A Date in Middle Earth to Look Forward Too!
So now we all finally have a date to look forward to for the The Hobbit, the highly anticipated sequel (DUH!) to The Lord of the Rings trilogy! Ever since I heard that Guillermo del Toro had been chosen as the director for this 2 part film I have been almost more almost more excited about it it than I was originally about Peter Jackson! Originally the Hobbit was supposed to hit theaters in 2011 but now the new word is that we’re looking at a December 2012 release date. That’s a LONG time to wait isn’t it? What gives? And how come we still have no one attached to play Bilbo Baggins yet??!
At least we know that Ian Mckellan will be reprising his role as Gandalf and rumours are suggesting that filming will begin in June. I don’t want to the rush the guys but it’s going to be a long two years!! Nothing though compared to the amount of time Peter Jackson took to make The Lord of the Rings. With both Jackson and del Toro together behind these two films it’s bound to be worth the wait!

Dungeon Masters & the Real World…
Finally a movie I can really relate too, The Dungeon Masters! Well, we’ll see I guess, but nonetheless a movie centered around the lives of three Dungeon Masters. I guess this movie is showing what the life is like of those who are completely immersed in the culture and subculture of Dungeons & Dragons. How they deal with the real world and the role their fantasy world plays in their every day living. I know that there are groups of people who play D&D religiously almost every day of the week. People who LARP as well every weekend. I do play D&D though at the moment there is no game we’re playing, I am looking forward to the next adventure. I definately look forward to seeing this movie and seeing how different our lives are or maybe how similar they are. I’m also interested to see the game play of the different Dungeon Masters and what kind of game and environment they produce for their players.

A fair Trade: D&D for Power Metal!
Tonight is usually the night we normally play D&D but instead this evening we’re all going to see some power metal instead! In “The Dungeon” which is what we call our basement area where we geek out and role dice every sunday we listen to stuff like Mortiis, Midnight Syndicate and other various movie scores while we play. But during the game when a battle ensues the music quickly changes to various fantasy power metal mixes that I have made exclusively for D&D. Nothing get’s a battle moving more than a little Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden or Elvenking!
Epic D&D with universal dork blogger!!
Hey I had this video up on my myspace page for quite sometime but I thought I would post it here too. I play D&D every Sunday evening and right now I’m currently the DM. This game however I was just a player character. Sometimes we dress up for our games, play by candle light in the basment, all have special voices and we have alot of fun! The Hunt for Gollum!
I know this has got a pretty big buzz going on around it right now but I decided to post it anyway. I still can’t beleive this was made for only $5,000.00! Can that really be? Anyway I have just started watching it about 10 minutes ago and so far it’s pretty rad! So check this out and let me know what you think of it! I’ll let you know my full opinion after I finish! Man, I cannot WAIT for The Hobbit!! But for now this will just have to suffice!!
World’s Greatest fantasy music videos! Blind guardian in a video game!!!
Yeah Blind Guardian is one of the BEST metal bands EVER. If you don’t already know who this rad band is you need to go out and buy their stuff! They’ve been around since the 80’s and have only gotten better in time!! Well they appeared at the 2008 Comic Con to promote the new video game “Sacred 2”. Their music is featured in the video game and the band themselves are also. Anyway I though this was a cool video trailer for the game and most of all thought the new song they wrote for the game was pretty amazing as well….
Tom Hanks: The Worlds First LARPER!!!
You’d never have guessed that the world’s first Live Action Role Player was Tom Hanks huh? Well it’s true in this 1981 movie Tom Hanks and friends are all amped up while playing a role playing game called “Mazes & Monsters” (sound like any other famous RPG) and decided to take it to the next level by dressing up and taking it into some dangerous caves near campus! What a great idea-I’d be totally down too! Unfortunately things go bad when Hanks starts to become utterly obsessed with the game, seeing monsters(RAD!) and thinking he’s his RPG character in real life(beleive me this is not a bad thing). Man I totally understand, It happens to me all the time!! Check out a few of these scenes from this cult classic that has been called the “Reefer Madness” of D&D!!

Have you seen the 1985 movie “DUNGEONMASTER”? No? What is wrong with you!!! We watched it at the first Bad Movie Night we had and um….it’s probably the coolest movie ever made. Check out this scene where our hero goes to metal world for one of his 7 deadly challenges and battles WASP! oH yeah and Richard Moll from NIGHT COURT is the Devil!! how rad is that?!! Go hunt this flick down now!!! You will not regret it!!

Check out this comic strip called Dark Dungeons ©1984 by Jack T. Chick LLC. These were passed out and used as a tool for equipping christians for evangelism in the 1980’s. I went to Catholic church but have somehow fell under the powers of the devil by my weekly D&D playing!!! Good thing i found these comics by Jack T. Chick online and got set straight-sorry guys D&D is officially cancelled-check this out!
