“Never rub another man’s rhubarb.”
-The Joker
I was watching the 1989 Batman movie the other day, mainly as an attempt to convince myself that it’s actually another Prince movie (which is the reason I look forward to time travel. I will convince his Purple Majesty to make more), but instead I found myself enjoying it the way I did in the theater that summer as a nine year-old.
Following it up with Batman Returns, I reached a holy shit! type of epiphany: It hit me why I love these movies so much: They feel like comic books. The Joker, The Penguin, the Gotham City sets, the costumes. They were suspenseful but very comic-like. Dark in a way (Pee Wee dumping a child in a sewer at Christmas!), but also really comical (Pee Wee dumping a child in a sewer at Christmas).
This really got me thinking that Tim Burton needs to continue where he left off. He started something great that went on to become something like the comic-book equivalent of the mullet and more recently to the great, but all-too “real”. Batman doesn’t need to be fucking real, he’s Batman! The more I think about, the less I want his costumes and finances explained to me. Fuck Lucious Fox and Research and Development (But let’s keep Morgan Freeman in it somewhere) and dog-resistant kevlar. Why do we even need to know that stuff?

Anyone remember DC’s Super Powers Collection action figures from the 80′s? They were probably the best action figures ever! They today still look amazing and there were soooo many of them. They made figures of some pretty obscure characters too. My favorites were The Red Tornado, the Joker, Penguin, Brainiac and the Flash but they were all pretty amazing really.

There is a phenomenon sweeping the world right now. One that should have happened many years ago-REAL LIFE SUPER HEROES!!! I have thought for years that superheroes didn’t exist but this last weekend i found out how wrong I truely was when I stumbled upon worldsuperheroregistry.com. It turns out there are a whole slew of superheroes out on the scene patrolling our streets. Whether or not they are anything like Batman or Daredevil remains to be seen-but they are out there! Perhaps it was the recent success of Mark Millar’s KICK-ASS which has got the normal Joe donning the spandex? Or maybe the loads of superhero movies in the past years? Either way It was nice to find out that out on our dangerous streets at night you will feel perhaps just a little more safe knowing that these guys are watching out for your safety check it out!

I am posting this just in case some of you out there have never seen this! It was made by some one at the Stan Winston studio a few years back and features “Boner” from Growing Pains as The Joker! Personally i think this version of the Joker & Batman are the closest we have seen on film to how they look in the comics. I always hoped in the major motion pictures they would have given Batman this classic look instead of the armor like suits he has always donned. Anyway if you have never seen this check it out and be warned of the strange twist the movie takes (i guess it makes sense that this was someone from Stan Winstons’ studio when you see who the guest stars are). If you have seen it already enjoy it again one more time…
