Universal Dork

The Most Unsuccessful Blog on the 'Net Since 2009!

  • Warhammer 40k was my preferred role playing game growing up but it was slow to catch on. But now looking back, Warhammer 40k has persevered and definitely built quite the niche/cult following. The high appeal of the RTS games Dawn of War did not hurt at all. Without a doubt, it was my favorite universe. I loved the look and feel, the fact that there was only War! The Space Marines were the baddest ass mo-foe’s in the universe and along with Eldar, Imperial Guard, Space Orks, and many more…the races, tech, and weapons just reeked of battle. But one thing always was on my mind that would be the cherry on the top of the sundae, a movie. Well hold on to your seat fellow dorks, cause sometimes dream do come true!

  • Well, on the surface this is actually not that bad of a horror/haunting thriller. But if you are looking for something with substance and a well developed plot…look elsewhere. The Unborn (just coming to DVD) was released earlier this year, and the trailers piqued my interest a bit. Unfortunately, I did not catch it on the silver screen…so I threw ‘er on the Netflix queue and waited. Read on to learn more! Achtung! Spoiler Alert! I will be ripping on aspects of this movie that might take away from your viewing experience…although I doubt it.

  • I was on Empire Online today and saw some pretty cool images of the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans. I know, another remake RIGHT?!! Clash of the Titans was a classic so they better put some care into this film. What I have heard so far is that they are not paying any homage to Ray Harryhausen and his stop motion brilliance. Is this a good thing? My feeling is probably not since it will most likely be a CG shit fest! But the images which I’ve seen thus far actually look pretty damn cool. I have also read that this will be a much grittier film with Perseus being much more of a badass. The fate of this movie remains to be seen but what I always do welcome is another fanatsy film to look forward to until The Hobbit comes out! Hey if anyone can reccomend me a good one in the time being please do I’m all ears. What do you think of these new pics?

  • I don’t know about everyone else but I personally pumped about the the latest Tony Jaa film “Ong Bak 2” arriving in theaters here on the 23rd of October. If you’ve never seen his movies then you are in for a real treat-especially if you like an amazing martial arts film that doesn’t rely on CG or wires! He is easily the most impressive martial arts star of our time. Like Jackie Chan he does all of his won stunts as well yet I feel may have already outshined him on many different levels already.

  • I was sitting today at work bored off my ass when I read cool article in the Willamette Week weekly paper. Apparently you can pay to live a real life zombie apocalypse for a weekend! Sounds pretty rad huh? Well this was such a great idea I can’t believe I didn’t think of it a long time ago. Apparently you can camp out in the wilderness with replica guns and live out the dream of being feasted upon by the undead right here in Oregon! It’s actually a more of a game where you of course can be turned into a zombie as well. Your gun fires bb’s and you and your team try to survive the weekend. While being hunted!

  • I just read an interview with Robert Kirkman on The Walking Dead Tv series today at Mtv.com. I am really hoping they can pull the grit from the comic book onto the tv screen. It’s obviously a major concern of many people. Even though in the interveiw Kirkman claims the comic book does not rely on gore it still should be noted that he pushes the limit far beyond what’s normally seen on television in the series.

Either way I am pumped to see how well this show turns out & here is some of what Mtv had to report in the interview:

  • There were rumors flying a couple months ago all over the internet about the possibiltiy of Arnold Schwarzenegger appearing in the upcoming  Robert Rodriquez produced  sequel “Predators”. Well now it has been officially confirmed that Arnold will indeed be  repirsing his role in a cameo as Dutch. This news was leaked via The Latino Review  (make sure to check this link and watch their video about the script) who aquired a 90 page script of the action movie. The script they claimed was  “Worthy of the original Predator”. They also confirmed  there is a cameo  written in for Schwarzenegger that will make fans go wild. Hopefully that means arnold has got a gigantic gun in his hands and telling people to get to the chopper!

  • Well it’s definately feeling as if the summer has come to an end here in Portland. Even though it’s not cold out yet there’s just something in the air that feels different. The summer of 2009 for me was a bit of a dull experience  & one thing I should have was headed back to my home state of Wisconsin. Beleive it or not there is alot of cool things to do there besides drink beer and eat cheese. Of course while doing all of these other cool things it’s kinda a requirement to be drinking beer and eating cheese as well at the same time. You know from my previous blog I would have once again tried to solve the mystery of the legendary ghostly Paulding Light & I would have most definately headed to Wisconsin Dells too. Never heard of it? Well It’s essentially an entire theme park city with the biggest & most water slides in the entire country! But there’s more on the city streets, there’s the wax museums, Ripley’s believe it or not museum, haunted houses, robot world, the wisconsin duck rides, water skiing shows, roller coasters ect. ect. and  it’s pretty much the best place to be during the hot humid Wisconsin summers.

There’s another bizarre place I would have visited as well which is the main reason why I write this,  that’s pretty close by the Dells in a city called Spring Green. The epic “House on the Rock“! (more…)
