Punktendo: Play Nintendo as Classic Punk Icons?
So it looks like someone decided that it’d be cool to recreate some of the classic Nintendo games with punk icons in the roles of your favorite video game characters. I guess this is kinda neat, a bit random & pointless maybe but still an interesting twist. You can play these games for free on Punktendo.com.
You can play as Milo of The Descendents in “Milo-fu”, you can play as the fan punching Fat Mike in a game of Golf, You can be Danzig in Mega Man or you can be Mikey Erg (not quite a punk icon, but maybe the creator’s friend?) in Super Mario Bros. as well as a few other non punk games like “Gay Popeye” etc.
I’d have been a bit more pumped if these games had more original concepts behind them, like a nerd revenge game with “Milo in Milo in College” taking on jock bullies would be a fun one. If anything though these are worth a play or two just for kicks- check it out! Oh yeah and this happened a day or so ago, Fat Mike kicked the shit out of one of his fans at a NOFX show who jumped on stage to sing along to one of his fave tunes! now this could be a great video game concept- Fat Mike’s ‘Fan Attack’! In the video game happy NOFX fans could storm the stage in joy and you could control Fat Mike as he beats their asses to a pulp!! I’m thinking kinda like Robotron: 2084 maybe? Damn I should be making these games-they’d be a helluva lot more interesting!!
Take me back to 1985! Yie Ar Kung FU!!!
Yes please take me back to 1985! Back when arcade games were super rad and fun to play! I know all of you out there think XBOX with it’s fancy ass graphics is the shit but you know what? I am a nerd, true, but I haven’t gotten sucked into these new video games! The closest I got was a few years back when I played the Nintendo Game Cube a couple times a week! I have to say X-Men Legends was a fun game, Baldur’s Gate was a blast too but you know I just never could get sucked into these ultra violent games that people spend their lives playing today. Instead I think about going to the arcade back in the day and playing my favorite fighting game, “Yie Ar Kung Fu”!
Many may be wondering what the hell I am talking about? Well back when I was a kid we’d spend a lot of time at our cottage in Northern Wisconsin and my brother and I would head to a tiny arcade in a laundromat in the tiny city of Elcho. We be there for one game Konami’s Yie Ar Kung Fu was the best fighting game! You played a sort of Bruce Lee like character named Oolong who well spends his time kicking a lot of ass through ten different bad ass foes armed with dangerous fans, clubs and tonfun.
I haven’t played this game in decades but somehow today I found myself wishing I could find a stand up version somewhere-Believe me I would be playing for hours if I did. This has really gotten me to thinking that the whole idea of arcades should come back with similar style stand up games. Someone out there needs to make some new version old school games in the old format-at the end of the day I just don’t have time to screw with a controller with like twenty buttons on it-just give me a roller ball and a button like centipede and I am a happy camper….
Castlevania the Movie!
Let me first start of by saying that Castlevania was probably the BEST game EVER for the NES! There were obviously some other really good ones but I will have to say this game pretty much blew my damn mind as a kid! I was the first one to beat the damn game too of any kid or teen in my whole neighborhood! My friend Dave Park (My NES partner in crime back then) and I liked it sooo much that when I beat it we were recording the final battle I had with Dracula on a VHS tape! Yeah you could do that back then. I almost lost my mind when I beat Dracula and then he suddenly turned into that HUGE white demon-then I had to kick it’s ass too! Anyway you can tell it was pretty epic for me and I still think I am some kinda video game hotshot still because of that.
Well it turns out that they are making a “Castlevania” movie now. I am not sure about you but I don’t think that video game movies have ever turned out that good. I guess Resident Evil had some promise but really these movies end up to be clunkers. Unless this movie has all the camera angles from the side view and all the bosses from the original game it just might as well not be made! The Simon Belmont better have a whip, some crosses and big jugs of holy water to toss too. Ok I admit maybe I am being a little too picky.
