Iron Man The Pop Singer?!

Weird, today I stumbles across Avenger’s star Robert Downey Jr’s solo album he put out in 2004 called “The Futurist”. Strange stuff-I had no idea he was an adult contemporary singer! Ahhh yes my least favorite genre of music!

It seems that I’m not the only one who’s head this info skipped over. The album pretty much tanked when he released it and he went on to state that he probably wouldn’t ever attempt another one. Hey I think it was a good thing he dropped the music career personally-I’m not sure what you think but I could live with out hearing this song again…

Krush Groove: Most DEF Rap Movie EVER!

Last night was a real treat – I watched Krush Groove for the first time ever! My verdict? Totally DEF!!

It takes you straight back to 1985 in the best way possible as the movie stars Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys, Sheila E and has cameos by The Beastie Boys, LL Cool J and New Edition. It’s the story of Def Jam recordings, well a very very loose version of how it all went down. What’s most important is that it’s a helluva great time.

It’s so awesome to see something that I somehow missed as a kid growing up in 2012. You get to watch Russel Simmons (Walker in the movie) form the label, compete with skeezy 80’s record producers, get into money trouble with gangsters and most of all discover new talent like The Fat Boys while falling head over heels for Sheila E.

Check out this clip of The Fat Boys as they rule the school with their rap skills…

So don’t waste anymore time-if you haven’t seen this one that’s jam packed with bad ass classic rap, break dancing and some hilarious 80’s drama you best be doing “the worm” to your local video store or netflix account asap!!

We’ll Miss You MCA….

Who the heck doesn’t love the Beastie Boys?! If you don’t then you probably don’t like having fun plain and simple. We all know that MCA sadly passed yesterday and one thing is for certain he will be missed. Him and the Boys have been putting out great albums to this day. He’s a huge influence in the world of hip hop and a truly amazing MC. Once again we lose another great entertainer far too young…

Three’s Company Gets a New Roomate & Gets IRIE!

Well there hasn’t been too much news lately that has grabbed me and inspired me to blog, which can be tough as a blogger as I’d like to post something every day! But it’s hard to find new cool things to talk about everyday-well I try at least! What I did do last night was put up a new song on youtube which I wrote about my favorite sitcom of all time Three’s Company! Yeah when you watch this show at an older age you really get the jokes that you missed out on as a kid-also you realize that Jack & Larry are the biggest perves of the late 70’s! And yes that’s me there with my three new roomates!! I wrote this nerdcore dancehall track under alias Mister Saturday as a tribute to one of the BEST shows ever!!

Let’s Search for Spock!

Here’s a little video clip for anyone interested in Spock. It’s a dancehall track I wrote in honor of the legendary Vulcan and I recently put it up on Youtube for the whole galaxy to enjoy!

I also put up a Mister Saturday Bandcamp page so you can download some hardcore nerdcore for free….

Anyway check it out if you haven’t already!

The Best Album Cover of 1980 – El HULK De La Salsa!

Well I really don’t have a helluva lot to say about this here because well, this picture pretty much says it all! This album cover comes from 1980 by salsa band “Sociedad 76” and it’s called “El Hulk De La Salsa”. That’s what you get on the cover, Hulk getting ready to beat down on some drums to some sweet salsa jams! I really don’t care how god or bad this group is they are already the BEST salsa band around for the simple fact they got a Hulk on their damn cover!

Truly STRANGE Celebrity Comic Book Appearances!! Part 1!

I am going to do a little research here to find out the most bizarre celebrity appearances in comic books over the years-believe me there are some weird ones! This first week will focus on the legendary comic book appearance of Alice Cooper that took place in 1979 in Marvel Premiere #50!!

This is a pretty fun comic book altogether with some great artwork and zany story that follows our hero Alice as he tries to escape from the mental ward where he’s basically abused by “The Doctor” the story’s villain. It seems ol’ Alice just can’t catch a break here as he’s foiled again and again.

The comic book adventure is titled “From the Inside” and is based on the album of the same name. This wasn’t the last appearance of Alice in a Marvel Comic book he actually returned again in 1994 for a 3 part mini series written by Neil Gaiman called The Last Temptation which accompanied his album of the same name. So Alice is a certified Marvel character! Check them out!

It’s 2012 – Time to Rhyme the Current Events!

Are you sick of hearing the same old same old news talk on CNN or Fox news? All the same old B.S. delivered and served up for us all the same way? Yeah me too, so take a second to check out the current events delivered in a little bit less obnoxious fashion-a genius rap to give you a lesson in what’s up in the world here in 2012…enjoy!

Still Trying to Forget The “New Monkees” of 1987!!

Well I have had The Monkees on the brain since hearing of Davy Jones passing yesterday. It got me thinking of the Monkees when I was a kid and how much I loved them. It also got me thinking of something else I wish I could forget-do any of you remember The New Monkees?!!

If not that’s probably a good thing! If you do then you know what a crap-tas-tic idea and show this was. The year was 1987 and in 1986 the Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork released the hit song “That Was Then, This is Now” remember that? Well it brought on a sort of Monkees revival and someone over at Columbia Pictures thought the answer to this new rise in popularity was….The New Monkees.

These idiots had zero to do with the old group but somehow they got a tv show, an album and the band name The Monkees! Not a bad deal huh!? Well what happened was nobody gave a shit about the NEW Monkees, their show or their music-because well, people loved the REAL Monkees!!! I know as a kid this shit didn’t compare and it actually made me angry when this show would suddenly appear on my tv screen! Geez…anyway they made some really bad 80’s music and 13 really incredibly unfunny tv episodes….so live it up New Monkees today you get another 5 seconds of fame from me here….Enjoy!!

Universal Dork : The Song!

So I could go on on on and on about all the multi million dollar movies out there and hype them up even more, or talk mad shit on them til the cows come home-but really do they need anymore people promoting their shit for them? I think not. Instead though I am going to hype up my new song I wrote with Ensly Mogul my spacehall nerdcore partner in crime. In fact he was an original contributor here on Universal Dork and from time to time used to post here. I have been releasing nerdcore dance hall for years and just recently started up writing new jams and rehearsing with Mogul for live shows.

Anyway we just recently put the finishing touches on this one, which is a nerdcore mix of hip hop, reggae spacehall bursting with dork rhymes galore. This is the second track we’ve released and it will be part of our upcoming full length album – dorks unite and please help us spread the word and let us know what you think so far!
