With the economy in a shambles and money flow down, new comic day can be a little trickier than it used to be. I’ve already dropped alot of titles that just weren’t cutting it anymore and with many comic books now moving their prices up to $3.99 a pop I’ve really become alot more choosy on what I read every week. It seems to me alot of the Marvel stuff I was reading I’ve left at the wayside. Poor stories and barely acceptable artwork runs common in many of their titles. Even our homeboy Bendis seems to have lost his magic touch. There however are a few titles that always seem to make the cut. “The Walking Dead” is a no brainer and probably the BEST comic book out there today. But there’s also another horror comic which is delivering the chills consistantly, Garth Ennis’s “Crossed”.

By now you all probably know that Mr. Ennis is gonna shock the hell out of you in pretty much whatever he does. “The Boys” for example was pretty much as vulgarly satisfying as it could get right? Well if you have been reading Crossed you already know the answer to this question. Crossed is a much more serious approach by Ennis and it’s also probably the most terrifying comic book I’ve ever read.

At first look you might pass it off as just another generic zombie comic hitting the already flooded shelves every week.  But this just ain’t the case here. This comic is reminisant of the late 80’s zombie masterpeice Deadworld.  This comic is brutal, dark and action packed. People around the world have fallen to  epidemic spawned by a potentially global infection leading its citizens to explore the ultimate limits in human cruelty. These people are the Crossed. Unlike zombies they are cunning and totally ruthless. The story follows the exploits of a small band of suvivors as they simply try to survive in this crazy world. 

Where the Walking Dead is much more involved with the human interaction than the blood and guts, Crossed delivers to a nearly unthinkable level of gore and suspense. If you haven’t already go check this awesome comic book out. Just make sure you have a strong stomach and read it with the lights on (also reading the dark can be ETREMELY difficult). It is one of the few survivors of the economic downfall and bland, watered down storytelling hitting  the market today! What comic books are a must have for you every month?
