The Terminator Finally Returns!
So it seems that the news is out on Arnold returning to acting today! I say It’s about time! Enough with the politics already!! Let’s take a quick moment to think about what Ah-nold should do next! We have to figure he’s now 63 years old so his roles may not be quite what they used to be-although if he’s going to do a follow up to one of his action movies NOW is the time before he gets way way too damn old to do any of them.
I say give him a few months to get into shape and put him in the next Expendables movie-he could be a villain or even face off against Stallone! That seems pretty likely actually. Although I could also see him turning up on the Predator hunting planet as an older Dutch and helping Adrien Brody kick some alien be-hind!
But my hopes really are that he will reprise the role of Conan in a movie he had been rumored for years to be possibly making: King Conan. He would be perfect in this role as the aged King set off on one last adventure. Personally that’s the role I am hoping for and I know people are already buzzing about it too. What I’m not hoping for is for him to now only take serious roles because he thinks he’s too old. Whatever the case I’m stoked to hear he’s back and cross my fingers for at least one more “Classic Arnold” role…..
Comic Book Cover of the Week! So Speaks The Champion!!
This particular cover from Marvel Two In One Annual #7 has to be one of my all-time favorites. Mainly because as a kid this particular issue was one of my all time favorite comic books ever. It’s a straight up boxing tournament where earth’s mightiest, Marvel’s heavyweights are all gathered to take on none other than the Champion. An unbeatable blue skinned red haired freako alien boxing fanatic put’s our favorite hero’s into a contest to simply see if any can actually provide a sufficient challenge to him.
You name it Marvel’s strongest are all here Sasquatch, Colossus, The Hulk, The Thing. Yeah they all get their asses served (well technically The Hulk never gets to fight cuz he freaks out in the ring and The Champion refuses to battle a wild monster), all except The Thing who does put up a decent fight. The smackdown though Mr. Grimm takes however is quite brutal and bloody especially for an 80’s comic. It always bummed me out that The Thing lost at the end but he definately gives the Champion a run for his money!
The Bionic Six?
Hey has anyone ever seen this cartoon before? I guess it’s from 1987 and must have slipped under my radar! Well it’s got a pretty bad ass theme song and the animation reminds me of the Thundercats, Silverhawks and Tigersharks cartoon. The Bionic Six looks like a winner that’s for sure-I gotta do some research on this one!
The Catchiest Pop Song of All Time…
Ladies and Gentleman I’d like you all to take a quick moment to start off your day with the catchiest song EVER written. The Gummy Bears theme song-I’d pretty much put this up against any Beatles song-Sorry Lennon-you guys were good and your songs were infectiously catchy but you had nothing on The Gummy Bears!!
Forgotten Star Wars Adventures…
This clip brightened my day today as it brought back some great memories of being a kid. The legendary Star Wars episode of The Muppet Show! This is a great skit here where Star Wars and Pigs in Space collide! Enjoy!!
Recent DVD Scores!
Every now and then I come across a movie I am just flat out stoked about finding on dvd! Sometimes they’re even movies I’ve completely forgotten existed. Well one such recent score is the absolutley brilliant and yet somehow underated fantasy 80’s adventure “Return to Oz”. This is a classic and just a downright entertaining film with some amazing sets, visuals and plenty of creepy monsters to keep your eyes glued to the screen.
Perhaps that’s why many people have never seen this movie-as in 1985 it was listed on Siskel & Ebert’s “worst of” list and was described as being too intense and dark for children. How ever it did receive an academy award nomination for “best visual effects”.If you get a chance I highly recommend revisting this movie as it’s a real treat to anyone craving a good fantasy flick and if you haven’t ever seen this you need to check it out immediately! I’m pretty glad I now own this one on dvd…
Milo Goes to Austin…
As many of you may already know I am a huge Descendents fan and most recently did a blog about them here as they have reunited once again to fill our souls with teen angst. Well it turns out that the Descendents were recently added to the bill as the headliner of the Austin, Texas “Fun Fun Fun Festival” as a replacement act for Devo who had apparently had to cancel their performance a mere two weeks ago due to an injury of one of the key band members. If I had more time I just may have tried to make it down to Austin for the show.
Last night was the first time these punk pioneers have played live in 8 years-though in 2004 they did release an album (Cool To Be You) they played no shows to support the album. I decided to check out youtube to see if anything had been posted yet and sure enough there was a nice video of these guys already up. Though they do look considerably older I know that they sill haven’t grown up…Enjoy my good friends! Enjoy…
The Seattle Weasel Experience!
Tomorrow evening I’m heading off to Seattle to ultimately end up friday evening to see one of my all-time fav punk rock bands Screeching Weasel! I’m pretty pumped as when I first heard them in 1990 they quickly went into heavy rotation as a soundtrack to my highschool years. Their album “My Brain Hurts” is one of the best punk albums of all time hands down. Now they’re back again in 2010 and it turns out a buddy of mine is actually in the band playing bass leading to me being on the guest list at the show(whoa-o-o-a-oh)!
Formed in 1986 these guys have been crankin’ out some of the snottiest anthems of the 80’s and 90’s and hey their from Chicago-near my old stompin’ ground, Wisconsin. Besides Illinois is really just the little brother state to the dairyland anyway. So in honor if this dork rockin’ this friday check out a couple tracks from the midwests best, Screeching Weasel…
More Norwegian Trolls Please!
Ever since I was a little kid I have had a fascination with Ny Form Trolls! No not the weird mongoloid looking ones with the neon hair, the bad ass ones from Norway! Ny Forms also have “real” hair as well but these ones look the way trolls were meant to. These amazing little sculptures hit the scene in 1964.
Here’s the history of how they came to be via the Trollshop.net:
“Somewhere in the middle of Norway, you will find a small and sparsely
populated mountain village called Tynset. It is located at the foot of a
five thousand feet high mountain Continue reading
