Fastner & Larsen’s Classic 1980’s Comic Book Paintings!!

As a kid I loved the Fastner & Larsen superhero paintings they did back in the 1980’s which were often sold as portfolios! These two started out drawing fantasy & scantily clad sci fi pin up girls and muscle bound dudes, I’d imagine that Frank Cho must have had mega inspiration from these two. Eventually they were approached by Marvel to do some work and boy did they ever! As a kid I had these portfolios and they still today remain some of my favorite pics of some of my favorite superheroes. Today these guys still do amazing art check out their website, and check out some of these classic comic book paintings from yesteryear! Stuff like this is why I love comic books today sooo much!

The Incredible Hulk’s Vintage Commercial Career!

Did I mention before how much I love The Incredible Hulk?

Well it all started back in my childhood and I had to take a quick moment here to post a few new old vintage Hulk commercials from back in the day! The first is a cool one featuring Lou Ferrigno and the second is just a great late 1970’s Hulk “Rage Cage” Commercial! Enjoy!!

Rage Cage!!

Lastly the amazing Incredible Hulk Sega Genesis game from 1994-I forgot how RAD this one was-I need to play this again ASAP!!

The Grinch’s Halloween Special Prequel?!

Call me severely uninformed, but I just discovered today that Dr.  The Suess’ The Grinch had a holiday special before the classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”! Yep-The Grinch was grumpy as hell in the 1977 prequel “Halloween is Grinch Night”. Maybe this is common knowledge for most people but I had no idea the Grinch had a Halloween special-that won an Emmy!

The Grinch is once again a total dick to the people of Whoville and this gives us all a little more insight to his back story-so if you, like me, never knew the Grinch first “celebrated” Halloween then feast your eyes on this cool little forgotten cartoon….I still can’t believe I never saw this one!

Video Tonfa Takes on The Deadbeat at Dawn!

Last Friday evening I had the pleasure of hosting a little event at my vintage clothing shop here in Portland, Oregon called Hollywood Babylon. We showed two movies and hung some awesome art by Tim Goodyear, who’s “Video Tonfa” work can be seen in Pork Magazine regularly. Goodyear does movie reviews, but not only that, he gives his own interpretation of the movies VHS /dvd box art and reviews the film where the movie’s synopsis normally appears. It’s a rad way to read a review and it’s also pretty damn fun to look at! So when we decided to have him grace the store walls with his art he also gave us an event poster featuring his interpretation of one of the movies we watched, Deadbeat at Dawn, which I have raved about here not too long ago.  The movie got a great new look on the poster, and if this flick ever gets released again on dvd I hope they decide to use Goodyear’s work for the box art! Check it

Also here’s a great interview with Goodyear via GRIDLords and a close up of one of his reviews…

Rom: Spaceknight – Best Action Figure Ever?!

Whoa just ran across this awesome vintage Rom: Spaceknight action figure commercial! Rom was kinda the shit back in the 1980’s and he was first and foremost a toy before actually being a Marvel Comic book character.

ROM

Somehow though it seems his staying power wasn’t too strong as we really don’t hear too much about the guy anymore. Still viewing this rad old school commercial makes me wanna scope out Ebay and get myself one of these! As a kid I always wanted one, and from this commercial i am sure you can see why he was the talk of the block for kids-check it!

Vintage STAR TREK Commercials: Finger Lickin’ Good?!

You can pretty much use Star Trek to sell anything! Simply because of how god damn awesome it is!

As proof of this today I am offering up a few old school Star Trek related TV commercials from way back when-check these out!

First Star Trek and KFC! Wow a good Kirk look-a-like huh? But is that the real Scotty?!!

Next Star Trek and ATARI 2600! Wow the game looks so advanced huh? No wonder they need the special controller adaptor! That’s some advanced shit!!

The cutest Western Airlines commercial! Shatner & Nimoy on vacation! How amazing would it be to find out you’ve been seated next two these two jokers!! Truly Priceless!!!

Lastly a quick Hallmark commercial-hell even Spock needs to go Christmas Shoppin’!

Shatner’s 1970’s Supermarket Commercial Career!

Check out this super old skool tv commercial from the 1970’s featuring William Shatner! Loblaw’s is a supermarket chain in Canada and it seems that back in the 70’s Bill was up for just about everything after Star Trek fizzled out.

Shatner being Canadian himself must’ve shopped there quite a bit as he ended up doing several commercials for them! Who would’ve known huh?

Send Your Dirty Laundry to Vulcan?!!

Who would have ever know that the answers to clean clothing here on Earth was solved by Vulcans?!! Don’t believe me? Need proof?! Well take a look here at this old school Cheer commercial from 1969.

Here you will see how one lone housewife had quite an epic experience one day while pondering one of life’s greatest wonders…..Laundry!!

These Ass Kicking Jeans Must Be Mine!

I have been on a hunt for new pants for myself for quite a while-and now I know 100% now that I have to track down a pair of these awesome Chuck Norris Action Slacks!! I’m a big fan of vintage clothing in fact I own a vintage clothing store here in Portland Oregon called “Hollywood Babylon”- well how’s that for shameless self promotion? I just began today officially searching for a vintage pair of these for myself because well who doesn’t want to kick ass like ol’ Chuck?

I remember seeing ads for these pants back in the 80’s when I was a kid and I always thought they were funny but today I guess it really dawned on me that they are actually super fly! Look closely at the crotch as they have a super stretchy area so that you can kick really high and not split your pants. Well I tell you only Norris could come up with something like these for the public. I bet too that it hurt like hell back then to be kicked in the face with those bad ass cowboy boots he’s always wearing too! So yeah I will find a pair-I will keep you posted!!

The 1980 Incredible Hulk Portfolio Must be Mine Again!

Way back in 1980 I had the coolest pictures of the Hulk ever! They came in the Marvel Super Hero Portfolio collection and one of the collections was based entirely on ol’ jade jaws himself!! I just ran across these on Ebay while searching for vintage super hero t-shirts and stuff and it was like a blast back in time!

So naturally it’s bidding time and actually they are not pricey at all. I thought I’d share these amazing pics here for anyone who’s never seen these awesome painting by Fastner & Larsen who also did an amazing Spider-Mna portfolio as well! Check these bad boys out!
