That’s Solomon Kane NOT Van Helsing!
I am a total sucker for fantasy films. I simply do not believe enough good or even bad fantasy movies have been put out for our viewing pleasure! So naturally I am most pumped for The Hobbit, can’t WAIT for Clash of the Titans, excited about Conan even though I am not too thrilled at their choice of Jason Momoa and actually pretty darn keen on Solomon Kane! So until The Hobbit hits theaters I’m gonna have to take what I can get! So far it looks as if Solomon Kane is going to be a fun fantasy flick at the very least. I am pretty easy to please in the fantasy department, I mean I even enjoyed Van Helsing for cryin’ out loud! Does that totally destroy any cred I may have had?? I have to say though he does kinda look like Van Helsing huh?
Well Solomon Kane was created by none other than Robert E. Howard (Conan the Barbarian) which obviously means gritty tales of high adventure and plenty of monsters. Continue reading
The Last Lovecraft!!
Today I just watched an exclusive tralier to the upcoming horror comedy The Last Lovecraft: The Relic of Cthulu at Bloody Disgusting and it looks awesome! I recently did blog about Tucker and Dale vs. Evil predicting that it would be the best horror comedy of 2010. After seeing this new trailer it looks like Tucker and Dale may have new competition! It looks like an epic horror adventure with some unlikely heroes done the right way. The story itself is pretty clever as well. Here’s the synopsis that’s been released:
“In the film Jeff, a down on his luck office worker, finds out he is the last living relative of horror novelist H.P. Lovecraft. What he doesn’t know is that Lovecraft’s monsters are real and will soon threaten the very existence of mankind. Jeff and his best friend Charlie are forced to embark on a perilous adventure and they enlist the help of high school acquaintance, Paul, a self proclaimed Lovecraft specialist. Together the three unlikely heroes must protect an alien relic and prevent the release of an ancient evil, known as Cthulhu.”
Tobey Maguire to star as Bilbo Baggins?!
Rumors are flying today as several sources like Cinematical.com and Britain’s The Sun are saying that Tobey Maguire has signed on as the lead in Guillermo del Toro’s The Hobbit! According to Cinematical.com “AMC Entertainment blogger John Campea recently tweeted that someone close to production has leaked the same news to him. He said, “I have been personally told by a source very close to Guillermo del Toro that it’s true… Tobey Maguire IS The Hobbit.”
Though it’s not offical yet it seems to me that this could be a great choice for Bilbo. Continue reading
Animated Jems of the 80’s that Rocked too!
I have been gearing up for quite sometime here to do a list of the Ten Best Animated Movies Ever and though I have most of my picks in mind I recently discovered two movies I desperately need to see before choosing the final ten. Now keep in mind when making this list I am not including computer animated movies like Shrek or Ice Age. I am compiling movies that were hand drawn animation. Well the other day while looking for images from Maximum Overdrive I ran across a movie poster online that brought back some memories as a child. The 1984 movie “Warriors of the Wind”….
The roots of rankin bass stop motion christmas?
Check out this ultra old school russian stop motion animation christmas short from 1913 from the Khanzhonkov Company. This makes me wonder if this started the whole Rankin Bass slew of christmas specials in some way since this has got to be one of the first ever. It also has some pretty weird imagery in it as well. Santa, dancing frogs, skiing insects make this almost dreamlike short quite bizzare! It is very remnisent of something perhaps that the Brothers Quay would have made. It’s actually pretty amazing considering the year it was made…
Clash of the Titans Kraken revealed!
Hey if you check out this link here at BloodyDisgusting.com you can see the new trailer (it’s not on youtube yet) for the Upcoming Clash of the Titans remake. Better yet you can finally see exactly what the legendary Kraken looks like! This movie is looking pretty amazing and this new footage keeps the hype level pretty high! Oh yeah and speaking of the Kraken and Clash of the Titans let’s not forget the awesome toy line that came out in 1980! This is on ebay right now too and if I had an extra $300 laying around I’d bid ! Amazing!!!
INK: Great Indie Film Making….
Last night I watched Ink, a intriquing new fantasy by Jamin Winans which was recently released on dvd and brought to mind films like Donnie Darko, Brazil and Dark City. I really wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by it’s truely unique story and visuals.
The basic premise of Ink is that when we sleep at night there are two forces that may visit us, the one who bring us good dreams and of course the ones who deliver nightmares. These forces are often at odds with each other and are ultimately trying to influence our every move in life. Both sides when entering our world are invisible to us and one character, Ink is on a mission for the dark ones to steal the soul of a young girl to gain acceptance into their ranks. The forces of good known as the Storytellers fight to stop this from happening while trying to wake her dead beat dad from his meaningless & mundane daily conciousness to save his daughters soul on the other side.
New Clash of the Titans Trailer!
Here it finally is the new trailer for the Clash of the Titans remake by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk). It looks pretty awesome so far to me and I must say I get pretty pumped for new fantasy movies. There just aren’t enough out there! As you can see this looks nothing like the original having a much darker tone to it. So far I’d say the effects look pretty good too. I’ve high hopes for this one-what do you think?
How Wild Was The Wild Things?
Yesterday I went to see the highly anticpated “Where The Wild Things Are”. I have been so pumped to see this movie (hasn’t everybody been?) since viewing the ultra emotional trailer that for some reason had the power to make grown men and women burst into tears. My friend insists that it’s soley because of the song by the Arcade Fire that accompanies it. So naturally I went into this movie with my expectations pretty high.

Did it deliver the goods?
2012…Stripped of its “Essentials”?
One part I really enjoy when I go to the movies are the trailers…who doesn’t love to see what next on the agenda! And typically, they pick trailers that fit the style of movie you are seeing…even better! So when I went to see Zombieland, one trailer that stuck out was the one for 2012. My thoughts right afterward…”wow, when did they decide to make The Day After Tomorrow 2?”, and then “why would they ever make The Day After Tomorrow2?” Alright, all kidding aside, the trailer is laughable, but in the world of special effects, it is beautiful and amazing. But then my mind wandered…what if we lived in a world that did not have special effects, and we had to rely on props and acting alone? Just remember, you were warned!
