Star trek: COUNTDOWN the official movie prequel!!

Hey i recently picked up Star Trek: Countdown comic book by IDW Publishing which is the official prequel to the upcoming J.J. Abrams film that has got people amped up so high they’re flying in circles at warp speed 20! I highly recommend checking this book out if you just can’t wait for your Trek fix until May of this year. Get the lowdown on Nero (the films Romulan villian who travels back in time to kill James T. Kirk- yeah good luck Nero on that one!) and Spock who now serves as ambassador for the Romulans. He is trying to warn them of a possible supernova that will threaten their very existence. Against the better wishes of the Romulans Spock is able get a group (Nero’s mining crew) together to go on a rogue mission to try and bring the Romulan isotope Decalithium to Vulcan where is can be processed to form a black hole that could possibly consume the supernova. The best thing about this story is who shows up on the books last page-and i can’t reveal it here. You will just have to check it out for yourself! With that said i hope the movie holds some similar surprises! Great art makes this comic a must have and I can’t wait for issue 2! Go get this ASAP!

BATMAN & Boner from growing pains = AWESOME!!

I am posting this just in case some of you out there have never seen this! It was made by some one at the Stan Winston studio a few years back and features “Boner” from Growing Pains as The Joker! Personally i think this version of the Joker & Batman are the closest we have seen on film to how they look in the comics. I always hoped in the major motion pictures they would have given Batman this classic look instead of the armor like suits he has always donned. Anyway if you have never seen this check it out and be warned of the strange twist the movie takes (i guess it makes sense that this was someone from Stan Winstons’ studio when you see who the guest stars are). If you have seen it already enjoy it again one more time…

Alan Moore is fucking insane. But it’s okay.

Check out this bizarre clip fingernails of our favorite hermit beard comic author beard, reading watchmen fingernails as his beard character Rorschach nails:

I’m kind of surprised by his soundtrack! I mean, I didn’t think Moore would go for such a (great but) played song. I always imagined  he just sat around his castle listening to his own music. I guess this is what he’s doing with his time while waiting for the Watchmen movie to release, you know, so he can not watch it.

Back Issue Gold Presents: Rock ‘N’ Roll Comics #21 PRINCE

Two of things I love most in life are comic books and Prince. Amazingly, Revolutionary Comics Co. had the foresight to devote an issue to the greatest tiny man of all time: Prince Rogers Nelson! Check out the front and back covers

Red Fang learns the hard way, don’t F*** with LARPers

Portland Oregon’s very own Red Fang have learned the hard way that it is very difficult to beat LARPers (Live Action Roll Players) at their own game, even if you prepare by making some sweet armor out of beer cans.  Check out their schenanagans.

This awesome video was directed by Whitey McConnaughy, who seems to always do great work.

Amazing Comic Haul from Goodwill Today!

Today was a day unlike any other.

For the last year or so, I have been determined to collect and read the entire West Coast Avengers run. Well, a stop at the Goodwill yielded about 30% of it.

That’s right, I found issues #7-45 (save the issues that I already had, like John Byrne’s Vision Quest Arc) along with a dozen other gems such as the complete run of 1986-87’s Comet Man, Some Black Widow goodness courtesy of Marvel Fanfare, some X-Tinction Agenda issues as well as a couple of Typhoid Mary’s early Daredevil appearances!!

This store (off McLaughlin just outside of Portland), had 3 long boxes full of 1980’s goodness. Many interesting DC titles (that confuse me but are probably great reads) and even a copy of The Dark Night Returns.

At .49 a copy, I felt like I was robbing them, I’ve had a smile on my face all day since!

Chris Dane Owens and his blue eyes star in Awesome Music Video.

Wow, recently I was turned on to a great music video by some guy I had never heard of named “Chris Dane Owens“.  A friend of mine sent me this video as a joke and I have to say it is pretty funny.  But then I took a closer look at it and all of a sudden I was really into it and borderline obsessing over it.  I watched the video over and over.  The catchy faux funk baseline over some epic, drawn out guitar lines and vocal melodies had me hooked.  But what had me more hooked was the story-line, A FANTASY ADVENTURE starring himself, a lady, a Dr. Doom type villain, several groups of 3 hot ladies, his knife throwing buddy, another buddy, an older buddy, and a fleet of fire welding dragons.  Take a look for yourself.

This video now gets me all stoked like watching Lord of the Rings.  But what can I say, I’m a sucker for fantasy adventure stories, especially when they involve medieval funk grooves.  Who is this “Chris Dane Owens”?  I did a little research and this is what I found out. Continue reading

Mister Saturday’s TOP 10 HORROR Flicks of 2008!

Hey it’s time to look back on all of the horror films i saw in theatres or released on dvd in 2008 and decide which ones were the coolest! Keep in mind i have not yet seen “Let the Right One In” yet or “Splinter” which i hear were pretty rad-so it’s very possible those could enter the top 10. So let’s get down to business!!!

10. The Cottage: This was a surprisingly great horror comedy starring Andy Serkis (LOTR’s Golem). A cool gory fast paced tale of 2 criminals buffoons who kidnap the daughter of an underground kingpin holding her for ransom in a cottage in the farmland. What ensues is a comedic bloodbath when they realize they’re tresspassing on a hulking mutated rednecks land. Fans of “Shaun of the Dead” and “Severance” will be all over this one. A fun gory romp!
