Well as you may or may not already know Tim Burton is attempting to tackle Alice In Wonderland and guess what? It stars Johnny Depp. Thankfully Burton has decided NOT to cast him as Alice though I am sure that he was considering it at some point! I am really wondering if he is going to be able to pull this one off. I hope to god it’s nothing like his absolutely wretched remake of ”Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” or his completely lame version of the sci-fi classic “Planet Of The Apes”. We’ll see where he takes this one but so far the still look pretty breathtaking …

So the 1frombeyond’s post got me all fired up yesterday about MY favorite comic book artist of all time, Mr. John Byrne! Ever since I was a kid I loved and knew his artwork. I’d always get pretty pumped when I would see a comic book drawn by him-even at my young age I just knew there was something special about it. Perhaps it was his amazing sense of detail? Either way there are so many things I truely love about his artwork. To me he is one of the All Time Greatest and most influential comic book artists ever. Right up there with Kirby and yes even…um…Liefeld.
Anyway I decided to post some of my favorite pics that I have always loved of his artwork. Whether it’s a cover or interior panel it’s clear he was and is still the master. In a day and age where any and every band is reuniting and Harrison Ford is once again Indiana Jones, I do truely think it’s time that Marvel reunites John Byrne & Chris Claremont for another run on the X-Men!!

Over on the message boards of the greatest comic artist/writer ever, John Byrne, talk about Chris Claremont’s new X-Men Forever (a book continuing the 90′s series from issue #3) has brought out “thought excercises” and a few sketches from Byrne on what he would do if he could continue his run from where he left off with X-Men #143. Now, again, this is only just what-if type discussion with zero backing to it at this point, but if fanning these flames helps get something started, then I am all for it. Check out this impromtu sketch by Byrne (damn, that man has still got it)!
Wow. So it really is true Michael Jackson is dead. I was at work today with no internet access and got several texts messages when it happened. So now I am home and saw it on Yahoo’s main page. I have always thought for some reason Michael was immortal. He was like some sort of crazy superhero. Well things got pretty crazy for him in his long career. He made some pretty amazing music, the greatest music video of all time and quite possibly some bad decisions of who he should or shouldn’t have been hanging out with. Anyway we’ll see what happens now that the king of pop has passed away. I just can’t see Michael passing away without some sort of bang. I could see people all over the world getting golden tickets or something much like a modern Willy Wonka or maybe him really coming back from the dead as a zombie. Either way let’s for a minute go back to a simpler time with Ol’ Jacko when he had cartoons being made about him and he was just an innocent kid:

There’s been ALOT opf hype lately about the return of the Ghostbusters! Especially since the recent arrival of the Ghostbusters video game which all the original ‘Busters voiced. It seems that all of the original cast members are all back for a third feature film with Rick Moranis only to be rumored and I believe fiming is to begin later this year. I am not sure about everyone else but I’m all about some good nostalgia! I really enjoyed the last Indiana Jones film and I get alot of shit for it all the time. I usually welcome good bands reuniting if at the very least just to see what happens and if they can actually pull it off successfully. So naturally I am pretty excited to see what they do with this new Ghostbusters movie.

I know this may come a little late for some universaldork readers but since I just stumbled across this, I felt it worthy of my reporting time because not only does it bring up a very serious comic book industry issue for me (more on this later), it’s absolutely fucking bananas and makes me feel even more like
Robert Kirkman is full of shit.

First off, Kirkman’s bizarrely confrontational stance here really bothers me. Why does he need to come protect Liefeld from the school bully that is the comic book message boards? In WIZARD, no less!? Two possibilities here:
A. He genuinely believes this b.s. or
B. Image put him up to this.
Unfortunately, I have to go with A, because at the time of this little editorial, Liefeld wasn’t exclusive to Image and in fact was hard at work on the very forgettable Onslaught: Reborn for Marvel. For those who didn’t click on the link, here are a few gems from the commentary:
“But Rob – who else could you compare to Jack? Rob has the same energy on his pages…”
No. No he doesn’t. What’s being mistaken for “energy” is the ability to cause the brain to work overtime in order to accurately understand what dimension what object is coming from.
I just had to post this here. I saw it last night for the first time and laughed so hard that I was in tears. Check out this video of the worst weatherman of all time as he struggles painfully to keep it together and make it through this daily weather segment!! This is truely brilliant….

Well it’s Father’s Day! To really bring some good vibes on this lovely day I thought it would be nice if here at Universal Dork we spent some quality time with one of our favorite movie dads-The Stepfather!! Man did he have it rough! All he ever wanted was a good wholesome american family and some damn respect!! Instead what does he get? A wife and kid who who constantly piss him off! Let’s face it The Stepfather had to make ALOT of sacrifices to make his family perfect-so what if he had to kill a few people along the way right? Why does everyone got to constantly step to The Stepfather. He even came back from the dead and returned for more damn fatherin’ in a sequel! How dedicated is that? Well let’s take a moment here to remember some good time spent with Terry O’Quinn, LOST’s John Locke, as he shows all the real dads out there how to handle a small family disagreement!
