• I haven’t been online in a couple days and was just informed by my friend at The Offical Star Trek Convention myspace page that Ricardo Montalban passed away Wednesday. He was 88. Ricardo was most famous for his role of “Khan Noonen Singh” who he first played in the 1967 Star Trek episode “The Space Seed” (one of the all-time best) and later reprising that role in one of sci-fi’s greatest movies, “Star Trek 2: the Wrath of Khan”. Ricardo was also a star of one of my all time favorite TV shows “Fantasy Island” where he played the role of the legendary “Mr. Rourke”. You will be missed Mr. Montalban…

  • The only thing i don’t quite get is why wood beats water?!

  • While everyone is all up a an early-90’s-like investment frenzy over the latest issue of Amazing Spider-Man #583 featuring Obama, the real news lies in the combination of lazy-artist extraordanaire Rob Liefeld and our soon-to-be-inaugurated president Obama in issue #8 of the recently revived Youngblood title.

Check out his amazing rendition on the cover of the latest Youngblood:

  • New JLA, err sorry, Justice League of AMERICA writer Bill Willingham opines on the decline of ‘the American way’ in today’s comics on the newly launched conservative blog Big Hollywood. The full article and accompanying comments (which are a must read in themselves) can be found right here.

  • I was just thinking about some of the greatest Wolverine stories of all time and this amazing X-Men issue was the first that came to mind. This one came out in 1986 and was a stand alone issue by Chris Claremont & Barry Windsor Smith. This is truely classic Wolverine at it’s best and this one has stuck in my head since i was a kid for many reasons.

First i had never seen an X-Men comic that was this violent i am surprised that is got the comics code approval in 1986. It’s filled with blood and guts. Barry Windsor Smith draws a haunting wintery landscape in which Wolverine is running for his life (which doesn’t happen too often you must admit) and his only hope is Power Pack’s own Katie Powers. They are being pursued by a truely terrifying Lady Deathstrike (her first appearance with her cybernetic body)-the BEST i have ever seen her drawn and how she should have appeared in the X-Men 2 movie.

This raw gritty 80’s comic gem came out before Wolverine even had his own series. It shows him beaten down and vulnerable, which is a rare event in comics now days when he can get his entire body burned dry from his skeleton and still be kickin’. This makes me wonder where Barry Windsor Smith has been all this time? My vote is to get him on the Wolverine title in 2009!! If you are at the comic shop any time soon go comb the back issue section for this! I have heard this stand alone was the inspiration to give Wolvie his own title in 1988.

  • Check out this old photo of me.

Not much has changed except how much better the toys were back when i was a kid! “Gor” From the Super GI Joe series by Hasbro was one of my faves and next to him “Stretch Monster” the ultimate nemesis of “Stretch Armstrong”. You can clearly see how much i loved these two green monsters! Too bad my brother tore Stretch Monster apart revealing his sticky gooey insides-man i am not sure if i will ever recover from that one…

  • I don’t need a film to tell me not to get into a car with a guy that looks like John Waters (unless it’s John Waters).

Hey, to be fair, the guy did give him a ride home, he owed him a handy at least.

  • The Holidays are over and it’s time to shed a few pounds. I really hope this works…

  • Fans of the Marvel comic The Twelve received some dissapointing news from Joe Quesada this week:

“What’s going on with The Twelve?

THE TWELVE has momentarily become a casualty of the success of its creative team. First JMS became one of the most sought after writers in Hollywood following the release and success of the film he wrote, CHANGELING.Then, Chris Weston signed on to do conceptual art and storyboarding for a completely separate film project at around the same time! So for the moment, while they stick pick away at it, THE TWELVE is on hold until such time as Joe and Chris free up from their incredibly hectic schedules. ”

Wow. Count me among the bummed.

  • Well, it might not be sanctioned by either Marvel or DC, but this is a pretty great paring of 2 great superheroes.  I have never seen dance moves like this preformed whilst saving innocent victims from peril.  So Awesome.

It’s awesome that they gave Superman the power to become “semi-transparent” while he flys, and… Spider-Girl can fly too.  Yeah.
