Aragorn Get’s Life in ‘PRISON’!
The totally awesome and long forgotten “Prison” from 1988 has finally gotten a proper DVD release! This little gem of a movie is a real 80’s treat jam packed with cool effects, gore and some great actors to boot! Viggo “Lord of the Rings” Mortensen stars in this supernatural horror romp as a prisoner ordered to knock down a wall to an execution room where a former convict died for a crime he didn’t commit. Well as you can imagine this releases his angry spirit into a path of pure mayhem throughout the prison walls. Apparently this movie features real ex-cons too adding to it’s “realism”.
It’s been a long time since i have seen this flick but I am sure as hell looking forward to revisiting it! This one was directed by Renny Harlin who is also responsible for movies like ‘Die Hard 2’, ‘Nightmare on Elm St 4: The Dreammaster’, ‘The Adventures of Ford Fairlane’ (uggh remember that one with The Dice Man?) and that terrible prequel from the Exorcist from 2004 just to name a few. But all that aside, check out the trailer and look for it as it was released Feb. 19th on Blu-Ray/DVD via Shout Factory.
The Hobbit’s Animal Cruelty Allegations-What are the Facts?
This has got to be some of the most unsettling movie news I have heard in a long, long time. Allegations of major animal cruelty have been cast upon Peter Jackson and his crew while filming the first installment of the mega blockbuster ‘The Hobbit’ just over two weeks before the film’s set to debut here in the United States. This is terrible news as this movie has been one of my most anticipated if not most anticipated films for years.
Peter Jackson has been a favorite of mine since ‘Bad Taste’ and The Lord of the Rings trilogy being one of my top 3 favorite films ever. But The Hobbit is being blamed for twenty seven animal deaths some being horses goats and chickens. Here’s what I has been reported so far via Huffington Post:
“Animal wranglers involved in the making of “The Hobbit” movie trilogy say the production company is responsible for the deaths of up to 27 animals, largely because they were kept at a farm filled with bluffs, sinkholes and other “death traps.”
The American Humane Association however, which is overseeing animal welfare on the films, says no animals were harmed during the actual filming. But it also says the wranglers’ complaints highlight shortcomings in its oversight system, which monitors film sets but not the facilities where the animals are housed and trained.”
Jackson and the films producers reject these accusations saying that no animals were mistreated during the filming of the Hobbit. This however may be true but where the animals were housed at, a farm nearby, is where these animals died. Apparently the farm was wasn’t fenced properly and the bluff and sinkholes are where many of the animals died. There were also reports of chicken maulings by dogs and many instances were due too poor oversight of the animals. There have also been allegations that the animals feed was causing deaths as well.
Several stars of the film like Elijah Wood claim that this is merely a reaction from angry wranglers who were let go from the film trying sabotage the release. He claims he never witnessed any animals being harmed. However I really doubt Elijah was hanging out at the farm where they were kept too often.
It seems to me that this story has been kept thus far for the most part incredibly quiet, I only heard about it first last night and the story broke almost a week and a half ago. It could be the studio keeping it as hush hush as possible as to not deter people from seeing the movie. Or maybe I am just out of the loop. Personally this is a story I want to follow as it does affect my decision of supporting the movie. This films budget was over $500 million dollars, I can’t believe that Jackson and crew were unable to keep these animals safe, because at the end of the day at least 27 animals died due to being involved with this movie. Protests of the movie’s premiere are already being organized all over the world. What do you think? Could this affect whether you see The Hobbit?
Freeman Looking Great as the Hobbit!
Here’s a great new pic just released today from the upcoming Hobbit movie due out next December 2012, it’s a simple picture of Martin Freeman as the Younger Bilbo Baggins and all I can really say is get me the HELL back to Middle Earth as soon a possible! It seems us ‘Rings’ fans are getting exactly what we want, with Peter Jackson completing the story and here seeing how perfect Freeman looks in the role of Bilbo…
In the meantime thought check out these live clips way back from 1990, for this live performance of the Hobbit done by The Children’s Theater Company of Minneapolis MN, Pretty damn bad ass!
Boromir & The Medievil Apocolyspe!!
Well it’s good tohave some movies to look forward to that you’re turely pumped about! It seems that there hasn’t been much out there in the way of fantasy flicks to to get really excited about. Epecially since Clash of the Titans turned out to be such a disappointment and the recent news of Del Toro leaving The Hobbit high and dry has been a pretty big blow of disappointment. But fear not! There’s another movie I think fantasy fans should get pretty stoked on!
The Black Death is an upcoming supernatural thriller set during the times of the black plague as a band of warriors led by a monk quest a sorceror who’s rumored to be able to bring the dead back to life. Continue reading
Guillermo Del Toro Leaves The Hobbit!!!! Dammit!!!
What the SHIT!!!! So news is apparrently that Guillermo Del Toro has officially quit The Hobbit!! This has got to be some sort of nightmare that I just can’t seem to wake from! But I assure you that this is the sad truth as he told TheOneRing.net flat out that he’s just too damn tired of waiting to make this shit happen!! Well guess what? I’m pretty fucking tired of waiting for this shit to happen too!!! Apparently he can’t seem to commit to spending six years in New Zealand as he has been facing a boat load of delays on the project and was only signed on to be there originally for three years. It’s no wonder he split as they don’t even have a god damn Bilbo Baggins cast yet! Ok guys I have been holding back a bit on saying this but seriously….GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER ALREADY! JEEEZUS! I must say I too have been wondering what the hell these guys have been doing for the last few years myself-I mean really the damn story has already been written-GET ON WITH IT ALREADY!
Anyway this is what he had to say about it: Continue reading
Peter Jackson Finally Returns….
The new trailer for peter Jackson’s first movie since King Kong has finally been released. Based on the best selling book by Alice Sebold, “The Lovely Bones” follows the story of a young girl who has been murdered as she watches over her family and her killer from heaven. I have never read the book but the movie trailer looks interesting. Reminding me perhaps a bit of his work on “Heavenly Creatures”. It’s not exactly what I would have prefered to be his next work but I will most definately give it a watch. Oh yeah it looks like Mark Wahlberg is in this one too starring as the same character he was from M. Night Shyamalan’s snoozer “The Happening”. Great….
