• Simple fact, the 1990’s weren’t the best years for the monster movie, and when you think of monster movies it’s almost always a topic of the 1980’s. So I decided to make a list of the top 10 most bad ass monster flicks of the 90’s figuring there MUST be some gems during that era right? I didn’t add any Vampire movies because well they’re just not “monster enough” though “From Dusk ‘Til Dawn” probably should have been at the top of the list. That being said, believe me folks the pickins’ were pretty damn slim for a monster fanatic like myself in the 90’s-most of the best ones came in 1990 it seemed but still there are a few worth your time if you’ve already tapped out the 70’s and 80’s for your monster fix. Here’s what I came up with, if you think I have left out any gems please by all means enlighten me here…

    10. Castle Freak (1995):

Here’s a rad more obscure monster flick from the mid 90’s from Re-animator director Stuart Gordan. Yeah the title speaks for itself as the monster in this movie is truly a perverted freak that hangs out in an old castle!

This one also stars the awesome Jeffery Combs and features a sick twisted monster that bites a lady’s boob off! Gross!! Old school 80’s horror in the 90’s! (more…)

  • The year was 1992 and I gotta admit I had taken a break from playing with toys-though I still kept them all (I still have them all to this day) and still went to the comic book shop every week. However when I look back today at some of the early 90’s toys I have to say there were some pretty great ones on the market! One such toy I remember was Hasbro’s “Monster Face”, as I never really stopped watching cartoons I fondly remember this commercial!

Really monster face was kind of a Fuck You to Mr. Potato head! Back in those days everything was 10 times as rad when you added slime to it-and monster face  oozed some mean ass slime! Seriously had this come out in the mid to even late 80’s I would have been al over that shit-now today I just may have to hunt one down!!

  • In 1987 there was a toy that made me so happy, little monster puppets called Boglins! Back in 87 it was clear that people were going ape shit over movies like Gremlins, Ghoulies, Troll, Critters, The Munchies, Hobgoblins so naturally they had to give us kids what we wanted – The Boglins!!

Little puppets monsters that you take with you anywhere-Check this damn commercial out and remember just how amazing these little monsters were!

  • I am pretty open to watching nearly any horror movie good or bad and I had relatively low expectations for the newly released on DVD film “Camp Hell”. It had some promising elements in it as it took place at a Christian summer camp and supposedly involved demons showing up to wreck havoc on the kids. However that was not quite the case here with this one which also boasted to be based on true events. But first things first, the movies cover has a gigantic picture of Jesse Eisenberg’s (The Social Network, Zombieland) head on the cover and solely his name above the movie’s title. Meaning this one was jam packed with fan favorite Eisenberg……WRONG!!! That’s actually the most funny thing about this movie-he actually only appears in this movie for roughly two god damn minutes! I mean check out this cover below-you can’t possibly get his head any larger on the damn movie cover!

So if you’re a fan of ol’ Jesse you won’t be getting your fix here! But anyway the movie revolves around a boy who’s wacko Christian extremist parents send him off to a wacko Christian extremist camp where the priests there think comic books, rock music, wackin’ off and making out with girls will send you straight to the hot fire pits of Hell! • I just wanted to take a second out to say that the classic red and gold Iron Man still to this days blows the armor off of the new slick movie and comic book versions. I mean he looks like a true super hero here doesn’t he?!

Seriously I have to say I just don’t think this new fancy pants armor is all that cool! I never have-maybe it’s because it looks like he’s going to transform into a Lexus  at any given moment?! Anyway I was just looking at some old school comics the other day and I really miss the  classic  look-if it ain’t broken don’t fix it!!!!

  • So did everyone out there get a good look today at the new Superman today? It seems  the new photo of Henry Cavill as Supes is causing quite a buzz online today. What I am confused about is why these new  movie super heroes seem to be constructing their costumes out of  basketballs?!

Seriously this is the new trend- The new Spider-man also has  a costume constructed from basketballs.

Hmmm….not really all that into that look personally and geezus it’s gotta be hot as shit! This new extreme look for super heroes is actually kinda lame. I have got to be honest, I pretty much can firmly say that all the super hero costumes so far in the movies kinda blow. Even Batman, looks pretty lame with all of his clunky armor even though the movies have been pretty rad. What I will say is that these super hero movies will not age well, honestly I’m not too sure how long they will continue to  keep my attention. They are an amusing watch the first time but  upon second viewing end up being pretty flat and totally plastic. That being said the new Superman looks  more like  a friendlier version of Bizzaro. It appears as if Superman has been given the Chris Nolan dark hero look which personally doesn’t really work for me….

  • I don’t know what got me started today but I am on a rabid hunt for one of the most rad 80’s series of all time “Manimal”!! What you don’t remember that one? Of course not it was only on for like 3 months before they cancelled that shit way back in1983! What the hell is a Manimal you ask? Well it’s a rad doctor dude who pretty much has everything going for him and then add on top of it one other interesting quality….he can turn into any damn animal he wants to at will! How rad is that?!

Well apparently people back in 1983 were brain dead because the little bits and peices I did remember of the show were even more mindblowing upon watching them on Youtube today! They pretty much show him transforming into all kinds of intense animals, for instance check Manimal out as he transforms into a fucking falcon below!

How cool was that? Yeah and pretty much every tranformation is like five minutes long, and the funny thing is is that when he transforms back into a “man” he has all of his damn clothes on everytime! What the hell? He seems to suffer the same condition as Bruce Banner did in the 80’s cartoon-everytime he changed back he had all his clothes on too-and they were like brand spankin’ new! So I have been on a hunt for it today as I’d like to get the whole series and bring the Pilot “Movie” to a bad movie night-as It would be bound to be a hit. Watch here as he transforms into a damn snake!

And check this out as he turns into a bad ass panther! Even the tigers and lions are like WTF?!!

From what I understand special effects wizard Stan Winston was behind the transformations-no wonder why they rule so hard! Anyway I am really hoping the series gets released soon on dvd, why they cancelled this show is beyond me….never forget….MANIMAL!!

  • So it’s apparent now that Marvel is going to keep cranking out super hero movies and I am certain one of their next films is gonna be Dr. Strange! What a lot of people don’t know is that they already gave Stephen a go way back in 1978!

The results well as you can guess it was not quite what you would call a memorable film to say the least! This was actually a pilot that aired on CBS way back when. It seems Marvel was trying for another hit like The Hulk series-which to this day is still totally rad! I don’t care what anyone says Lou Ferrigno is still a much better Hulk than any of these CG versions. So check out this clip and see why this show never made it into a real television series….

  • Here’s a picture today that’s bound to put a smile on any true Alphan’s face! No folks these are not action figures these are real people. Check this out-not too shabby but what the hell is up with Sasquatch?! Rad!

  • So it seems that LARPing is getting some real props lately in the world of movies. The new trailer for “Knights of Badassdom” continues this trend on the silver screen. Let’s admit it LARPing is an easy thing to poke fun at, personally I have never really done it in the traditional sense but never rule it out. Between movies like Role Models and The Wild Hunt and now this one I can only imagine that it’s going to get a lot more popular. Soon there will be college frat boys everywhere donning armor and foam swords  while hosting a kegger in the park. Hey you never know!

Anyway this movie looks like way too much fun, as do all the LARP inspired films so far(hey people it’s probably a blast!). It’s got Steve Zahn and Peter Dinkage ( the most handsome little guy around) who I love from “The Station Agent” (if you have never seen this check it out it’s an awesome movie) teaming up to kick some succubus ass. Can’t wait til’ this one is released. Check out the synopsis and trailer if you haven’t already.. (more…)
