One #96 (ca. 1982)

This week we take a look at one of the most fun comics ever created: Marvel Two-In-One. These usually featured the Thing teaming up with someone he didn’t often get to within the Fantastic Four’s monthly title. In this amazing issue, you not only get a bed-ridden Benjamin Grimm, but pretty much every single hero and villain residing in the marvel universe.

Yes, Ol’ Blue Eyes says his signature “Whatta revoltin’ development” and “Idol a’Millions” lines, but the following tidbits are the real reasons every Marvel fan needs to own this issue:

old school artists that need to come back to comics! Barry Windsor smith!

Hey Barry!! Where the heck have you been lately?!! Unless I am completely uninformed (which could be the case) I am wondering why this amazing artist has been missing from the comic book industry as of late? He is by far one of the BEST comic book artists of all time. I remember him most distinctly for his amazing artwork on the amazing “Weapon X” series in 1988, the hugely underated “Machine Man” limited series of 1984, X-Men #205 which is probably my all time favorite Wolverine one shot solo story and finally his one shot Thing and Human Torch story from Marvel Fanfare #15.

GREATEST comic book themed music videos ever!! Entombed praises Wolverine!!

Wow, this is harder than i thought finding comic book inspired music videos!! I am not going to give up easily though even if Nickelback actually does make the cut. Well anyway here’s an interesting one by the Swedish metal band “Entombed” called “Wolverine Blues”. I think judging by this video it is safe to say they are huge fans!! Check it out and make sure to check back for our official review for “The Watchmen” movie.

HULK VS. Dvd: marvel animated finally gets it right!

Last night i watched the brand spankin’ new “HULK Vs.” dvd last night that i got for my birthday on Monday night and i must say it was exellent. There are two movies on here the first is Hulk Vs. Wolverine which was the by far best of the two. This has easily got to be the coolest superhero cartoon i have ever seen! Finally some decent animation by Marvel since the Ultimate Avengers movies i was really starting to wonder if these new animated features would really be worth the time to view. The answer is YES. In this feature Wolverine and the Hulk go at it with no holds barred. Ultra violent, action packed and bloody (yes Wolverine not only uses his claws to stab people but unlike all 3 live action X-men films they actually bleed), it looks like marvel is taking a step in the right direction here.

Back Issue Gold Presents: Uncanny X-Men #205 (ca. 1986)

I was just thinking about some of the greatest Wolverine stories of all time and this amazing X-Men issue was the first that came to mind. This one came out in 1986 and was a stand alone issue by Chris Claremont & Barry Windsor Smith. This is truely classic Wolverine at it’s best and this one has stuck in my head since i was a kid for many reasons.

First i had never seen an X-Men comic that was this violent i am surprised that is got the comics code approval in 1986. It’s filled with blood and guts. Barry Windsor Smith draws a haunting wintery landscape in which Wolverine is running for his life (which doesn’t happen too often you must admit) and his only hope is Power Pack’s own Katie Powers. They are being pursued by a truely terrifying Lady Deathstrike (her first appearance with her cybernetic body)-the BEST i have ever seen her drawn and how she should have appeared in the X-Men 2 movie.

This raw gritty 80’s comic gem came out before Wolverine even had his own series. It shows him beaten down and vulnerable, which is a rare event in comics now days when he can get his entire body burned dry from his skeleton and still be kickin’. This makes me wonder where Barry Windsor Smith has been all this time? My vote is to get him on the Wolverine title in 2009!! If you are at the comic shop any time soon go comb the back issue section for this! I have heard this stand alone was the inspiration to give Wolvie his own title in 1988.
