Truly Un-Epic Hand Lasers Rule!!

So you all are aware of how much I like bad movies? You may be able to tell by my post yesterday how much I enjoy 80’s fantasy movies. So once again I stumble upon a trailer for a movie that I simply have GOT to see. It’s apparently from 1984, made in Indonesia and looks to be the shiniest turd of a film I have yet to lay my eyes upon! Check out the trailer for the most truly un-epic movie of the 80’s!

This movie seems to have it all folks! Terrible fight sequences, completely ridiculous looking special effects, laughably raunchy sex scenes, people who ride on flying rocks and who shoot lasers from their hands! It really doesn’t get any better or worse than this! Today I begin my own hunt for this craptastic gem cuzI feel a bad movie night coming on soon!

Tim Robbins the Barbarian?

So today I suddenly discovered a possible 1980’s fantasy movie that I have never seen before! The movie in question is “Eric The Viking” from 1989 and stars Tim Robbins as well a swashbuckling viking. Now I wonder by looking at the movie poster how this movie ever could have slipped beneath my radar?

My best guess is that this one probably sucks or is was utterly forgetable. Or could it be that it’ll soon be one of my fave fantasy movies of all time? Continue reading

Watch Out for Uncle Sam this 4th of July!

So what are you doing this 4th of July? Watching Fireworks? BBQing? Drinkin’ beer? Well while you do all that shit-watch the hell out for Uncle Sam!!! Surely you have all seen 1997’s horror film Uncle Sam right? Well from what I understand it’s really one of the only if not the only 4th of July themed horror flicks around.

In this goofy horror romp, put out by the same people who brought you “Jack Frost” the killer snow man, comes a tale set on the 4th of July where Uncle Sam rises from his grave to keep unpatriotic people in line! Yeah just like our Government Sam’s a total dick! Directed by William Lustig, of the awesome Maniac Cop and Maniac Cop 2 this is the perfect film to view after you’ve partied down today, now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got a BBQ I gotta get to!

Recent Ray Bradbury Mania!

It must just be by chance that recently I’ve gotten on a little Ray Bradbury kick. Sadly not in book form, but rather in the way of first, Ray Bradbury Theater which I recently found on dvd! What you never heard of Ray Bradbury Theater? Well it was kinda like Amazing Stories or The Twilight Zone and first came onto TV in 1985 as an HBO series.

If you do a little hunting you can find these all for pretty cheap and they are a pretty fun little late night watch Continue reading

Comic Book Cover of the Week!

Here we have on of my favorite comic book covers and annuals, Incredible Hulk Annual #15! This one not only has a beautifully drawn cover by Mike Zeck, who really didn’t dabble much in the Hulk territory very often, if at all  but it also is one helluva great issue of  non stop action! This time around the Abomination is not quite feeling himself as his body has been taken over by the spirit of Tyrannus! It’s also during the time when The Hulk was gray again back in the mid 80’s. The inside is incredibly drawn by Hulk legend Sal Buscema, and this issue features some of his best Hulk art ever…

JLA 1997 TV Pilot? REALLY?

I just heard yesterday about this JLA Tv pilot from 1997 that you can see on Youtube now, yeah you can watch the whole damn wretched thing! I honestly didn’t even know this existed until I read about it in The Portland Mercury yesterday. It’s from back in 1997, it never saw the light of day and I can undertsand why! It totally sucks in every way possible. It’s super flippin’ boring for a show that is supposed to be about some of the earth’s mightiest heroes! Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman knew better than to get involved in this terd! Seriously I combed over what I could stomach of this hunk of shit and could barely find anything that remotely resembled an  action sequence-it’s no wonder  no tv station wanted this shit on the air-check it out here…bizarre!!!

The 8 Other Movies “Super 8” Owes it’s Success to…

So I’m here to tell tell you a few things today, as you guessed “Super 8” is the movie to see this summer, I loved it. Secondly it’s very obvious that JJ Abrams was a fan of The Goonies and E.T. and was trying his best (he succeeded) in replicating the nostalgic vibe of those movies for the big screen this year. He gave us that feeling we all have missed for so many years in our summer movies. But most of all it was a formula that had been used many times throughout the 80’s not only in E.T. and The Goonies but many more that have been all but forgotten.

It was a formula that seemed to put kids on dangerous adventures, most often supernatural ones, usually in small towns or the suburbs and most often trying to prove to their parents some crazy story to be true with often times unlucky results. These stories were filled with wonder and most of all they were so undeniably fun to watch that to see a movie like “Super 8” or even Joe Dante’s latest movie “The Hole” in this day and age is a breath of fresh air. So here today in response to Super 8 I’d like to honor 8 more movies Abrams was likely heavily influenced by when he made his latest

1.  The Gate (1986) To say JJ wasn’t influenced by this movie when making Super 8 would be a crime!! Continue reading

LARPERS Gone WILD!!

Ever wonder what might happen if a troop of LARP-ers suddenly went wacko?! Well wonder no more in this new thriller I just saw the trailer for. “The Wild Hunt” follows a crew of live action role players that would make Tom Hanks’ version of Mazes & Monsters look like an afternoon on Sesame Street!

Now keep in mind I haven’t actually seen this Canadian movie yet but I have heard some great things about it. I have also heard that LARP-ers all over the world are taking offense to flick saying that it gives them a bad name! Continue reading
