Well, what can I say…I blog for Universal Dork…does that qualify me as a true, purebred dork? Come on out to Universal Dork and decide. As mild mannered konales, I am a research scientist by day and comic, horror, anime, death metal lovin’ dork by night. Kind of a modern day professional mad scientist (Dr. Jekyll and Hyde)! I am pretty open to all topics and comments. In fact I love to hear for the readers…if you don’t agree or want to be heard, be assure for my posts I love to respond and drum up some dialog. Fear not fellow dorks, there are others out there like you…many in fact. And we are looking to cover topics that you don’t really care about…but love to read about.   • Zombies…Zombies…Everywhere!

    Zombies are popular…right? So I decided to go on a hunt for some of the recent zombie releases and make a blog collecting them to inform our readers…quickly, I realized that zombies have gotten out of hand. This is my testament to the good, the bad, and the dead of the offerings over the last couple years (and upcoming). Oddly enough, I have not seen 75% of these. And since I could hardly sit through half of these trailers…I am sure the movies are much, much worse. If you can stomach it, here is a gut full of the putrid smorgasbord of undead flicks for your enjoyment.

    This goes on forever, so if it takes you a couple days/weeks to make it through all of these trailers, I understand. Just please be thankful of the dedication of this dork to sit through all of them. Yeah, and I am sure I missed like 20 or so…

  • A Bruce-less Bubba Ho-tep Prequel Scores Scrimm!

    I still am bummed that the Bubba Ho-tep prequel “Bubba Nosferatu” will not have Bruce Campbell returning as Elvis. To me it simply makes no sense at all. And what ever happened with Evil Dead 4? Raimi anounced a year ago it was going to happen. It seems if it concerns Bruce these days it’s always pretty up in the air. However Ron Perlman returning as Elvis is good enough for me I suppose.

     It seems that that Bubba Nosferatu is finally getting off the ground and the good news is that horror legend Angus Scrimm will be starring as a Bela Lugosi type character who meets Elvis on the set of a vampire movie in Vegas. (more…)

  • District 9 is an Easy 10!

    This is not an in-depth review of District 9, this blogger is just not going to attempt on this one. Nor do I want to spoil any of the magic. But hear me now!

    Go see District 9 immediately…if you love Sci-Fi, this is hands down one of the best Sci-Fi movie of the last decade.

    Not since Enemy Mine has a movie had such an impact on me. The message of the movie is pretty simple to read from the trailer…but the execution is glorious.

    Yes, there is CG, but it is damn near flawless.

    In the age of remakes, prequels, sequels, re-imagining, or unearthing classics…this is a truly original work of art.

    I can’t say enough about this movie. A 10 out of 10…no question.

  • The Greatest Horror Themed Music Videos!! Megadeth does Shocker!!

    It’s been a while since I’ve found any good Horror themed music videos but I am always on the watch for them. Especially if they are from a good 80’s movie! I realized the other day that I had totally forgotten about about the music video for Wes Craven’s 1989 horror classic “Shocker”. I had been searching Youtube for a while looking for the video for Alice Cooper’s “No More Mr. Nice Guy” and had no luck finding it. Then I realized that though Alice Cooper did the song originally that Megadeth actually performed the movie version. Anyway here the video is in all it’s Mustaine glory!

  • The Rulers of Metal Magic – Bal-Sagoth!

    Alright, let’s just get this straight right now…there is metal, all different genres of metal in fact. You may prefer death, black, doom, speed, or maybe thrash. But when the genre of metal magic comes up, there are notable kings. But the clear dominant force of metal magic (in my humble dork opinion) is none other than the infamous Bal-Sagoth!

  • Get Prepared for the next REAL summer blockbuster!

    So this summer so far we’ve had some blockbusters right? Some downright awesome summer movies that just blew you away?! Ones that you will remember for years to come? I remember the first time I saw Jurassic Park. It literally blew my mind! That was a summer blockbuster alright. I am still totally amused by that movie though I have seen it like a hundred times.

  • The Walking Dead: AMC purchases the rights for a TV series!!

    Finally!!!

    It’s just been announced that the cable network AMC, has purchased the rights to Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, for a potential television series. Already on board for the show are Frank Darabont (Oscar-nominated writer of ‘the Green Mile’ and ‘the Shawshank Redemption’) who’s been hired to write, direct and executive produce, and Gale Anne Hurd, who’s set to executive produce as well.

    This is extremely promising. Besides the notable names already attached, AMC has also been putting out great shows recently like ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Breaking Bad’. They also are responsible for the most popular horror-movie themed marathon on TV today, their annual Fear Fest that shows around Halloween.

    I for one, would love to see it shot in black and white, but that seems unlikely.

  • Real Life Superheroes in the news….

    We had a blog a while back about real life superheroes, so in my late night boredom I decided to see if  any of these guys have been gaining any real publicity. I found a neat little peice that was done recently on the news about them. Though it seems these “superheroes” may not be your modern day Daredevil or Batman, the story was nonetheless amusing. I do wonder if there are any real life masked vigilantes roaming the dark dangerous streets at night? I suppose if there were they probably wouldn’t be showing themselves on The Super Hero Registry sight. Perhaps I’ll do a little digging and see what I can find about masked vigilantes, but in the meantime these guys will just have to do!

  • Opening “The Gate 2” Again!

    I recently re-watched “The Gate 2”, a copy which I purchased off ebay since it’s pretty hard to find at the video store. It had been so long since I had seen this movie I really wasn’t sure what to expect. The first installment is one of the finest 80’s horror flicks having some of the coolest “how’d they do that back then” special effects around. “The Gate 2” likewise, is also a very fun horror flick as well though perhaps not as good as the first.

  • Universal Dork Exclusive: Jabba the Slim Necked Hut!

    You will hear it here first…and only here at Universal Dork!

    Despite popular belief, Jabba the Hut did not die on his sand barge by the Sarlacc pit on Tatooine.  If you remember the accounts of the fateful day, he was believed to be choked to death by the very chains that bound his entertainment, Princess Leia.   But in fact, Jabba was just unconscious and his loyal assistant Salatious Crumb was able to remove the giant from the barge and to safety.

    The only thing that saved Jabba from being choked to death was his extreme girth, especially around his neck.  Jabba was happy that his size played a role in his survival, but shortly after this ordeal, Jabba became a recluse; hiding from all, even the Hut.  Jabba became so concerned with his outward appearance, in particular his neck, that he took matters into his own hands.
