Comic Book Cover of the Week! Wen-Di-Go!!

Let’s face it Wendigo is one of the coolest Marvel Comics characters ever and X-men # 140 from 1980 is probably the BEST portrayal of him as being drawn by John Byrne. Not only is the cover to this comic 100% classic but the whole story is just damn awesome. The real story starts in X-men # 139 as Wolverine and Nightcrawler head off to Canada to help none other than Alpha Flight take down the vicious beast. I miss simple storylines like this one which features them all shacking up in a cabin in the woods together. This is one of the classic Claremont/Byrne isssues and may be a bit pricy in it’s original form-but it can be found reprinted several different places-Long live WEN-DI-GO!

There Will Be NO Wolverine Movie Sequel!! Yay!

Wow now here’s some good news out there for all of you people who actually love the character, Wolverine. It has been confirmed by Darren Aronofsky that the upcoming Wolverine movie he is directing will NOT be a sequel to that god awful pile of  flaming horseshit we were delivered a couple years back entitled X-men Origins: Wolverine he tells Hitfix. Instead this movie will be an entity entirely of its own.

“The film that he’s directing is officially called “The Wolverine,” Continue reading

Colossus get’s wasted!

One of my all time favorite X-men stories has got to be in issue #183 entitled “He’ll never make me cry” from 1984! The X-men aren’t in outerspace or saving humankind from Magneto’s twisted plans. This is the type of story I wish I would see more of these days in comic books. A day in the life type of story where you really get to know the characters. What it would be like if you could call up Wolverine and have him meet you at your local watering hole and drink yourselves silly together. This issue’s plot is simple Colossus, whose returned with the X-men from outerspace, dumps Kitty Pryde pretty harshly as he explains to her how he fell in love with another woman when on the most recent adventure with the team.

John Byrne:Best Artist Ever!

So the 1frombeyond’s post got me all fired up yesterday about MY favorite comic book artist of all time, Mr. John Byrne! Ever since I was a kid I loved and knew his artwork. I’d always get pretty pumped when I would see a comic book drawn by him-even at my young age I just knew there was something special about it. Perhaps it was his amazing sense of detail? Either way there are so many things I truely love about his artwork. To me he is one of the All Time Greatest and most influential comic book artists ever. Right up there with Kirby and yes even…um…Liefeld.

Anyway I decided to post some of my favorite pics that I have always loved of his artwork. Whether it’s a cover or interior panel it’s clear he was and is still the master. In a day and age where any and every band is reuniting and Harrison Ford is once again Indiana Jones, I do truely think it’s time that Marvel reunites John Byrne & Chris Claremont  for another run on the X-Men!!

Slight chill in hell today…John Byrne returning to the X-Men?

Over on the message boards of the greatest comic artist/writer ever, John Byrne, talk about Chris Claremont’s new X-Men Forever (a book continuing the 90’s series from issue #3) has brought out “thought excercises” and a few sketches from Byrne on what he would do if he could continue his run from where he left off with X-Men #143. Now, again, this is only just what-if type discussion with zero backing to it at this point, but if fanning these flames helps get something started, then I am all for it. Check out this impromtu sketch by Byrne (damn, that man has still got it)!
