Michael Jackson teamed up with the Hulk? Well…um Sorta…

Everyone used to have a Michael Jacskon doll! They were the coolest ever in the 80’s. Kids all over were getting Michael mixed in with all of their normal action figures-heck I remember even including Michael on some adventures with my giant Hulk Mego! Now that was a strange team up! Since they were about the same size as Barbie dolls the girls would  buy them and before you knew it Barbie would kick Ken to the curb for good ol’ Jacko. It was a tough year for the Ken doll! They were pretty bad ass action figures and had 3 different style ones you could get. I thought it would be cool to post the commercial for this super classic action figure.

THUNDERCATS MOVIE?!!

The Thundercats were probably one of the coolest cartoons of the 1980’s hands down! For one it had amazing animation (especially for being a regular after school cartoon) which seeemed to be a step above the rest. Secondly it also produced some pretty amazing action figures and a Marvel comic book too! The creators of the Thundercats also made a couple other less popular cartoon series that were equally great, The Silver Hawks and The Tiger Sharks(check them both out sometime if you haven’t already).

So I heard a couple years back they were supposed to make a movie of the Thundercats, so naturally I searched on Youtube for any teasers or random info. What I found instead was a pretty impressive fan made trailer! The scenes are obviously strung together from different movies and someone has oviously used some CG to make Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman and Vin Diesel look exactly like the Thundercats. Hey I just wanted to share this for anyThundercats fans out there-it looks like a live action Thundercats movie could be pretty darn cool. From what I understand however it seems the movie that is currently in production will be an all CG cartoon version slated for release sometime in 2010.

he’s a regular pussy cat!!

Holy crap was Fonzie the coolest dude ever or what!! Check out this amazing 1977 commercial for the Mego line Happy Days action figures for “Fonzie’s Garage”! I had no idea they made action figures for Happy Days it makes me wonder what else they did back then? Well anyway all I have to say about this is “Aaaayyyyyy!”

I’ll see your Super Powers and raise you Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars

Forget what you’re hearing about Kenner’s Super Powers line being the caviar of 80’s super hero toys. The truest were Mattel’s Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars action figures. These amazing toys were an outlet for (all hail) Jim Shooter to sell us Marvel Comic’s mega-event Secret Wars, though strangely enough, there were no Beyonder or Molecule Man figures produced. Even stranger is the fact that Marvel authorized figures of Constrictor, Hobgoblin and Baron Zemo: all of whom had nothing to do with Secret Wars!!

Not only are Marvel characters better than DC’s, but Secret Wars was one of the greatest ‘events’ of the 1980’s (only to be outdone by Secret Wars II of course) and totally kicked DC’s Crisis on Infinite Crisis’ event during that time. Plus Secret Wars figures all came with secret-decoder lenticular shields! Check out some of the awesome commercial and several of the great characters created for this line if you need further proof:

The Super Powers Collection withstands the test of time!

Anyone remember DC’s Super Powers Collection action figures from the 80’s? They were probably the best action figures ever! They today still look amazing and there were soooo many of them. They made figures of some pretty obscure characters too. My favorites were The Red Tornado, the Joker, Penguin, Brainiac and the Flash but they were all pretty amazing really.

The Hulk & Spider-man busy doing some loggin’!

This commercial is just so rad. The Giant Megos were so damn cool I had both Spider-man and the Hulk! In fact as I am typing this I am looking at my giant Hulk Mego I still own from being a little kid. He is missing his torn white shirt (that’s ok the Hulk never sported a white shirt in the comics anyway) but luckily still has those snazzy purple trousers intact. Anyway this particular toy gave me years of fun and was one of my all time favorites. Seeing this commercial brought back some memories of being a kid back when life was a lot less stressful and filled with magic. I will tell you however that when i played with the Hulk he didn’t walk around helping Spidey carry logs in the woods-no way he was kicking major toy action figure ass!! check this out:

Don’t ever forget about the SECTAURS!!

1984 was a good year cuz the Sectaurs RULED the toy scene! As a kid i just could not get enough of these guys. They were some of the coolest looking action figures around and had huge insects they rode around on. Plus they had a rad cartoon and Marvel even put out a nifty comic book too about these guys! If you had “The Hive”, which was pretty much a giant insectoid castle as a kid you were pretty much the talk of the neighborhood and if you were allowed to use the hand puppet spider to attack the other Sectaurs it was truely a special honor. Anyway if you never heard of these guys check out this comercial-it seems to me it was pretty much the BEST time to be a kid playing with toys in the 80’s….

that great black super hero!

Hey what i wouldn’t give to have all these Megos! Check out out the little blurbs they say about each of them and how the Falcon is simply “that great black super hero”. It’s funny that “Tarzan of the Apes” is for some reason included here and that The Thing’s clothing (which isn’t even the same color as his head) is actually his rock body! Another thing that’s pretty weird is that the narrator seems to think Mr. Fantastic has the power of invisibility too!? Oh yeah check out Conan the Barbarians afro too-dope! Either way you spin it these are probably the coolest action figures of all time…
