Star Trek Cell Phone Bling…The Future In Our Hands!

Let me guess, there are a lot of Universal Dork followers out there that wish that just a tiny bit…a smidge of the technology we see in sci-fi movies/shows would be real. From teleportation to phasers, or warp speed to food replication…I always thought that Star Trek was one of the most innovative and inspiring shows that pushed the limits with technology…but for some reason you knew it could be real someday.

Well there have been announcements on teleporting photos across a room…cool, but a long way to go till we get to something bigger. May theorists have bought into Warp speed…but again it looks great in the math and on paper. Well wait no more, because now you too can have a Star Trek communicator that works with your cell phone via Bluetooth! All home made, and of course, classic Star Trek style as well, with the flip top and everything.

Creepshow: the online series!!

I was happy to discover today that the first episode of  the Creepshow web series was recently launched! The first two Creepshow movies are pretty awesome and a favorite from my childhood. This great 8 minute Creepshow Raw episode keeps up with the fun comic book style horror and you’d swear it was made in 1980’s  check this out! You even get Michael Madsen as the asshole step dad!

The Guyver…Live Action Anime for Everyone!

While digging through some old VHS tapes the other day, I encountered one of the best 90’s sci-fi movies…that I had completely forgot about…Shame on me!  It was a decrepit old copy of Guyver 2: Dark Hero.  As with many of our movie refreshes/reviews, you are probably once again saying to yourself “I have never even heard of this!”   Well consider yourself blessed, cause here is some background on one hell of a great movie!

AVP…NO! AVN…Alien versus Ninja! Yeah!

Normally I would just laugh off a movie concept like this…kind of like Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. But much the same reason I endured Mega Shark, I am just curious to see what a film makers vision for aliens and ninja is going to be like. To date, the details are few, so I am sure that it will be sometime till we see the final product. But I am sure once this goes direct to video in the US, I will have it on my Netflix queue!

Out of the Microverse and to the Big Screen…Abrams Looking at The Micronauts

From Lost, to the new Star Trek…JJ Abrams keeps bringing the goods and I for one am happy that a fresh face in Hollywood is able to remake/reimagine and create originals that continue to stir fans crazy. Although I was not a huge fan of Cloverfield, I loved the fact that it was a fresh and original take on the older big ass monster attach genre. So keep the fans guessing, it appears that Abrams is in negotiations to bring a bit of an offbeat but classic comic, The Micronauts, to the silver screen (make sure to check this link, a great site dedicated to the Micronauts!).

Kick-Ass movie posters revealed!

I read an article at Ign.com today about the Kick-Ass the movie and the new movie posters! I am so damn excited about this movie I can’t even put it into words. If you have ever read the comic book then you totally understand why. It’s one of the best comics I have ever read and sadly one of the quickest reads too. I have always wondered what it would be like in the world if we had real life superheroes and I’m not talking about those guys that walk around the streets in costume giving food to homeless people. Don’t get me wrong it’s a good deed but I am talking about real life masked crime fighters. Well as you probably already know this book answers that question in a world where nobody has super powers. Hopefully the movie won’t be a watered down Hollywood version of the the comic. Anyway here’s one of the posters. Ign has a cool article there about the movie and three more versions of the posters.

Roger Rabbit Returns….

Over the weekend it was revealed that Robert Zemekis is indeed bringing Roger Rabbit back to the big screen. There hasn’t been too much solid info revealed on the sequel except that movie will be penned by it’s original writers Peter Seaman and Jeffrey Price. There has been talk of making the movie partailly in 3-D and using motion capture for all characters other than the cartoons in a recent interview I saw at Mtv.com. Something is starting to sound a little well how can I put it quite simply? Lame!

So wasn’t the charm of the first movie the fact that the Toons were existing in the real world? Continue reading

Joe Dante’s Return to the Supernatural!

I am pumped for Joe Dante’s new upcoming movie, The Hole. As you may already know Joe Dante was responsible for such classics as Gremlins, The Howling, Innerspace, The Explorers and horror classic Pirahna (now being remade) in the late 70’s. Most recently I rewatched “The Burbs” which was another great movie he helmed as well as Twilight Zone: The Movie. His movies always have that almost family friendly 80’s quality to them, even his later “horror” films and I mean that in a very good way.  A feel that you don’t find so much in modern cinema anymore. Well his next movie is supposed to have that old school feel to it. He compared it in recent interviews to the 80’s classic “The Gate” which is one of my all time favs. He also stated the film will be in 3-D and will deliver some classic chills. I personally would love to have that feeling again I had when I first saw Gremlins. I have a feeling this film is going to be ALOT of fun…check out this Interview with Joe as he gives a little more insight on this family friendly horror movie:

House of the Devil Carries Quite The Curse

Well, well, well…I just wrapped up a session with the much hyped House of the Devil and so I felt that a Universal Dork review would be just what the Doctor ordered.  Apparently, this lower budget suspense/thriller/horror flick has been doing the rounds in the fall film festivals and getting rave reviews.  Lately, the new horror movies that are tickling the fancies of the festivals have been getting great grades on my score chart (i.e., Paranormal Activity, Trick ‘r Treat), so we will just have to see how this one stacks up!

It’s Time to give The Incredible Hulk a Chance Again!

As you may already know I am huge Incredible Hulk fan yet It has been at least a year since I have followed the comic book. I will admit I was hooked on Planet Hulk & World War Hulk. Infact I must admit those were some of the best Hulk stories I’ve read in years. Then what happens to my Hulk title that Greg Pack had so magnificently written? Well for some reason the title tuned into The Incredible Hercules and we start following the exploits of Hercules instead of the Hulk. Um ok…then a new title simply called Hulk emerges written by Jeph Loeb. Well I have to be honest about Mr. Loeb, he’s pretty hit or miss. Usually a miss in my opinion. I read maybe the first two issues of this title and was less than impressed. In fact so unimpressed I never picked up an issue again.
