Comic Cover of the Week: Bill Sienkiewicz Rules Marvel’s SOLOMON KANE Limited Series?!
I never knew that this comic book series was ever a thing way back in 1985-but after seeing this of course incredible cover from master class artist Bill Sienkiewicz I’m ready to track down this limited series and give it a whirl! It’s covers like these that sell a series and Bill’s ALWAYS on top of his game. That being said all six covers for this series are actually pretty incredible, but I guess it’s what’s on the inside that counts though right? We’ll see. In this case though I’m all in to check it out and from thew looks of it-it’s a cheap one to acquire!
Comic Cover of the Week: CHRISTMAS With MAN-THING?!
‘Tis the season to be jolly even for the Man-Thing apparently?! Yes! Even the smushy green monster has got the holiday spirit as the festive cover from 1998 clearly shows! I’ve always really liked Man-Thing he’s really a bizarre anti-hero and here he’s decided to don the Santa Claus duds for the cover, Liam Sharp kinda gives him a more sexy furry looks than I normally like but regardless it’s still pretty sweet Holiday themed cover from the late 1990s!
Comic Cover of the Week: Moonstone Messes Up The Jade Giant!
Moonstone’s one of my favorite female baddie’s and has been one of the coolest of The Incredible Hulk’s rogue gallery since way in 1978, when she first appeared in this totally rad issue! This particular comic was one of my favorites as a kid-and the fact that she could go toe to toe with the Jade Giant solidified her in my book as one of the most power female villains in Marvel comics! I always wanted to see her take on She-Hulk because as a kid it was rare to see female villains that could mess of the Hulk. This is such a great cover too, showcasing why Herb Trimpe and Bob Mcleod could get the job done for a smashing cover that is reminiscent of the powerful “Sal Buscema punch”-such a classic cover, it really makes me miss a good old fashioned Hulk adventure!!
Comic Cover of the Week: Banner’s Haunting Hulking 1980’s Fever Dream!
One of the most unique comic book covers the Jade Giant ever received has got to be from The Incredible Hulk #294, way back in April of 1983. I love the covers from this period, as you never quite knew what to expect, sometimes covers would be hand painted, or sometimes even photographs. It was all quite unpredictable in the best way possible. Today the slick artwork done completely via computer can be initially quite stunning but can also have a sterile feel to it and the weird glossy “paper(?)” they’re printed on doesn’t help give them any extra charm. Issue #294 though is what comic book covers are all about, painted brilliantly by Ken Steacy. This issue also features the wild moment, of Bruce transforming into The Incredible Hulk COMPLETELY naked while lathering up in the shower! Check that out right HERE! Comic Book Cover of the Week 1985: Before WandaVision!
WandaVision seems to be the talk of the town, whether you like it or not it’s Disney +’s MCU big kick off series and from what I’ve heard it’s quite daring in it’s storytelling. I still haven’t checked it out, something about it just hasn’t pulled me into setting aside time to give it a try. Maybe when all the episodes are out I’ll dive in. But before all this hype of WandaVision we had this nifty 12 part limed series with the famous superhero couple released waaay back in 1985. Maybe I’ll give this one a spin again before I dave into more Disney + schlock, I’ve got to admit the first issue sure did look promising from the cover alone don’t you think? If this was what had been marketed for the MCU series I’d be 100% down from the very damn start!
Comic Cover of the Week: Elvira’s Creepy Christmas Adventures!!!
Who knew everyone’s favorite Mistress of the Dark, Elvira was also down with the Christmas holiday cheer?! Yeah! Well back in 1987 DC comics indeed released her special holiday adventures, ‘Elvira’s Haunted Holidays’ part of her “House of Mystery” series. This however is not only a collection of spooky X-mas tales but they also feature the iconic bombshell as the main character of the creepy adventures! This classic cover, drawn by José Luis García-López kicks off the month here with some true Christmas spirit of this largely forgotten one shot comic book!
Best of VHS Box Art: ‘Creepers’ Still Makes My Skin Crawl!!!
It’s always great when you find a movie with cover art from the 1980’s that is just as awesome as the actual movie, it really doesn’t happen all that often. But today I wanted to showcase some vhs box art that’s just as killer as the actual movie. I watched for the first time Dario Argento’s ‘Phenomena’, the 116 minute cut the other night and it still stands as my fave Argento movie. Previously I’d only seen the heavily edited USA cut of the movie called ‘Creepers’ on VHS. One I distinctly remember back in the 80’s oogling at in the video stores as a kid like some forbidden fruit! It’s such a great piece of horror art and it inspired me to post an image of it today! Totally Metal too!!!! Iron Maiden & Motorhead! whoohoo!
Comic Cover of the Week: Bill Sienkiewicz’s RETURN OF THE JEDI!!
One of the true all time greats as far as comic book artists go is most definitely Bill Sienkiewicz! His style is like none other and as far as comic book covers go, he is one the BEST! Anytime you’d get a cover from Bill you knew you were in for something several notches above what was normally brought to the table. Here are 5 covers he did for the Marvel 1983 adaptation of Return of the Jedi, a bit different from his normal output in being they’re much more simplistic than what he’s normally known for. However his final painting for the trade paperback (the last image) showcases his epic classic style, this all brings me back to a time when Star Wars had limitless potential. Comic Cover of the Week: Vintage VENOM!
Since the second trailer for the Venom movie dropped today, which actually looks pretty damn cool in my opinion, I figured I’d post a cool old skool comic cover of everyone’s fave wicked symbiote way back from 1994. It’s a rad cover and also features Morbius, The Living Vampire teaming up with Venom to kick the weirdo Demogoblin’s ass. Bob Mcleod did the art for this one and as far as old Venom covers it’s one of the best. I’m guessing there’s a big possibility as well that in the movies we may see Jared Leto who’s going to portray Morbius eventually meet up with Venom. Whoopee!

Comic Cover of the Week: Classic ‘Sienkiewicz’ Star Wars!
Here’s an incredible classic Star Wars cover way back from 1984 that’s one of my favorites of the retro Marvel series. One quick look and it’s evident why it’s so damn epic, Bill Sienkiewicz and Cynthia Martin were responsible for issue #92’s unforgettable confrontation. In all the divisiveness amongst fans in the current landscape of Star Wars it’s nice to go back to an era where fans for the most part loved just the movies! This cover is making me seriously considering revisiting those classic comic book adventures!
