R.I.P. Corey….
Wow. This morning I was totally shocked when I got up and heard the news that Corey Haim had died just a couple hours ago. It really shouldn’t be that shocking though since all of his drug related problems right? He seemed like one of the most troubled former child actors out there yet still it shocked me as I felt a small part of my childhood die as well.
Corey Haim may have not been taken too seriously over the last 20 years but there was a time when he starred in some of the coolest movies of the 80’s. Obviously The Lost Boys was a great movie that may go down in history as the BEST vampire movie ever made. But Corey also starred in many other awesome movies that still today bring back fond memories of the 80’s and deserve a second, third or fourth veiwing in his honor. Here are a few of my faves some of them seem relatively forgotten by alot of people….
Firstborn was one of Corey’s first movies Continue reading
MARILYN MANSON LANDS A PLANE; Or, TURBULENCE 3—HEAVY METAL
Prequels, like good taste, are often not required for viewing sequels. DEATH WISH 3? Perfect example. Relishing in Bronson’s unhinged scum-stomping rampages requires no getting-to-know-ya handshake. TURBULENCE 3-HEAVY METAL also requires no teaser. Just, maybe a chaser?
The premise is pure support for the subtitle pun “heavy metal”. Self-proclaimed antichrist rock star Slade Craven has decided to film his final concert en route a pastel-upholstered, pretzel-lobbing airplane (which transcends any definition of metal that I can think of). But not all is rosy in hell. Rutger (BLADE RUNNER) Hauer, with a notably larger face, plays a devil worshipping pilot and believes Slade Craven is the “fake messiah”. He and globby-eyed VJ (top model Monika Schnarre) think Craven’s party should be crashed into a church in Oklahoma. This opens the seventh gateway to hell, unleashing the true satan.
(OK, I’ve seen THE BEYOND and thought this hellgate was in Louisiana?!) Continue reading
Rob Zombie – Redemption!
A couple months back, this dork was a bit hard on Rob Zombie. In a blog about his plans to remake The Blob, I guess I was a bit harsh in my criticism about how he keeps remaking things and why the divergence from the original works like House of the 100 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects. Well, today there was an article on CNN.com that bitch slapped me a bit and put my back in the mood for loving Mr. Zombie. Please read on to learn more!
Halloween Horror Movie Night! 5 Flicks that will deliver!
This is by far the best season to watch horror movies! So what are you gonna do with yourself before halloween? Spend your money sitting at a bar? Go to bed early? Watch reruns of Small Wonder ’til 2am? Smash some neighborhood pumpkins? No way! It’s Horror Movie Night time!! Pick out a few movies make some good food, grab some beer, invite some friends over and watch a few awesome movies in honor of this splendid holiday! But the real question is what to watch right? Well ponder this no longer because here are five movies that will be sure to please the even the most finnicky of your friends!
1. Trick ‘r Treat.
You read of the review months ago right here and luckily this one got released before halloween. This is probably your best bet for Horror Night since it obviously takes place on halloween and is one of the coolest halloween themed movies I have ever seen. It has a cool old school 80’s vibe, no CG and has four awesome interwoven tales of the macabre! Produced by X-men’s own Bryan singer to boot!
You can look to the Galaxy, or Within, for some Terror!
Fellow Universal Dork Pete Saturday posted an awesome review and reminder of the classic Creepozoids and I responded with a note about two other plot/theme related classics, The Terror Within and Galaxy of Terror. After some serious thought and internal reflection on my actions…I realize that it is pretty lame to just hang the carrot out in front of our dedicated dork followers. So I wanted to look up the info and give the readers more of a taste of these great features! Both of these have a touch of Roger Corman, just so you know what you are getting yourself into.

Zombies…Zombies…Everywhere!
Zombies are popular…right? So I decided to go on a hunt for some of the recent zombie releases and make a blog collecting them to inform our readers…quickly, I realized that zombies have gotten out of hand. This is my testament to the good, the bad, and the dead of the offerings over the last couple years (and upcoming). Oddly enough, I have not seen 75% of these. And since I could hardly sit through half of these trailers…I am sure the movies are much, much worse. If you can stomach it, here is a gut full of the putrid smorgasbord of undead flicks for your enjoyment.
This goes on forever, so if it takes you a couple days/weeks to make it through all of these trailers, I understand. Just please be thankful of the dedication of this dork to sit through all of them. Yeah, and I am sure I missed like 20 or so…
Enjoy you undead loving sick-o’s!

Watchmen is out today, remember the cartoon?
Hype up time. It is on the tip of everyone’s tounge, The Watchmen is finally a full length motion picutre. Much like other comic seires before it, The Watchmen was first explored at a television show (not many people know this). Spiderman, X-men, even Batman were all television programs before making it to the big screen. Do you guys remember The Watchmen Saturday morning cartoon show?
It was one of my favorites!
The Never-boring Neverending Story Video
I have to thank our local weekly paper’s music blog (The Portland Mercury’s End Hits) for reminding me of this gem from my childhood. I probably watched The Neverending Story about one zillion times when I was a kid. The adventures of Atreyu (not the lame band) and Artax (and later Falcor) really boostered my imagination as a kid. And, I think this video helped out. It’s the guy from Kajagoogoo. I always thought that big turtle guy looked like E.T.
Superman and Spider-Girl, crossover movie
Well, it might not be sanctioned by either Marvel or DC, but this is a pretty great paring of 2 great superheroes. I have never seen dance moves like this preformed whilst saving innocent victims from peril. So Awesome.
It’s awesome that they gave Superman the power to become “semi-transparent” while he flys, and… Spider-Girl can fly too. Yeah.
Grizzly Adams vs. The Christmas Nazi Elves!!
This was the second year that I celebrated Christmas with a “Christmas Horror” night. Yeah I know what you’re thinking, maybe we could have watched Scrooged, Black Christmas, Silent Night Deadly Night or even Gremlins right? WRONG! I wanted something special this year and what’s more amazing than watching a chain smoking “Grizzly Adams” battle evil nazi Elves on christmas eve?!! Yeah this little jem of a movie from 1988 is simply titled “Elves” and it delivered the goods!
The premise is simple, a teenage girl figures out that she is the spawn of a sinister Nazi experiment which involves human breeding with demonic elves attempting to create a race of superhumans. Her and two of her super skanky friends decide to spend the night in a department store hoping to get laid by a group of teenage douche bags in the sporting goods section.

But instead they discover they are trapped inside with a crazy horny elf and a group of neo Nazi’s hellbent on getting this little horndog laid on Christmas eve to officially start the master race. Their only hope is Dan Hagerty(hell yeah- TV’s Grizzly Adams!) who plays a down on his luck, chain smokin’, homeless, recovering alcoholic, ex-con, ex-cop who is currently trying to hold down a job as the department store’s Santa Claus. Really now does it get any better than that? Continue reading
