Ok movie fans I hope you can understand how hard it is sometimes to try and find a damn new release to watch when you’re completely spent on everything that’s been released recently. Sometimes when you’re at the video store you just gotta take a chance on a movie you’re sure is gonna be a dud. That’s where a movie like “The New Daughter” starring Waterworld superstar Kevin Costner comes into the equation. I walked around the video store for about a half hour before finally deciding the newest direct to video thriller starring Kevin Costner was going to be what me and my bottle of wine would sit and probably fall asleep to the other evening.
Yeah my friday night consisted of drying my laundry at the laundromat, drinkin’ wine alone and giving good old Costner another chance. I was curious too, has Costner even been in a theatrically released movie in the past 5 years?? Well anyway it didn’t matter as I was ready to get drunk and watch a timid generic thriller and probably dose off.
Anyway I will say the movie indeed started off like the usual PG-13 thriller, Cos moves to a new home with his son and daughter and not long after she begins to act strangely after hearing whispers in the new house. It was totally on parin the begining with Dragonfly, which I think was the closest thing Costner has done to a horror movie. However very soon in the film I was pleasantly surprised when outside the girls room, we hear a creepy moan and then we get a glimpse of a monster crawling around on their roof!! (more…)

BODY TROOPERS, AKA: CHASING THE KIDNEYSTONE (Idsoe, 1996)
A decade after Joe Dante made INNER SPACE, a Norwegian woman made a movie about a boy and his grandpa’s kidney stone. What follows is a disturbing art film about bodily functions and fluids. Get ready for a swim! (WARNING: gross stuff ahead)
Simon lives with his grandpa, a widowed saxophonist, and they have a self-pitying stuffed bear that talks like a hot dog salesman. The night before grandpa’s jazz band reunion show (whom grandma sang for) he wakes up Simon with the kind of groaning that a football to the crotch or bad burrito will induce. Feeling helpless, the boy and the whiny bear bust out a chemistry set and shrink Simon to microbial size.
It all starts with grandpa’s mouth (specifically his giant lip and tongue). Simon steps over taste buds the size of basketballs, some of which talk. A lot. They even have telephones.
They are disturbed by the boy and want to know how he tastes. Bitter bud calls the Brain. (more…)

Ok after my plea from my blog earlier today for someone to reveal to me and in a way reunite me with one of my all time favorite toys as a kid I got a speedy response from my friend TJ! It turns out that I was on the right track as I tried to remember the name of one of the coolest late 70′s toy monsters, Krusher!! I was searching for Crusher instead but now have found some rad images of him and a strange Youtube video as well. First off here’s what he looked like on the cover of the box he came in! What a bad ass huh?? You could deflate him and krush him up into a ball-then inflate him usuing his nifty belt!
So I thought maybe there would be a cool old school commercial up on Youtube but instead I first found this weird video of this guy playing with Krusher while Olivia Newton John’s hit song “Physical” plays in the background. (more…)

One thing I really hate are region 2 DVDS and super expensive VHS tapes! There are a few movies I’m trying to track down but one in particular that I have never seen is a movie called “Spookies”. This amazingly bad looking creature feature came out in 1986 and as a kid I remember the awesome looking cover at the video stores.
Somehow this one slipped through my fingers, I have never seen it and it has never been released on dvd in the USA. I have been checking ebay but the vhs copies are actually kinda pricey. Anyway I may just have to watch it on Youtube (which can kinda suck) as it seems like the only way I am going to actually view this anytime soon. I suppose too since I have been quite under the weather this week that really wouln’t be such a bad idea? Anyway being a huge fan of 80′s horror and an even bigger fan of a good or bad monster movie this one appears to have all the right ingredients for success! Check out the trailer for this and if you have a spare copy let me know!!

I just saw the trailer to a pretty cool looking sci fi monster flick from Australia. The Dark Lurking looks like it’s got a great old school 80′s vibe to it very reminiscent of Aliens. If there’s one thing I am always down for it’s cool moster movie! In The Dark Lurking, a research station one mile beneath the Earth’s surface a horde of ravenous creatures is killing everything they see. 8 survivors are all that remain, running low on ammo, light and hope.

I just saw this cool trailer for an upcoming horror movie called Altitude. It’s dirtected by Marvel comics vet Kaare Andrews and looks like a pretty exciting little movie. Check out the synopsis:
“Lost in a mysterious cloudbank, a rookie pilot and her four teenage friends must contend with a freak mechanical failure that first sends their small plane climbing to an impossible height, and then plummeting through endless mist.
After regaining control, the survivors are confronted with a horrifying realization – the very ground beneath them has vanished and a malevolent force lurking in the clouds wants them dead.”

Well, it is not every day that you get such a treat as this…and believe me, this one was an unknown surprise. Do you like big monsters…do you like video games…do you like anime?? Then I can’t overstate my recommendation to watch Negadon: The Monster for Mars!

There’s some MORE new real life monster footage that just popped up today and is storming the news! This is fantastic news considering I’m a HUGE fan of monsters! It seems another creature has has shown it’s face recently in Panama. This one looking much different than the supposed recent Chupacabra found dead has been called a “Gollum” like monster as shown in the movie Lord Of The Rings. I will agree it does resemble him quite a bit. This thing is thought to be the legendary “Montauk Monster“.

Sometimes I wish I was back in the 80′s when life seemed a little simpler and the horror movies were still fun! There’s just something special about a good 80′s monster movie. There sure are plenty of them too but there’s alot that fall between the cracks and remain forgotten by most. The Unnamable from 1988 is one of those cool ass monster movies of yore that I speak of! Sure it’s cheezy and there’s a bunch of dumb teens that their asses served to them by a wicked female monster! I must say though I think the creature effects are pretty awesome and monster is pretty frightening.

I am pretty pumped about the upcoming sci-fi horror movie entitled “Pandorum” out Sept. 25th. I love a good sci-fi movie but what I love more is a cool ass monster! So far from this newly released clip of the monster in that movie it looks pretty promising. Not being a fan of CG monsters (sorry Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus) it appears as if in this clip we may have a much more organic feel to the movie’s creature. Check it out:
