Comic Book Cover of the Week: Vintage Snake Eyes!

Here’s a great blast from the past, GI Joe #53, by none other than Mike Zeck! Duh! You know I am starting to think that he might be the best cover artist of the 1980’s as I’ve seen a trend of consistently posting covers by him during that era. He did a ton of super awesome GI Joe Covers back in the day. You know all of us kids back then were obsessed with Snake Eyes! This was a simple, basic but totally bad ass cover that showcased how cool the character was-proving you just can’t ever go wrong with a god damn ninja!!

What’s even more bad ass is the full picture Zeck originally drew-Check it!!

Comic Book Cover of the Week: Superman vs He-Man!! Who’s More MAN?!

Check out this awesome cover way back from 1982, us kids had our wildest fantasies come true with Superman and The Masters of the Universe! As a kid we’d always be pondering important things like “Who’d win in a fight He-Man or Superman?!” Well our wish came true in the form of this comic book! Of course the only reason the two fight is because of Skeletor taking control of Superman’s mind-DUH! It was a damn good fight too! Now if only we could see He-man Fight the Hulk!!

Urban Legend Monster Action Figures!

I stumbled upon this cool new toy line which met it’s Kickstarter goal recently and these action figures look pretty awesome! These monsters are based on urban legends such as The Mothman, The Jersey Devil & Chupacabra.

Each set includes a monster, victim, diorama base and eyewitness account. It’s a pretty neat idea and the they could really go crazy with all of the other creatures out there obviously Bigfoot, Nessie, Montauk Monster, the Wendigo ect ect.

The possibilities are endless! Anyway these cool toys called The Legendary Monsters are available from Nevermore Toys. It looked like they had a Slender Man toy in production as well, but right now that seems like it could be a little to controversial.

Either way check out the Kickstarter page, it has a ton of cool info on it!

Hulk Smash Colorforms!

I loved the hell out of Colorforms as a kid! I had an Incredible Hulk Colorform set and  a Spider-man one too. For being such a simplistic toy it sure kept me busy! I had to post this groovy commercial from the 70’s for a Hulk Colorform set. This was the same one that I had and it brings back some great memories.

colorforms

The best thing was if you had more than one set you could have the Hulk and Spider-man and hell even Superman all meet in the same setting! Check it!

Superman! Wait only 98 cents?!!!

Batman!! Don’t forget The Penguin’s umbrella!!

KRUSHER! Better than Stretch Monster??!

Ok after my plea from my blog earlier today for someone to reveal to me and in a way reunite me with one of my all time favorite toys as a kid I got a speedy response from my friend TJ! It turns out that I was on the right track as I tried to remember the name of one of the coolest late 70’s toy monsters, Krusher!! I was searching for Crusher instead but now have found some rad images of him and a strange Youtube video as well. First off here’s what he looked like on the cover of the box he came in! What a bad ass huh?? You could deflate him and krush him up into a ball-then inflate him usuing his nifty belt!

So I thought maybe there would be a cool old school commercial up on Youtube but instead I first found this weird video of this guy playing with Krusher while Olivia Newton John’s hit song “Physical” plays in the background. Continue reading

Vintage Toy Monsters Are Still The BEST!

I am not sure what made me think about this today but I thought I needed to pay a little respect to one of the coolest toys ever-Stretch X-Ray! He appeared in 1979 as Stretch Armstrong’s most deadly enemy and man was this guy the envy of all kids including myself! He was such a hard ass with his see through “x-ray” body that you could even see all his inner organs!!

This guy was so much of an improvement on the Stretch Octopus character who I always thought was kinda a douche!! I mean check out his lame face they gave him! Some one needs too kick Stretch Octopus’ ass to the moon already!

Now it’s a no brainer obviously that Stretch X-ray was way cool but was he as cool as Stretch Monster though? I don’t think so-but I have a soft spot for any monster who resembles the Incredible Hulk’s arch enemy The Abomination. And what’s up with young Spock playing with Stretch Monster in this pic below? Ummm…AMAZING!

Thinking of Stretch Monster has also led me on a wild goose chase on the internet today desperately trying to figure out the proper name to one of my other favorite monster toys from the 80’s. This particular toy monster was green as well and infact quite similar to Stretch Monster in looks. He was probably almost 2 feet tall, green and actually kinda resembled Whiplash from the Masters of the Universe line of action figures. The cool thing about him was that you could crush him into a ball as he was filled mainly with air and then from what I remember you could inflate him back to his normal size by pulling something on his belt? Does this ring a bell for anyone?? Anyway if anyone knows what I’m talking about please let me know-it’s killing me as I’ve been searching on ebay and You Tube for commercials of this bad ass! Anyway the thought of Stretch X-Ray once again proves that vintage monsters still rule the school!!!

1978: A Great Year For Marvel Model Kits!

As you may have noticed there has been a bit of a lull in the posting here as I am actually back in Wisconsin visiting with my family and getting ready to take a road trip back to Oregon this week. So if I don’t post for the majority of the week it’s because I am driving cross country! Anyway today I went out into the shed at my parents home here in the northwoods and checked out some of my old toys that I have stored here. There are some damn good ones! Old Transformers, tons of Super Powers figures, Secret Wars figures, Inhumanoids, actual Muppets puppets, G.I. Joes, lunch boxes, tons of  He-Man and suprisingly quite a few toys that are for some reason missing!

Anyway I did find two things I was looking for in particular. Two Marvel models from 1978 made by a company called Fandimensions. Continue reading

The Power Lords Ruled!

I was recently thinking again about all the cool toys I loved as a kid and still do til this day and the awesome Power Lords by Revell jumped into my head! These guys were so cool and aside from being very detailed many of them were also two sided! Meaning you basically had two charcters in one! My favorite of them was Adam Power, shown in the pic below.

I’ll never forget how cool the Green machine was!!!

When I was a little kid I always  loved big wheels. But what I wanted even more was The Green Machine!!! I remember all the cool kids had ’em and while I was riding around on my big wheel the other kids were doing circles around me in their Green Machines!! For some reason I was never able to get one. I think they were a little more pricey at the time or maybe it was because of how many cool ass dangerous moves you could pull off on one these puppies that made my parents fear this amazing vehicle! Anyway I ran across the commercial for it and the envious memories flooded back into my mind. Well now that I am older who’s to say you won’t see me finally cruisin’ the streets on my own Green Machine?!

The Hulk & Spider-man busy doing some loggin’!

This commercial is just so rad. The Giant Megos were so damn cool I had both Spider-man and the Hulk! In fact as I am typing this I am looking at my giant Hulk Mego I still own from being a little kid. He is missing his torn white shirt (that’s ok the Hulk never sported a white shirt in the comics anyway) but luckily still has those snazzy purple trousers intact. Anyway this particular toy gave me years of fun and was one of my all time favorites. Seeing this commercial brought back some memories of being a kid back when life was a lot less stressful and filled with magic. I will tell you however that when i played with the Hulk he didn’t walk around helping Spidey carry logs in the woods-no way he was kicking major toy action figure ass!! check this out:
