You wanna have superhuman strength? You wanna fly high above buildings? You wanna have the indestructible claws of Wolverine? Well I’m gonna let you in on a little secret-you CAN have superhuman powers every night with a little commitment and perseverance. Now of course there is a slight catch, you’ve got to get serious about your dreams! But not just any old regular dream, learn to ‘Lucid Dream‘ every night. I’ve spent some of my nights transforming into The Incredible Hulk and smashing up whole cities, I’ve flown high in the sky with birds like Superman and I’ve also popped those adamantium claws Wolverine made famous from my knuckles. It was unbelievable, but it’s all true and I chose to do it all myself while fully conscious!
First though let me explain, ever since I was in my late teens I began to have lucid dreams and in the past year began to get more serious about it all. This here is the key to all this madness. So to anyone out there who doesn’t know what a lucid dream is let me give you a proper definition,
“A lucid dream is any dream during which the dreamer becomes aware that they are dreaming. During lucid dreaming, the dreamer may be able to exert some degree of control over the dream, dream characters, narrative, and environment.”
Chances are you may have already had dreams like this in the past and didn’t quite realize it was something special or maybe you’ve never even realized this was possible? Remember ‘Dreamscape’ with Dennis Quaid? Or ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors’? Well it’s just like that except it’s easy to kick Freddy’s ass in a real lucid dream. And truth be told anyone can be a lucid dreamer all it takes is a little practice and focus. Also keep in mind a vivid dream is not a lucid dream. But a lucid dream is a vivid dream. Let me be clear here, once you experience your first real lucid dream you’re likely to never really be the same again.
Even more so, recently I’ve begun to focus on lucid dreaming a bit every day of my life. I’ve now begun to be able to control my dreams, create dream characters and really do anything that my mind can dream up quite often. Some of these lucid dreams are just as real as anything you can experience in the waking world, it all really depends on how seriously you want to delve into it. One thing I can guarantee is that it’s most definitely worth the effort. In many ways it might change the way you see life and reality altogether.
Now I’m sure you’re probably thinking of the movie ‘Inception’ and to be honest it’s a bit like that in reality, just a little more interesting and fun actually. I thought that movie was a pretty weak version of just how amazing lucid dreams can really be. So listen up here are a few basic tips to get you on the right path to becoming fully aware in your dreams and becoming closer to developing your own superhuman powers!
This is step one, every morning write down anything that you can remember from you dreams the night before. The first key is being able to accurately recall your dreams. So this is very important and upon awaking you might want try and focus your thoughts on your dreams. Many times I won’t even fully open my eyes until I’ve attempted to recall my dreams and if you try to recall them after getting up and out of bed you’re usually risking the dreams fading from memory. Also before bed it’s a good idea to repeat over and over to yourself “tonight I will remember my dreams”. It really begins to work if you stick with it and you’ll likely notice your dreams will become more vivid. There’s a ton of cool apps for your phone too with built in dream journals to make it much easier. I use an app called “Awoken” and it’s actually helped a lot especially in the beginning.
This one is pretty important, during the daytime when anything unusual happens ask yourself “am I dreaming”? I usually then hold my hands in plain view and count my fingers, oddly if you try and count your fingers in a dream you almost always have more or less than five fingers. The result will hopefully be that in a dream you will do the same thing and it will be the trigger that let’s you know you are indeed dreaming! People will also do things like hold their nose and try and breathe, as in a dream you will still be able to breathe or try and push your hand through a wall, in a dream your hand will likely push through with some effort. Also again those free lucid dreaming apps for your phone will send you notifications to remind you to do reality checks during the day.
Talk, read and think about Lucid Dreaming
This is simple and it really works. If you are really interested in Lucid Dreaming then do the research. There are a ton of awesome videos on youtube, articles online, websites and books about it and the more it’s on your mind’s radar the more the possibility is that you will wake up inside your own dreams! Just thinking about the subject makes the odds way more in your favor to succeed. Often times at night when we dream our mind reflects a lot of what we think about during our waking hours, chances are if you’re thinking about having a lucid dream then the subject will in some way shape or form begin to appear in your dreams naturally.
Use that bathroom break to your advantage
This has been a vital step in my lucid dreaming journey. I like many others almost always wake up once to take a pee after sleeping for 4 or 5 hours. What many people don’t know is that we dream really heavy during the last 2 or 3 hours of sleep during the REM stages. So if you wake like I do when you get back into bed instead of going right back to sleep focus on lucid dreaming or say something like “In my dreams I will become aware I am dreaming” over and over until you fall back asleep. If you are really focused the chances of a lucid dream occurring are pretty damn good!
I’ve had many this way and if you wanna get even more serious about it sit up for about a half hour after your late night pee break and read a comic book or something before you go back to sleep and then focus again on the intent to become lucid in your dreams. This increases your chances even more to become aware during the REM state. This makes it much less likely that you just fall back to sleep immediately and be more focused on the intention to become lucid. Those early morning hours are when the magic is in the air, using this technique has also led to some truly incredible unexplainable experiences for me personally that begin to move more in the realm of astral projection and Out of Body Experiences. But I will save that for a future installment.
Ok for now that should be enough to get you started, but there really are so many more techniques and info out there. The world of Lucid Dreaming is truly fascinating and it’s true, you will be able to do almost anything you desire with some practice. The key is to not give up. I can tell you first hand that once you experience a true lucid dream it changes the way you see the world and can often change YOU forever. Some of these lucid dreams are more realistic than waking life which leads me to ultimately question of what reality really is. Every night there is an incredible world we can all explore, we have to sleep so why not live a real adventure every night!
