FEAST III: the happy finish

After seeing the highly disappointing Feast II: Sloppy Seconds, i really didn’t have any expectations for the third and final installment. This movie arrived in video stores in less than a year from the previous ones release. The Happy Finish however is slightly better than the previous film but is still just one big unfunny dick, fart and poop joke. They for some reason used alot of CG blood again (NEVER go that route guys!! Is corn syrup and red food coloring really that expensive now days?!) and weird green screen CG back drops.

The premise of the movie is pretty much the same again as the second one. The group from the end of the last movie is trying to survive the attack still and they meet a whole new cast of characters along the way to be mauled by the very rubbery looking monsters. It includes a cloaked man called “Shortbus” who seemingly can control the monsters and a cheezy kung-fu master called “Jean Claude Segal” among many others.

What started out as one of the coolest horror franchises has pretty much been reduced to a continuing joke that simply isn’t that funny or shocking anymore. Rest assured, you will continually see naked women along with monster cock and balls in action pretty much through the entire flick. It’s not to say we weren’t grossed out or laughing at some of the scenes but it’s easy to tell when a movie is simply trying way too damn hard. With all that aside though, i can’t say it was completely horrible because everyone watching was entertained including myself. Once again no one is safe and it’s always fun to watch characters get taken out when you least expect it.

It did have it’s moments (though very few, as did the second one) but it truely lacked the charm, style and look of the first. Suddenly people in the third film can survive with a pipe stuck through their head or walk around with both arms ripped off as if nothing happened for nearly the entire movie. It really didn’t offer anything we haven’t already seen before in the previous, except perhaps the “hybrid” monster / human who is created in a pretty disgusting way. The absolutely atrocious ending made no sense (come to think of it the whole movie didn’t) and it’s clear that nobody invovled in making this movie gives a shit either. I hope this really is the last of the Feast movies. If you have already seen the second one then why not see this one? If you have never seen any of them just go rent the first and stop there. Did i mention in the first one you get to see Henry Rollins fighting monsters in pink sweat pants?
