The Catchiest Pop Song of All Time…

Ladies and Gentleman I’d like you all to take a quick moment to start off your day with the catchiest song EVER written. The Gummy Bears theme song-I’d pretty much put this up against any Beatles song-Sorry Lennon-you guys were good and your songs were infectiously catchy but you had nothing on The Gummy Bears!!

World’s Greatest Puppet Themed Videos!! Metal Puppets RULE!

As the ongoing search for the world’s best damn puppet videos continues we’ve got a new treasure to add to the list! This could be one of the best ones yet! A song called “Buffoun Bloody Buffoun” by ex-King Diamond fronted goth metal band Notre Dame. This one’s really got it all-ALOT of mother fuckin’ puppet masters and their puppets acting like a bunch of damn maniacs! How can you go wrong? check out this late 90’s vid-and thanks again TJ for the recommendation!!

Milo Goes to Austin…

As many of you may already know I am a huge Descendents fan and most recently did a blog about them here as they have reunited once again to fill our souls with teen angst. Well it turns out that the Descendents were recently added to the bill as the headliner of the Austin, Texas “Fun Fun Fun Festival” as a replacement act for Devo who had apparently had to cancel their performance a mere two weeks ago due to an injury of one of the key band members. If I had more time I just may have tried to make it down to Austin for the show.

Last night was the first time these punk pioneers have played live in 8 years-though in 2004 they did release an  album (Cool To Be You) they played no shows to support the album. I decided to check out youtube to see if anything had been posted yet and sure enough there was a nice video of these guys already up. Though they do look considerably older I know that they sill haven’t grown up…Enjoy my good friends! Enjoy…

Get Down To Some New Power Metal!

I am a sucker for some good power fantasy metal and one of the best newer bands is Elvenking. Weve listened to this Italian metal band for quite some time while fighting epic battles in our D&D adventures. This track called “Runereader”  is from their new album Silent Red Tides, from what I understand the album will be officially released here in the United States on November 9th-with a name like Elvenking how can you go wrong?

World’s Greatest Puppet Themed Songs….part 1!

Sometimes when it’s late at night I must admit-I just wanna blog..Yeah maybe I don’t have the scoop on the next great comic book movie, or any real opinion on some lame pg-13 horror movie or maybe not anything clever at all to say about anything. Sometimes I just wanna have a glass of whiskey and listen to a song , watch a video on Youtube that I personally think should be seen by all you late night drinkers. So as I desperately searched for a cool ass puppet themed music vid to post I thought what the fuck-let’s just get a rad song that has some puppet talk in it and post it right here for anyone who just might be as bored as me tonight. We all know that puppets kick major ass-and they can make the world’s most lame band suddenly kick ass when they appear in their rock vids. Well sometimes a band decides just to sing their asses off about puppets. That puppet themed song actually has no puppets in the vid-it’s just a great song by a rad band everyone has heard of…Soul Asylum.

So I already know there are  gonna be some ill-informed people here who think Soul Asylum was that one dumb band from the early 90’s who had that lame song “Runaway Train”. Well what people don’t know is that actually Soul Asylum was getting wasted and rockin’ the hell out of the 80’s for a long time before they were featured in Teen Beat mag in the 90’s. Yeah talk about one of the best indie bands of the 80’s-Soul Asylum was IT. They rocked harder than the Replacements, had albums produced by Bob Mould from Husker Du and were hands down one of the best drunken live acts kicin’ your ass with rad guitar riffs and catchy as hell anthems. Straight outta the mid-west, Minnesota to be exact (yeah I am from Wisconsin-deal with it!) These guys were playing my hood religiously back in the day and this song comes from on of the BEST power pop punk albums ever made-Hang Time. Period. If you are really looking to fill a glass full of whiskey tonite then you best accompany it by one of the best drunken bands of the 80’s-and check out one of the best puppet themed songs ever written-Marionette, by yeah, you guessed it that band that wrote Runaway Train…enjoy…

World’s Greatest Puppet Themed Music Videos! Part 3!

Ok so here’s a quickie today once again dealing with puppets in music videos! Today we’ll be checking out Supergrass’ “Pumping on Your Stereo” which features some pretty fucked up puppet horseplay! It’s not a half bad song either-but once again adding the whole puppet angle into the mix makes this track rock that much harder! More to come and if you got any good puppet themed vids in mind please send them my way!!!

World’s Greatest Puppet Themed Music Videos! Part 2!

Ok so here we are again with some more puppet themed videos!! Hell yeah! So here are a couple more music videos that feature some rad puppets-The first up is Interpol’s “Evil”. As I am not a big fan of the band what I can tell you is that I’m a huge fan of that creepy ass puppet they got in their damn video!! See the band just made themselves totally rad by having a cool puppet in their video-see it’s not that hard to make it I tell you if you just rely on the skills of a puppet and ride it’s coat tails all the way to the top!!! check it:

Ok next up is Weezer’s “Keep Fishin'”. I think we can all kinda agree that Weezer now days just kinda blows and I think Rivers has caught onto that. That’s why he decided to get the mother fucking Muppets into his band’s video! See this a common practice of bands that either aren’t that good or have somehow lost their magic. My simple rule proves true again-add a damn puppet to a music video and suddenly the song rocks ten times harder…

World’s Greatest Puppet Themed Music videos!! Part One!

Ok so I think we can all agree that puppets pretty much rule. Hands down. So I was thinking here at Universal Dork that I’d start doing a little research and find the BEST music videos featuring puppets-because really if you add a damn puppet to a music video it suddenly becomes the shit! Seriously even some songs that otherwise suck get ten times better when a mother fuckin’ puppet pops up in the video. So today I will start it off with a couple of my faves and one of which is an obvious choice for quite possibly best music video featuring puppets! It’s seriously gonna be hard to top the puppetry genious of Genesis’ “Land of Confusion”.

I have a feeling that it just may be the best puppet themed video of all time-but we’ll really just have to put it to the test as I will sporadically post them over the next two weeks to finally see who reigns supreme as the ultimate musical master of puppets! So stay tuned. First though check out the video I have a feeling no one can touch….

Pretty fucking genious huh??? If you remember these puppets were originally featured on a popular 80’s tv show called Spitting Image-apparently Phil Collins lost his shit when he saw the tv show the first time and called the creators of the it to ask them to make puppet versions of the whole band. Must be nice to be Phil huh??

Next check out this unique puppet video for the song “Package Thief” from one of my all time fav bands Superchunk!  Continue reading
