Rumors are flying today as several sources like Cinematical.com and Britain’s The Sun are saying that Tobey Maguire has signed on as the lead in Guillermo del Toro’s The Hobbit! According to Cinematical.com “AMC Entertainment blogger John Campea recently tweeted that someone close to production has leaked the same news to him. He said, “I have been personally told by a source very close to Guillermo del Toro that it’s true… Tobey Maguire IS The Hobbit.”
Though it’s not offical yet it seems to me that this could be a great choice for Bilbo. (more…)

I have been having a great time so far getting into The Fall of the Hulks series that Marvel has just launched. One reason in particular is their choice of villains they’ve got teaming up against the Hulk, or should I say Banner since technically he can’t change into the Hulk anymore (that’s not going to last for long though). But aside from awesome old school villains like the Leader and Egghead appearing the one that always gets me pumped is MODOK! Yeah that’s right the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. He’s just one of those weird ass villains I think everyone adores! His involvement in the Fall of the Hulks inspired me to re-read one of my favorite Hulk storylines which transpire in issues #287-290. If you haven’t already read these I suggest you run down to your local comic shop and pick up these back issues asap! It will give you a little more insight on his hatred for the Hulk.

I just saw this cool trailer for an upcoming horror movie called Altitude. It’s dirtected by Marvel comics vet Kaare Andrews and looks like a pretty exciting little movie. Check out the synopsis:
“Lost in a mysterious cloudbank, a rookie pilot and her four teenage friends must contend with a freak mechanical failure that first sends their small plane climbing to an impossible height, and then plummeting through endless mist.
After regaining control, the survivors are confronted with a horrifying realization – the very ground beneath them has vanished and a malevolent force lurking in the clouds wants them dead.”

Well times are tough right now financially for alot of people and I must say I have been feeling it a bit lately as well. There was a time not too long ago when I was able to go to the comic book shop and take a chance on a few new titles a week and then also get my regular titles as well. Not the case recently for me. In fact i have just started going back to comic book shop the past few weeks. Now though I am very selective on what comics I pick up and which ones I take a chance on. With many of the titles now being four bucks a pop and taking about ten minutes or under to read the small amount of content it really is time to get picky in any economy. It seemed like once the economy did get bad most comics prices jacked up even higher. I would have hoped for the reverse effect.
So what’s a guy to do about his comic book obession?! One option I have been throwing around in my head has been the digital comic book. (more…)

I was just reading a few back issues today preparing to do some “Back Issue Gold” blogs in the next couple days and ran across this awesome feature in the back of The THING #5 from 1983 that I totally forgot about. It’s an awesome “How to Draw the Thing” by the BEST Thing artist ever Mr. John Byrne. When I was a kid I actually used this to help draw some of the many pictures of the Thing I did. I am a huge fan of the Thing’s solo series John Byrne wrote in the 80′s and though he didn’t draw it he was kind enough to give us the scoop on how we could draw ol’ Ben Grimm correctly. So everyone get out your pencils and get ready to sketch!

It seems that everyone is losing their damn minds over the recent news that Sam Raimi is no longer directing Spider-man 4, Tobey Maguire is no longer Peter Parker and they’ve decided now to reboot the franchise entirely. Personally I’m pretty excited about this news! I think it’s definately time to give someone else a shot at Spider-man. The way I see it is it’s like a different writer and artist taking over a comic book title. The more I think about it, the more I think that these last three Spider-man movies really weren’t all that great.
I will admit I really enjoyed the first half of the first movie. I think they did a great job with his origin. Then the second half hits with a slaughter of perhaps one of the greatest super villains in comics. (more…)

Wow, these trailers just keep getting better and better! I cannot wait for this movie to hit theaters. To me it seems like the casting has been done to almost perfection. Anyway there’s not much more to say except that this movie is gonna kick some serious ass! Now if only they could get the next comic book issue out already!! what gives?
Filed under: Horror Whore, Movies | Tags: best horror movies of 2009, top 10, worst
So it’s come to that time of the year again where everyone is making their top ten lists of 2009. Being a huge fan of horror movies I only thought it right to once again count the best of this last year. This last year personally seemed a little lighter on the real good ones than 2008. But there were still some pretty damn great flicks that delivered the shivers.
This list is comprised of movies released in the theater or released on dvd this last year that I personally saw. So let’s get down to business!
10. Martyrs
Martyrs is a horror movie I wouldn’t recommend to anyone and it’s honestly the type of movie I try and steer clear of. (more…)

There’s a movie I have been excited for for quite sometime and recently viewing it trailer has given me even more anticipation! I am already pretty sound in my prediction that this will be the best horror comedy of 2010! “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil” is a one of a kind, completely original horror comedy. You see Tucker and Dale are hillbillies but definately not evil psychopaths. The hard thing is convincing a group of teenagers that who are headed up into the woods on a camping trip that they’re not!
It seems that all of the killer Hillbilly movies are giving them a real bad rap. Now try convincing Tucker & Dale that they aren’t being stalked by derranged teenagers! This is what director Eli Craig had to say about the storyline in his most recent interview about the film at Bloody Disgusting: (more…)

Well I found that the Captain America movie can be viewed online for free! No not the new one but the old one from 1990!!! No this isn’t the best film ever, infact it kinda sucks, but it’s alot of fun anyway. It’s also quite a tough movie to track down so in the meantime while we’re all wondering who’s going to be the next movie Cap we can all take a look at the this version and see that an improvement on it shouldn’t be too hard to pull off!
Check it out here in it’s entirely!
