Comic Book Cover of the Week! Savage!

Well folks if you’re fans of the Hulk it just DOESN’T get any better that this! Here you have probably my favorite picture ever drawn and or painted of ol’ Jade Jaws by none other than the legendary John Buscema! This one comes from The Hulk Magazine #26 from 1978. The Hulk magazine was called also The Rampaging Hulk, and to be honest they all had pretty amazing covers. They were  essentially big Hulk comics, mostly printed in black and white, with original stories written exclusively for the magazine. They often times had back up stories by various other non-Hulk related characters and often times a Hulk “villains gallery” after the main Hulk story. Anyway when it comes to the Hulk this is what I always picture in my heads as what he should look like-a monster! I challenge anyone to provide me here with a better picture of the Hulk! Yeah it’s a dare!

He’s Back….Well Kinda…

Well here you have the return of Arnold, well kinda…here’s the first trailer from his new cartoon series which he created with Stan Lee. It’s called the Governator and yeah it looks pretty god damn lame….check this out…

The Avengers Movie: No Giant Man??!

This has been bothering me for sometime now, even though I am super pumped at the fact that Joss Whedon is directing The Avengers movie, yet massively bummed that Edward Norton won’t be returning as The Hulk, it all seems to be coming together nicely for one damn epic event! Except for 0ne thing-there has been no mention of Giant Man being featured in the film!

There has been documentation of Whedon saying that Ant-man won’t be in the movie and no mention of Hank Pym being in the flick…so what gives?? Well according to Production Weekly it appears from their listed synopsis that Ant-man and the Wasp may actually get screen time after all. Continue reading

Comic Book Cover of the Week! So Speaks The Champion!!

This particular cover from Marvel Two In One Annual #7 has to be one of my all-time favorites. Mainly because as a kid this particular issue was one of my all time favorite comic books ever. It’s a straight up boxing tournament where earth’s mightiest, Marvel’s heavyweights are all gathered to take on none other than the Champion. An unbeatable blue skinned  red haired freako alien boxing fanatic put’s our favorite hero’s into a contest to simply see if any can actually provide a sufficient challenge to him. You name it Marvel’s strongest are all here Sasquatch, Colossus, The Hulk, The Thing. Yeah they all get their asses served (well technically The Hulk never gets to fight cuz he freaks out in the ring and The Champion refuses to battle a wild monster), all except The Thing who does put up a decent fight. The smackdown though Mr. Grimm takes however is quite brutal and bloody especially for an 80’s comic. It always bummed me out that The Thing lost at the end but he definately gives the Champion a run for his money!

Comic Book Cover of the Week! More Sandman!

Here’s another cover that I totally dig and yeah surprisingly enough it’s got the Sandman on it again-This time crushing the Hulk way back in The Incredible Hulk #113! Back in the day though the Sandman was not exclusively busting Peter Parkers chops but was also going toe to toe with The Hulk pretty regularly. There’s something so undeniably cool about the Sandman and this classic cover shows how rad he was even way back when in his alternate costume! Covers like these make me hope that some day we’re rid of the Red Hulk, A-bomb and the current confusing mess that now floods the pages of the jade giant…

World’s Lamest Villain becomes an A-lister!!

It happens in the movies all the time, when suddenly out of no where a C list or D list actor suddenly makes the jump into a blockbuster flick somehow (like Stephen Dorff in the new Sofia Coppola flick)-well it happens in the comics too and the upcoming Wolverine: The Best There is #2 proves that! It was a while back where I profiled the ultra lame Madcap right here as one of the world’s lamest villains, a D-list character who made a few ridiculous appearances in Captain America in the 80’s using a bubble gun that drove people batty and taking on taking on Cap’s buddy Nomad several times.

Well now good ol’ Madcap is bringing his antics back in the new ultra violent Charlie Hutson penned Wolverine series. This time however it seems that Madcap is even more fucked in the head than imagined as he’s now working for Wolverine’s newest villain Contagion and from the sneek peek it appears he’s ripped out his own eyes. Since Madcap can’t feel any pain this upcoming bout proves to be an interesting one I’m pumped to check out! Who knows too maybe this will put Madcap on the map as one of Wolvie’s A-list enemies-lord knows we’ve had enough of Sabretooth! Now maybe if we can just get The Slug out of hibernation to take on Logan ??

Comic Book Cover of the Week! It’s Miller Time!

So this weeks cover is one of my faves drawn by Thing artist extraordinaire Ron Wilson-I always love comic book story lines that really show superheroes on their time off. This particular issue has an amazing cover that simply shows the Thing gettin’ wasted at the local dive bar with none other than the Sandman! This was an unusual pairing at the time to have The Thing “teaming up” with a villain but it seems that after this issue in which the Sandman contemplates his life’s direction and tells his complete origin to Ben Grimm, that the two seem to have a friendship that forms that will lead them once again to drink beer together in yet another later issue (the next time will be in a hospital room). It’s simple comic book story lines that I feel are missed greatly in the comics of today-If you’re looking for a great simple and fun back issue to check out Marvel Two in One #88 from 1982-just make sure to crack open a cold one when reading!

Comic Book Cover of the Week!! Everyone LOVES a Grab Bag!!

Geeeeezus!! I know you all must be thinking I’m so lame or got abducted by aliens or something?! Nah I have just been sooo dang busy at our new store, as we opened it officially about 10 days ago! It’s been ALOT of work and continues to be and I have been feelin’ a bit out of the loop in the nerdom real lately-well, no more I say! I’m back and gonna be hitting the blog hard again now that it’s become just a bit more manageable-So today I though the comic book cover of the week had better be festive! Comic Book Cover of the Week!

I am going to start posting some of my all time favorite comic book covers right here every week. Some will be old some new but all the covers will be totally rad. This first one is a classic and I’m sure it’s on everyone’s list of greatest covers already but really this one from the 80’s can’t be posted enough. It’s during a classic storyline involving the Brood-and this cover by Mark Silvestri (X-men 234) is one of the best X-men images of all time…Stay tuned for some more well known and forgotten comic book cover classics!!
