A Universal Dork’s True Ghost Story!

It’s almost Halloween and it’s time to tell some ghost stories! Well the best ghost stories of them all are the ones that really happened! So i figured I might as tell one that happened to me about 2 years ago. Mind you it’s really the only real ghostly encounter I’ve ever had except for the unexplainable Paulding Light which I blogged right here about sometime ago. Keep in mind too that I’m a bit of a skeptic when it comes to ghosts.

Well this true story happened near the Grand Canyon at a little motel near the woods called “The Canyon Moteloff of Route 66 near Williams AZ, which had cool train cars you could stay in as well as a few small cabins. I was on a family vacation with my parents, my brother, his wife and their daughter and ended up staying in a cabin with my parents in a separate room that closed off from the rest. It was the first night there and I had a glass or two of wine in my cozzy little room and watched movies on my tv (one of my fav things to do at motels) which was mounted up high on the wall. About 1 am I started to get pretty tired besides we’d been driving all day and you know how it can get sometimes when you are traveling with the whole family!

Anyway I remember before I had went to sleep that I had positioned myself on the bed in an odd way laying horizontally across the bed as to see the tv better since I’m not a huge fan of laying on my back. I turned off the tv and slowly drifted off to a slumber. For some reason I woke up around 3 am and for me when I wake at night it often takes me a while to fall back asleep. So there I layed with my eyes open for about five minutes just staring at the wall ahead thinking about seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time the next morning.

Soon then I decided I needed some water and began to sit up when I noticed in front of me, which was actually the right side of the bed, a lightly illuminated figure with it’s arms raised in the air hunched over the bed. When I first saw it I was startled but immediately my logic thinking it must be my coat hanging on chair or SOMETHING. But as I sat there completely silent staring closely at it for a a few more seconds it was clearly no coat but a looming figure at least 6 feet tall in either some sort of cloak or gown. I immediately panicked and having slept on the bed in an awkard spot I could not for the life of me find where the lamp was! I kept peering over my shoulder as I frantically searched for the night stand. It was still there! As I finally grasped onto the lamp I looked at the figure for a second as it began quickly stepping away from my bed toward the wall. The I turned light on and it was gone. The rest of the night I slept with the light and tv on. I at one point had considered waking my parents up and sleeping on the couch in their room. The next morning I told my family of this encounter and even so I was convinced it just must have been my imagination. As the week passed there were no more sightings in my cabin yet my family had been joking about the ghost the rest of the stay there.

Finally on our last day at The Canyon Motel I had hopped into the rental car with my brother and his family. As we waited in the car my brother went to return the room key. When he returned he had a bewildered look on his face. He jumped into the car and said “the ghost you saw, it was real”. He then went onto explain that the owner told him this motel was indeed haunted and had many people there that had reported ghostly sightings mainly however in the haunted caboose. He also went on to explain that people from the tv show Ghost Hunters had just recently been there researching the phenomenon. He asked what room it happened in and then documented my sighting. I left the Grand Canyon that day with a new perspective on life and things that go bump in the night…..

One of my all-time favorite Peter stories – I’m glad it’s now officially out in the world for everyone else to enjoy!
