Universal Dork

Take me back to 1985! Yie Ar Kung FU!!! by petersaturday

Yes please take me back to 1985! Back when arcade games were super rad and fun to play! I know all of you out there think XBOX with it’s fancy ass graphics is the shit but you know what? I am a nerd, true, but I haven’t gotten sucked into these new video games! The closest I got was a few years back when I played the Nintendo Game Cube a couple times a week! I have to say X-Men Legends was a fun game, Baldur’s Gate was a blast too but you know I just never could get sucked into these ultra violent games that people spend their lives playing today. Instead I think about going to the arcade back in the day and playing my favorite fighting game, “Yie Ar Kung Fu”!

Many may be wondering what the hell I am talking about? Well back when I was a kid we’d spend a lot of time at our cottage in Northern Wisconsin and my brother and I would head to a tiny arcade in a laundromat in the tiny city of Elcho. We be there for one game Konami’s Yie Ar Kung Fu was the best fighting game! You played a sort of Bruce Lee like character named Oolong who well spends his time kicking a lot of ass through ten different bad ass foes armed with dangerous fans, clubs and tonfun.

I haven’t played this game in decades but somehow today I found myself wishing I could find a stand up version somewhere-Believe me I would be playing for hours if I did. This has really gotten me to thinking that the whole idea of arcades should come back with similar style stand up games. Someone out there needs to make some new version old school games in the old format-at the end of the day I just don’t have time to screw with a controller with like twenty buttons on it-just give me a roller ball and a button like centipede and I am a happy camper….

I was thinking this morning for some reason about fun it used to be when I was a kid in the 80′s and I’d spend a far too hot summer afternoon with my friends playing Nintendo in my brother’s room in the basement. Those were good times, eating chips, drinkin’ pop chilling in the cool basement and most of all playing video games. These definately weren’t the games of today with ultra realistic graphics and a controller with like fifty buttons on it. Nope, these were times when video games were actually fun to play!! Simple and to the point, well most of ‘em at least. We’d play ‘em all back then, Super Mario Bros, Castlevania, Rygar, Mega Man and one game in particular which drove us fucking bat shit crazy- Ghosts ’n Goblins!!! Just seeing the packaging alone for this game here below brings back so many nostalgic memories of the 80′s and many extremely frustrating ones as well!

Yeah this was one of my favorite games of all time for some reason-me and my brother played the shit out of this game trying to beat it and to this day were never able to do so (more…)

More Captain America News and New Tron: Legacy Trailer! by petersaturday

Well some people seemed to think that ”The Office” star John Krasinski would be perfect cast as Captain America. I’m not quite sure if it was just because of his appeal from the show, his quirkiness or his acting chops. For me, though he seemed a familiar face and a funny guy just really couldn’t see him as Cap. So today I was a bit relieved when it was officially decided today that he is NOT going to be wielding the shield. For me I will take a sigh of relief. Really he’s the least douchey of all the candidates-so in the end perhaps who knows, maybe he would have been the best choice?

But for now I have faith they will choose someone who screams “Cap” a little more. I heard as well that Chris Evans who played The Human Torch in the god-awful Fantastic Four flicks was up for the role as well now.  Personally I’m holding out for my first pic  ”Tron Legacy” star Garrett Hedlund to snatch the role! I mean he’s in the Tron sequel with Jeff Bridges!! Oh yeah the new trailer for Tron:Legacy was also released-check it out here!

Ok well at least it’s not a remake but an actual sequel! Yeah there’s been some info released by Disney on the Tron 2: Legacy storyline and so far it sounds pretty fun plus it even has Jeff Bridges reprising his role. I know, does Tron really need a sequel? Well I guess the answer is yes. I did have fond memories of that movie as a kid and also got many hours of enjoyment from playing the video game back in the day! Now if only video games were as cool as they were back in the 80′s right? I know some people would beg to differ but really I just don’t have time these days to learn 100 different moves and work 15 different buttons on a controller. Whatever happened to video games that had like one knobby controller or a roller ball and a button?!! Something you could learn to play in a few minutes! Either way this will be one movie where the CG will be welcomed with open arms!! Check out the plot line below…

Ron Jeremy…never ceases to amaze! by konales

So for those of you that are familiar with the infamous Ron Jeremy, you know full well that there are no porn movie plots that are beneath him. From spoof of the Adam’s Family (The Maddams Family) to Flatliners (Fatliners), Mr. Jeremy has starred in over 1000 movies! And add to the madness of porn legacy that he has constructed, apparently he starred in Super Hornio Brothers…a spoof on Super Mario at the time that the Nintendo NES and SNES were kings…yeah the good old days of 1993.

Warhammer 40k to bring War to your DVD player! by konales

Warhammer 40k was my preferred role playing game growing up but it was slow to catch on. But now looking back, Warhammer 40k has persevered and definitely built quite the niche/cult following. The high appeal of the RTS games Dawn of War did not hurt at all. Without a doubt, it was my favorite universe. I loved the look and feel, the fact that there was only War! The Space Marines were the baddest ass mo-foe’s in the universe and along with Eldar, Imperial Guard, Space Orks, and many more…the races, tech, and weapons just reeked of battle. But one thing always was on my mind that would be the cherry on the top of the sundae, a movie. Well hold on to your seat fellow dorks, cause sometimes dream do come true!

Space Ace Comes to the iPhone! by konales

Wow, I could not contain my excitement when I saw this so I had to write up a quick one for you.

SPACE ACE for the iPhone!

Now, I apologize to anyone that may not have an iPhone, but just perhaps this is the tipping point for you go out and splurge! For those with the iPhone and have no clue what Space Ace is…here is a quick rundown.

Space Ace Cover

Space Ace was a laserdisc video game produced by Don Bluth. It was unveiled in October 1983 and then released in Spring 1984, and featured film-quality animation played back from a set of Pioneer laserdisc players. The game play was quite simple, but the timing was the tricky part. When I was a kid, it was always a gamble to go to the arcade with the hopes of playing Space Ace and only to find that it was out of order. This was common due to the laserdisc player format being very new and unpredictable. Obviously, with the iPhone…this is not a concern anymore. The iPhone version is actually the third incarnation of the game. The game was revamped in the late 90’s in a DVD format where you used your remote as the controller; also available on Blue Ray and HD DVD if you care.

Castlevania the Movie! by petersaturday

Let me first start of by saying that Castlevania was probably the BEST game EVER for the  NES! There were obviously some other really good ones but I will have to say this game pretty much blew my damn mind as a kid! I was the first one to beat the damn game too of any kid or teen in my whole neighborhood! My friend Dave Park (My NES partner in crime back then) and I liked it sooo much that when I beat it we were recording the final battle I had with Dracula on a VHS tape! Yeah you could do that back then. I almost lost my mind when I beat Dracula and then he suddenly turned into that HUGE white demon-then I had to kick it’s ass too! Anyway you can tell it was pretty epic for me and I still think I am some kinda video game hotshot still because of that.

Well it turns out that they are making a ”Castlevania” movie now. I am not sure about you but I don’t think that video game movies have ever turned out that good. I guess Resident Evil had some promise but really these movies end up to be clunkers. Unless this movie has all the camera angles from the side view and all the bosses from the original game it just might as well not be made! The Simon Belmont  better have a whip, some crosses and big jugs of  holy water to toss too.  Ok I admit maybe I am being a little too picky.

If you have NOT seen this video yet you are in for a treat! It’s the WOW freakout of the century! This has gotto be simply one of the most amazing things I have seen in years. I remember freaking out as kid about some  stuff I thought was pretty intense but it was never at this level of almost demonic like possession of the pre-teen soul! I guess in his defense his character was supposedly level 80 but STILL!!! Check this out!!

Ok so you didn’t have enough of this spazz? Well here he is again losing his damn mind!
