The Battle for Captain America!!

I read at Deadline Hollywood and Moviehole.net that Joe Johnston has finally got a list of potential contenders for the role of Captain America! First off let me say they are all relatively unknown which could be a good thing if you were a little weary of the option of Leonardo Dicaprio or Will Smith getting the role of Captain America. It seems they must simply be doing this for money costs since it has been stated that the lead will only be paid about $300,000 for this lead role. My thinking is they’ve already given Robert Downey Jr. too much damn money and they know it.

Either way it’s nice to finally know we’re getting closer to actually knowing who will wield the shield! I heard some more well known actors however would be cast as his teamates the Invaders in the movie. So here’s the list of seven contenders-I was nice enough to put their pictures up so we can all debate about who it should and shouldn’t be! Remember we’re looking for a wholesome, apple pie eating, small town, all american guy here..basically kind of a douchebag!

Bendis Involved With Spider-Man Reboot??

It seems there are some rumours flying about legendary Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis apparently getting involved with the new Spider-Man reboot film! This sounds like a step in the right direction right? I must admit I am a HUGE fan of some of Bendis’s work. Particularly his run on Daredevil which was absolutely epic. His Avengers run started out brilliantly but eventually just lost it’s charm and now today I’m not sure just how much I trust his judgement anymore. I better watch my words though here, beacause I see him around town here in Portland, where he resides, regularly riding his bike! That’s not to say he’s not one of the best comic story tellers of current times and I must admit I am quite happy to hear that he’s being involved somehow since he has been writing Ultimate Spider-Man for like a 10 years…

Bendis Tweeted this recently: Continue reading

Dungeon Masters & the Real World…

Finally a movie I can really relate too, The Dungeon Masters! Well, we’ll see I guess, but nonetheless a movie centered around the lives of three Dungeon Masters. I guess this movie is showing what the life is like of those who are completely immersed in the culture and subculture of Dungeons & Dragons. How they deal with the real world and the role their fantasy world plays in their every day living. I know that there are groups of people who play D&D religiously almost every day of the week. People who LARP as well every weekend. I do play D&D though at the moment there is no game we’re playing, I am looking forward to the next adventure. I definately look forward to seeing this movie and seeing how different our lives are or maybe how similar they are. I’m also interested to see the game play of the different Dungeon Masters and what kind of game and environment they produce for their players.

I’d say the groups I have played in have been pretty hardcore. Sometimes we’ve dressed up, we play in the basement by candlelight, Continue reading

More Monsters From Australia!!

I just saw the trailer to a pretty cool looking sci fi monster flick from Australia. The Dark Lurking looks like it’s got a great old school 80’s vibe to it very reminiscent of Aliens. If there’s one thing I am always down for it’s cool moster movie! In The Dark Lurking, a research station one mile beneath the Earth’s surface a horde of ravenous creatures is killing everything they see. 8 survivors are all that remain, running low on ammo, light and hope.

The Invaders Join Captain America Movie Cast!!!

I have been saying for quite a while here that I’ve been hoping for some real concrete news on the Captain America movie and finally some has arrived! This is what I have heard so far. First, as we all guessed it’s been confirmed, according to Ain’t it Cool News that The Red Skull will indeed be the villain (duh) and I assume Hitler will be chumming around with him too. Secondly they’re supposedly they are going to make Cap’s costume a bit more like it was in the earlier days I’m guessing like something between the The Ultimates 40’s Cap and current days non Bucky Cap.

Third and most exciting of the news is that Captain America will be joined on the big screen by The Invaders!! Continue reading

Bill Murray Confirms He’s Dead!!

I just read some great news about Ghostbusters 3! Bill Murray has finally confirmed what many people thought was simply a rumour being spread by Sigouney Weaver. After her recent interview where she apparently spilled the beans on Murray indeed being in the third installment and even more strange appearing in the movie as a ghost! Almost immediately after that she took back those comments and suddenly started saying she’d never even read the script! What a flake huh?! So up until now people have really been wondering if Murray was even going to appear in the third film at all. There have been many times Murray admits that he’s really not all that pumped by the idea of a third flick. Good thing he got over it because I am pumped!

He just now confirmed the “rumours” that Sigourney was spreading. Continue reading

Planet Hulk: much better in the comics….

I am thrilled by the fact that Marvel and DC are releasing old school animation feature films! It’s nice that they have decided to keep that style alive and even try to recreate current comic books arcs into mini movies. The reality to this however is that they really aren’t doing the stories too much justice. Which seems to be the case again with Marvel’s newest animated movie that was released this last tuesday: Planet Hulk.

First off  I must say that aside from the Hulk vs. Wolverine cartoon (which was pretty amazing) most of their animated efforts have been pretty uninspiring. The animation really is not much better than a saturday morning cartoon. Continue reading

Captain America’s starting to get thawed out!

I found a little info today on the upcoming Captain America movie and it’s sounding pretty good. It seems there’s going to be alot of news on it coming since director Joe Jonston is finished with the Wolfman. I honestly just wanna know who the hell is going to play Cap already! But early news on the films direction is pretty awesome and from what I understand the director wants a more Indiana Jones vibe to the movie set in the 1940’s. I am thrilled with that decision! Bring on the adventure and kick some Nazi ass! Here’s what the the director revealed recently via Box Office:

“It’s not going to be a Captain America that you expect. It’s something different. Continue reading

The Last Lovecraft!!

Today I just watched an exclusive tralier to the upcoming horror comedy The Last Lovecraft: The Relic of Cthulu at Bloody Disgusting and it looks awesome! I recently did blog about Tucker and Dale vs. Evil predicting that it would be the best horror comedy of 2010. After seeing this new trailer it looks like Tucker and Dale may have new competition! It looks like an epic horror adventure with some unlikely heroes done the right way. The story itself is pretty clever as well.  Here’s the synopsis that’s been released:

“In the film Jeff, a down on his luck office worker, finds out he is the last living relative of horror novelist H.P. Lovecraft. What he doesn’t know is that Lovecraft’s monsters are real and will soon threaten the very existence of mankind. Jeff and his best friend Charlie are forced to embark on a perilous adventure and they enlist the help of high school acquaintance, Paul, a self proclaimed Lovecraft specialist. Together the three unlikely heroes must protect an alien relic and prevent the release of an ancient evil, known as Cthulhu.”

Creatures in the Clouds?

I just saw this cool trailer for an upcoming horror movie called Altitude. It’s dirtected by Marvel comics vet Kaare Andrews and looks like a pretty exciting little movie.  Check out the synopsis:

“Lost in a mysterious cloudbank, a rookie pilot and her four teenage friends must contend with a freak mechanical failure that first sends their small plane climbing to an impossible height, and then plummeting through endless mist.

After regaining control, the survivors are confronted with a horrifying realization – the very ground beneath them has vanished and a malevolent force lurking in the clouds wants them dead.”
