• It seems there are some rumours flying about legendary Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis apparently getting involved with the new Spider-Man reboot film! This sounds like a step in the right direction right? I must admit I am a HUGE fan of some of Bendis’s work. Particularly his run on Daredevil which was absolutely epic. His Avengers run started out brilliantly but eventually just lost it’s charm and now today I’m not sure just how much I trust his judgement anymore. I better watch my words though here, beacause I see him around town here in Portland, where he resides, regularly riding his bike! That’s not to say he’s not one of the best comic story tellers of current times and I must admit I am quite happy to hear that he’s being involved somehow since he has been writing Ultimate Spider-Man for like a 10 years…

    Bendis Tweeted this recently: (more…)

  • Ok so here’s fight number two of the greatest cartoon brawls! This time it’s He-Man and Skeletor facing off from the ultra-legendary episode called “The Arena”. This time however, Skeletor puts up a pretty good fight since for some reason normally in the cartoon he gets his ass totally served to him in about two seconds by He-Man! I am excited about this since for my recent birthday I recieved He-Man: Season One on dvd.

He-man was all the rage for me when I was a kid (In fact the picture above was a table placemat which of course I ate my food on all the time as a kid!). I had all the bad guys and that’s quite alot if you know anything about the He-man toyline! I didn’t bother too much with the good guys though I did have Stratos, Buzz-Off and Ram-Man. I really just learned from the cartoon that all you really needed was He-man to kick the shit out the bad guys-so why waste mom’s hard earned cash right? It was too bad however, in the cartoon the bad guys though somehow just as muscular as He-Man, were always kinda a bunch of royal pussies! Well here’s Skeletor in rare form when for once he wasn’t being a total wuss!

  • It’s been a LONG time since I have even thought of The Electric Company and I totally forgot that they had a Spider-man segment on the show as well!

Well here’s a classic story from that very show and it features Morgan Freeman too! Oh yeah did I already mention a ridiculous Yeti as well? Check this clip from the early 70’s out! They just don’t make em’ like this anymore!

  • So as a kid and even now as an adult I must admit I am pretty entranced by a good cartoon brawl! So I decided to start a little addition here at Universal Dork where I compile some good cartoon fights! Super heroes, Smurfs, Bugs Bunny Whatever! I just wanna see some good cartoon whoop-ass!! Here it is, the first installment of Epic Cartoon Fights!!!

So naturally I will start with one of the MOST epic battles in cartoon history Optimus Prime Vs. Megatron from the Transformers animated movie! You just know by the music it’s gonna be good! It doesn’t get much better than this but unfortunately this battle saw the end of Optimus as we knew him….

  • If you’re looking for a good epic back issue to pick up along with your new releases on Wednesday look no further! I am recommending one of my all time favorite back issues ever! Of course it’s no secret that I love Alpha Flight! I honestly can’t wait for someone to give it the reboot it needs in the Marvel Universe today. It seems it’s been tried several times and it just never seems to be even  remotely close to as good as the original John Byrne Run. Which leads me to one of my favorite issues from 1984. Alpha Flight # 10!

Of course if you really want the whole story you should really pick up #9 as well but if you wanna cut straight to the action this issue delivers the goods with Byrne’s amazing artwork. (more…)

  • Finally a movie I can really relate too, The Dungeon Masters! Well, we’ll see I guess, but nonetheless a movie centered around the lives of three Dungeon Masters. I guess this movie is showing what the life is like of those who are completely immersed in the culture and subculture of Dungeons & Dragons. How they deal with the real world and the role their fantasy world plays in their every day living. I know that there are groups of people who play D&D religiously almost every day of the week. People who LARP as well every weekend. I do play D&D though at the moment there is no game we’re playing, I am looking forward to the next adventure. I definately look forward to seeing this movie and seeing how different our lives are or maybe how similar they are. I’m also interested to see the game play of the different Dungeon Masters and what kind of game and environment they produce for their players.

I’d say the groups I have played in have been pretty hardcore. Sometimes we’ve dressed up, we play in the basement by candlelight, (more…)

  • It’s a time right now for EVERYTHING nostalgic! That’s right expect the unexpected because from what I understand the Griswalds are slated to return once again to return to Wally World before it closes it’s gates forever. A script is being written for their next Vacation where their son Rusty is taking his family along with his parents back on the road for some more mayhem! The big question now is who they are going to get to be Rusty this time? I personally think it’d be great to see Anthony Michael Hall reprise his role. However I have a feeling that won’t be the case as they probably think they need some star power comedian like Adam Sandler (please no!) or Seth Rogen to fill the spot.

I had a feeling that this was going to become a real posibility when I saw the recent short Hotel Hell: Vacation (more…)

  • I just saw the trailer to a pretty cool looking sci fi monster flick from Australia. The Dark Lurking looks like it’s got a great old school 80’s vibe to it very reminiscent of Aliens. If there’s one thing I am always down for it’s cool moster movie! In The Dark Lurking, a research station one mile beneath the Earth’s surface a horde of ravenous creatures is killing everything they see. 8 survivors are all that remain, running low on ammo, light and hope.

  • I have been saying for quite a while here that I’ve been hoping for some real concrete news on the Captain America movie and finally some has arrived! This is what I have heard so far. First, as we all guessed it’s been confirmed, according to Ain’t it Cool News that The Red Skull will indeed be the villain (duh) and I assume Hitler will be chumming around with him too. Secondly they’re supposedly they are going to make Cap’s costume a bit more like it was in the earlier days I’m guessing like something between the The Ultimates 40’s Cap and current days non Bucky Cap.

Third and most exciting of the news is that Captain America will be joined on the big screen by The Invaders!! (more…)

  • I just read some great news about Ghostbusters 3! Bill Murray has finally confirmed what many people thought was simply a rumour being spread by Sigouney Weaver. After her recent interview where she apparently spilled the beans on Murray indeed being in the third installment and even more strange appearing in the movie as a ghost! Almost immediately after that she took back those comments and suddenly started saying she’d never even read the script! What a flake huh?! So up until now people have really been wondering if Murray was even going to appear in the third film at all. There have been many times Murray admits that he’s really not all that pumped by the idea of a third flick. Good thing he got over it because I am pumped!

He just now confirmed the “rumours” that Sigourney was spreading. (more…)
