The Technicolor Nightmare Pt. 2–SUPER XUXA VS. SATAN by sheaehs

Anyone who braves through JIMMY, THE BOY WONDER (the subject of Technicolor Nightmare 1) can theoretically tolerate a little singing and dancing. But where JIMMY is creepy as hell, XUXA is cuter than a sugar turd on a neon birthday cake.

SUPER XUXA VS. SATAN (A. Penido, 1988)

(Or SUPER XUXA CONTRA O BAIXO ASTRAL)

double double your refreshment!!

Xuxa Meneghel is a bonafide Brazilian superstar whose fame derives from a series of strange family films in the eighties. Some of my male friends have characterized her as “hot”. This film is the copycat little sister to LABYRINTH.

Super Xuxa, blonde and billowing with butt cleavage in a mini jumper, slathers joy like hair mayo everywhere she goes. (more…)

Dungeon Masters & the Real World… by petersaturday

Finally a movie I can really relate too, The Dungeon Masters! Well, we’ll see I guess, but nonetheless a movie centered around the lives of three Dungeon Masters. I guess this movie is showing what the life is like of those who are completely immersed in the culture and subculture of Dungeons & Dragons. How they deal with the real world and the role their fantasy world plays in their every day living. I know that there are groups of people who play D&D religiously almost every day of the week. People who LARP as well every weekend. I do play D&D though at the moment there is no game we’re playing, I am looking forward to the next adventure. I definately look forward to seeing this movie and seeing how different our lives are or maybe how similar they are. I’m also interested to see the game play of the different Dungeon Masters and what kind of game and environment they produce for their players.

I’d say the groups I have played in have been pretty hardcore. Sometimes we’ve dressed up, we play in the basement by candlelight, (more…)

Have you ever seen “strings”? by petersaturday

About a week ago I was out for a drink with a friend and I saw a portion of a movie they were projecting that literally blew my mind! It’s a movie called Strings and it was released in 2004. Somehow I’ve never heard of it until now and when seeing this onscreen in the bar I was convinced it had to be some obscure 80′s fantasy movie that slipped through my fingers. Now keep in mind I have never seen this whole movie all the way through only viewing a portion of it with no sound either just music being played in the background. All I can say is that it looked pretty bizarre and truely fascinating. Plus I am a huge puppet fanatic so right away I knew it was a must see.I put this in my queue a few minutes ago and am pretty excited to really see what this is all about. The trailer looks pretty epic-check it out! If you have already seen it let us know what you think!

New Clash of the Titans Pics!! by petersaturday

I was on Empire Online today and saw some pretty cool images of the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans. I know, another remake RIGHT?!! Clash of the Titans was a classic so they better put some care into this film. What I have heard so far is that they are not paying any homage to Ray Harryhausen and his stop motion brilliance. Is this a good thing? My feeling is probably not since it will most likely be a CG shit fest! But the images which I’ve seen thus far actually look pretty damn cool. I have also read that this will be a much grittier film with Perseus being much more of a badass. The fate of this movie remains to be seen but what I always do welcome is another fanatsy film to look forward to until The Hobbit comes out! Hey if anyone can reccomend me a good one in the time being please do I’m all ears. What do you think of these new pics?

Finally a recent Fantasy movie that didn’t suck! by petersaturday

Just the other evening I took a gamble on renting a new movie called “Wolf Hound”. On the cover it said “Conan the Barbarian meets Lord of The Rings” and with nothing else that looked vaguely interesting I decided to reluctantly beleive what the cover was telling me. Now I’ve taken many chances on recent fantasy movies and been let down hard! Usually they are wretched movies with bad acting, terrible costumes, horrid CG sets and even worse looking CG monsters! For instance the recent movie “Outlander” had alot of potential until the creature finally shows itself on screen and ruins the entire movie. So I had pretty low expectations of Wolf Hound.

Alright, let’s just get this straight right now…there is metal, all different genres of metal in fact. You may prefer death, black, doom, speed, or maybe thrash. But when the genre of metal magic comes up, there are notable kings. But the clear dominant force of metal magic (in my humble dork opinion) is none other than the infamous Bal-Sagoth!

World’s Greatest fantasy music videos! Blind guardian in a video game!!! by petersaturday

Yeah Blind Guardian is one of the BEST metal bands EVER. If you don’t already know who this rad band is you need to go out and buy their stuff! They’ve been around since the 80′s and have only gotten better in time!! Well they appeared at the 2008 Comic Con to promote the new video game “Sacred 2″. Their music is featured in the video game and the band themselves are also. Anyway I though this was a cool video trailer for the game and most of all thought the new song they wrote for the game was pretty amazing as well….

World’s greatest fantasy music videos!! Queen!!! by petersaturday

So all this talk yesterday about Tom Hanks LARPING and this weekends return to my D&D adventure(we’ve had like a 3-week hiatus!) has got me thinking about what the BEST fantasy music videos of all time are! They have to have swords & scorcery in them and they have to be real music videos that the band made. So first up is none other than Queen with the theme song from Highlander “Princes of the Universe”!! Enjoy!! If you know of any let me know!

The Never-boring Neverending Story Video by petersaturday

I have to thank our local weekly paper’s music blog  (The Portland Mercury’s End Hits) for reminding me of this gem from my childhood.  I probably watched The Neverending Story about one zillion times when I was a kid.  The adventures of Atreyu (not the lame band) and Artax (and later Falcor) really boostered my imagination as a kid.  And, I think this video helped out.  It’s the guy from Kajagoogoo.  I always thought that big turtle guy looked like E.T.
