• Portland Oregon’s very own Red Fang have learned the hard way that it is very difficult to beat LARPers (Live Action Roll Players) at their own game, even if you prepare by making some sweet armor out of beer cans.  Check out their schenanagans.

This awesome video was directed by Whitey McConnaughy, who seems to always do great work.

  • Today was a day unlike any other.

For the last year or so, I have been determined to collect and read the entire West Coast Avengers run. Well, a stop at the Goodwill yielded about 30% of it.

That’s right, I found issues #7-45 (save the issues that I already had, like John Byrne’s Vision Quest Arc) along with a dozen other gems such as the complete run of 1986-87’s Comet Man, Some Black Widow goodness courtesy of Marvel Fanfare, some X-Tinction Agenda issues as well as a couple of Typhoid Mary’s early Daredevil appearances!!

This store (off McLaughlin just outside of Portland), had 3 long boxes full of 1980’s goodness. Many interesting DC titles (that confuse me but are probably great reads) and even a copy of The Dark Night Returns.

At .49 a copy, I felt like I was robbing them, I’ve had a smile on my face all day since!

  • Wow, recently I was turned on to a great music video by some guy I had never heard of named “Chris Dane Owens“.  A friend of mine sent me this video as a joke and I have to say it is pretty funny.  But then I took a closer look at it and all of a sudden I was really into it and borderline obsessing over it.  I watched the video over and over.  The catchy faux funk baseline over some epic, drawn out guitar lines and vocal melodies had me hooked.  But what had me more hooked was the story-line, A FANTASY ADVENTURE starring himself, a lady, a Dr. Doom type villain, several groups of 3 hot ladies, his knife throwing buddy, another buddy, an older buddy, and a fleet of fire welding dragons.  Take a look for yourself.

This video now gets me all stoked like watching Lord of the Rings.  But what can I say, I’m a sucker for fantasy adventure stories, especially when they involve medieval funk grooves.  Who is this “Chris Dane Owens”?  I did a little research and this is what I found out. (more…)

  • Hey it’s time to look back on all of the horror films i saw in theatres or released on dvd in 2008 and decide which ones were the coolest! Keep in mind i have not yet seen “Let the Right One In” yet or “Splinter” which i hear were pretty rad-so it’s very possible those could enter the top 10. So let’s get down to business!!!

    10. The Cottage: This was a surprisingly great horror comedy starring Andy Serkis (LOTR’s Golem). A cool gory fast paced tale of 2 criminals buffoons who kidnap the daughter of an underground kingpin holding her for ransom in a cottage in the farmland. What ensues is a comedic bloodbath when they realize they’re tresspassing on a hulking mutated rednecks land. Fans of “Shaun of the Dead” and “Severance” will be all over this one. A fun gory romp!

  • So if this is not proof that Hordak was the coolest thing to happen to Masters of the Universe i don’t know what is!! Really now, in the 80’s was there anything as rad as the Horde Slime Pit? I mean you could only watch Slimer “slime” people on the Ghostbusters and dream you could get slimed one day on Nickelodeon’s “You Can’t Do That On Television”. So when this Slime pit came out i think every kid in America nearly lost their goddamn minds! Hordak i love you but did you really have to bring along She-Ra with you to the Masters of the Universe?

  • StarWars.com has recently revealed the cover for their Halloween ’09 horror release: Deathtroopers

    dthtrprs

Although, details on what exactly it’s about remain unknown (and likely will until Comic Con), the cover has me super-excited. Horror has long been a missing ingredient from the Star Wars universe. A universe where “blast-marks” are, for the most part, our only evidence of death at another’s hands.

I’m also loving the cover’s suggestion of this being set around original trilogy era, rather than yet another prequel trilogy yarn. Kudos to the neck-guts and cords coming out the bottom of the helmet!

  • So do you like Bruce Campell? No, do you REALLY like Bruce Campell? If the answer to this question is yes then you will LOVE “My Name is Bruce”. I was lucky enough to catch this film sunday evening right here in a tiny little indie theater here in Portland, OR. The plot is simple. Some teenagers (who just happen to be big Evil Dead fans sporting Bubba Ho-Tep shirts) are out horsing around in the cemetary one foggy evening trying to get laid. They accidentally set free from it’s tomb a Chinese monster “Guan di” who who’s dead set on decaptitating everyone in site and protecting bean curd. What’s the solution to the problem? Why kidnapping Bruce Campell and bringing him to town to defeat the evil monstrosity of course!

  • Ah…yeah…um…ok…check THIS out! Tell me if you can understand exactly what is going on here….

  • It just dawned on me how much i loved the Micronauts action figures when i was a kid! They were so cool with their interchangeable see through body parts and i remember having Robotman as well. You could put a micronaut in his chest, take him apart and turn him into a giant drill that moved on its own or even make him walk! Funny though, mine never threw giant boulders though-like the one in the commercial…check out these out- and notice how “Time Traveler” poses-what a fancy devil!
