2012…Stripped of its “Essentials”?
One part I really enjoy when I go to the movies are the trailers…who doesn’t love to see what next on the agenda! And typically, they pick trailers that fit the style of movie you are seeing…even better! So when I went to see Zombieland, one trailer that stuck out was the one for 2012. My thoughts right afterward…”wow, when did they decide to make The Day After Tomorrow 2?”, and then “why would they ever make The Day After Tomorrow2?” Alright, all kidding aside, the trailer is laughable, but in the world of special effects, it is beautiful and amazing. But then my mind wandered…what if we lived in a world that did not have special effects, and we had to rely on props and acting alone? Just remember, you were warned!
Renaissance…not just an Era anymore!
Peter Saturday’s last post on the French animated/puppeteer movie Strings triggered a French movie moment on my part as well. Another great little known French release from 2006 that I highly recommend is Renaissance! This is a futuristic dark and gritty CGI film that looks like it was drawn by the guy that does the KMFDM album artwork (Brute!, aka Adrian Hughes)…but it wasn’t. If this sounds remotely interesting, I suggest you read on!
The Unborn…A Trip Into the Cliché!
Well, on the surface this is actually not that bad of a horror/haunting thriller. But if you are looking for something with substance and a well developed plot…look elsewhere. The Unborn (just coming to DVD) was released earlier this year, and the trailers piqued my interest a bit. Unfortunately, I did not catch it on the silver screen…so I threw ‘er on the Netflix queue and waited. Read on to learn more! Achtung! Spoiler Alert! I will be ripping on aspects of this movie that might take away from your viewing experience…although I doubt it.
Beware! Negadon: The Monster from Mars Blows You Away!
Well, it is not every day that you get such a treat as this…and believe me, this one was an unknown surprise. Do you like big monsters…do you like video games…do you like anime?? Then I can’t overstate my recommendation to watch Negadon: The Monster for Mars!
Who’ll save the day?…The Super Hero Squad!
There is no doubt that I will forever be a big kid…and there is no changing that…ever…even with fisticuffs! So when Cartoon Network debuted Marvel’s new cartoon addition to its comic legacy, The Super Hero Squad, all of my super senses were poised and ready to view. Of course, I did my usual relaxation, meditation, and inner soul searching to prepare myself for what I knew would be the case. This is a kid’s show, and I have to make the concessions necessary. Well, the verdict is in…call me a dork, I deserve it, I freaking loved the show! But I am easy to please.

You can look to the Galaxy, or Within, for some Terror!
Fellow Universal Dork Pete Saturday posted an awesome review and reminder of the classic Creepozoids and I responded with a note about two other plot/theme related classics, The Terror Within and Galaxy of Terror. After some serious thought and internal reflection on my actions…I realize that it is pretty lame to just hang the carrot out in front of our dedicated dork followers. So I wanted to look up the info and give the readers more of a taste of these great features! Both of these have a touch of Roger Corman, just so you know what you are getting yourself into.

They Reached The Final Destination…and the Outlook is Good
Just a warning for readers, if you expect content, character development, good dialog, and interesting plot…then wow, you came to the wrong movie. The Final Destination has none of these aspects. But if you are coming for unbelievable aligning of events that result in violent unpredictable deaths, great gore, and a guaranteed hunks of body flying past the screen every 10-15 minutes, then The Final Destination is your stop.
Gettin’ Down with Watership Down
Any attempt I can get, I love to relive the cartoons and movies of my childhood. In this particular case, it occurred to me…what about that movie Watership Down? I am sure many of the loyal readers are familiar but are most likely in the same position I found myself…I remember that movie, I remember rabbits fighting…lots of blood, it being very confusing…and very dark. Well, I sat down the other night and watched the classic again and I highly recommend that all the readers, if you have not seen this recently, take the time…it is a classic story for a reason.
If The Orphan calls….it’s gonna be bad news in a very good way!
In response to the most recent post about the new horror flick “The Collector” being more or less a total clunker, I just had to give theater going horror fans a little hope. I realize that this movie opened up on the 24th and many of you may have already seen it, but for those of you who haven’t you need to trek on down to the theater for “Orphan”!

Halloween Came Early This Year!
Fellow Universal Dorks, let’s return to a day back in June, June 16th of 2009 to be exact…where Universal Dork authored the blog entitled 4 Horror flicks you didn’t know you were excited for! In particular the movie Trick r’ Treat was called out for a movie that you want to add to your list. Well friends, Universal Dork has pushed to the frontlines of Dorkness and is represented at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con International, and last night there was an pre-viewing of TRICK R’ TREAT!
