Last night I watched Ink, a intriquing new fantasy by Jamin Winans which was recently released on dvd and brought to mind films like Donnie Darko, Brazil and Dark City. I really wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by it’s truely unique story and visuals.
The basic premise of Ink is that when we sleep at night there are two forces that may visit us, the one who bring us good dreams and of course the ones who deliver nightmares. These forces are often at odds with each other and are ultimately trying to influence our every move in life. Both sides when entering our world are invisible to us and one character, Ink is on a mission for the dark ones to steal the soul of a young girl to gain acceptance into their ranks. The forces of good known as the Storytellers fight to stop this from happening while trying to wake her dead beat dad from his meaningless & mundane daily conciousness to save his daughters soul on the other side.

Thanks for joining Universal Dork for issue #1 of our ‘toons you should sure as hell be watching. For this kick off I want to mention a ’toon that is popular with kids but I quickly overlooked. Fortunately, I am a big enough dork to watch any cartoon I can get my eyes on while working out early in the morning. Well I was blessed to have repeats of Ben 10 showing at the crack of down while sweating it up…and I found it was full of many pleasant surprises. As usual, I encourage you to follow the jump for all of the essential information and this unlikely superhero youth!

Here we go…

Back in 2004, there was an announcement for the ultra awesome limited comic series Global Frequency to be adapted into a TV miniseries. Life could not get any better, right? They even cut a pilot for the WB…and the fans loved it…the studio shit on it! WTF? Oh yeah, they probably had a reality show that was a priority, or maybe something to remake. So it went nowhere unfortunately, but now there are rumblings again that the Frequency will be created and broadcast on the CW. Whoa yeah! So if you are a comic fan…a Warren Ellis fan…or hell, you just like amazing sci-fi stories, I believe this Global Frequency is on your wavelength.

Your pantz full of a load over this? Me too! More details after the jump…

So the big deal all around the world is that New Moon, the sequel to Twilight (like anyone doesn’t know that) is opening this week. Everyone seems to be losing their damn minds over this! My question, what is wrong with everyone?!! Twilight was hands down the WORST vampire movie I have ever seen! It had all the ingredients for the the ultimate shit-fest which is quite an accomplishment really. Terrible acting, an ultra boring story, super incredibly lame vampires that didn’t even have fangs and sparkled, irritating teenagers and terrible unthreatening vampire villains who probably work at Hot Topic on their off-time. But still people seem to think that movie was somehow epic!
Has the general public ever even seen a real vampire movie?! ’30 Days of Night’ was shown in theaters right? Have people never seen Fright Night or Near Dark? I would understand if this series was just popular with teenage girls and guys that may think Robert Pattinson is the bee knees but grown men and women are pumped up for this crap-tastic vampire romance! I’ve heard they are going to have lots of werewolves in this one, I am sure they will find some new way to make werewolves suck even more than vampires!

So I figured since we are already in the mood for Stallone with last blogs update on possible Rambo 5 plotlines-wait, Rambo movies have plots?!! Anyway I just saw the official trailer finally for The Expendables! The all star cast action movie that’s written and directed by Sly himself! This movie is a throwback to 80’s action flicks and is sure to deliver the goods! Lots of explosions, machine guns and one liners! I found out that the trailer has been up now for a week or so but I don’t care-I just saw it for the first time ( plus a couple weeks ago when I checked it was taken down for some reason) and it looks like alot of fun! I still can’t believe Van Damme turned this down-what a shmuck! check it out…

There are a lot of details out on the web right now about the changing course of the new Rambo movie. From this dork’s perspective, as the news developed there was a lot of happiness and a lot of sadness. This has been a roller coaster ride of action and suspense. But it appears that the most recent news is completely inconclusive…is Stallone caving to the pressure of fans and critics…why start now, you made Rambo IV for crying out loud. I believe this would have been a clear signal to film critics and business that you were not really interested in what they think.
So the questions are simple…Stallone…you gonna break?
Fellow dorks…you up to speed on the changing story?
Follow the jump to learn a bit more!
