Last night I watched “Dead Heat” for the first time ever and I must say it was pretty damn rad! I really can’t beleive I have never seen it before. It stars Treat Williams and Joe Piscopo of Saturday Night Live fame. It’s basically an awesome 80′s buddy cop movie with zombies and some cool monsters. It’s premise is simple, someone is reanimating dead people from the morgue and using them as zombie criminals. Then it’s up to Treat and Piscopo, who serves as the poor man’s Mel Gibson, to get to the bottom of all this funny business. It’s got some really original scenes as well, such as zombies using machine guns and the restaurant kitchen scene where everything from fried chicken, to liver and a side of beef become enraged killing machines! It was a nice surprise to see an actual flick from the 80′s I had never seen before that really delivered the goods! So if you find yourself at the local video store craving something totally campy and highly entertaining check out this classic from 1987!!

If for some reason you have never heard of the Quay Brothers you really have to check this and everything they have done out! They have produced probably the most bizarre stop motion animation peices ever caught on film. I know everyone thinks “The Nightmare Before Christmas” was unique-but seriously these guys are the masters. The only way I can really describe their work is that is is truely nightmaric and beautiful at the same time. I beleive Tool had a video that was heavily based on their work. Anyway I have just gotten a Quay Brothers collection in the mail and thought that every one should know who these guys are if for some reason you have not already heard of them. Check this stuff out. It’s truely amazing!!!

Yes! Mentally Challenged Magneto is BACK! Yeah he’s back alright and more mentally challenged than ever! This scene occurs near the end of the “Menace of Magneto” Fantastic Four cartoon. After a very un-epic battle with Reed Richards a gun is pulled on Magneto. Yeah ol’ Magneto is still really into talking in third person and narrating what he is going to doing in battle before he does it to his enemies! The clencher here is when Magneto learns he cannot control the gun that is pointed at him! He immediately assumes that all his magnetic power is lost for good-and admits he basically is a total hack with out it! Then when Richards tells him that the gun is made of wood & Magneto CONTINUES to give up surrendering to the police rather than kicking some major ass with his magnetic powers! The best line is at the very end as Magneto is taken away by the police as he admits defeat! What are you waiting for? Go hunt down this epic cartoon already!!
HEY JESSIKA!! It’s your birthday today! the BIG 2-5! Party again like a Superhero!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Remember all those rad trailers at the beginning of Tarantino & Rodriguez’s ”Grindhouse” double feature in 2007? Well I have just heard that filming for the “Machete” movie, based on the amazing fake trailer shown before the double feature is going to officially start filming in June in Austin, Texas. With Robert Rodriguez writing, directing and producing this one it’s sure to be another amazing, completely over the top film. Machete, a film about the blade- wielding antihero, features the legendary Danny Trejo as the title charcter. A Mexican ex-Federale with a knack for chopping up bad guys like sushi, masquerading as a day laborer, who’s double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.

This is one of my all time favorite pictures of Elektra by Bill Seinkeiwicz who in my opinion is one of the best artist ever in comic book history. I even have the poster of this on my bedroom wall. But still every time I look at it I can’t help but wonder why her gun is SO damn big?!!

This version of Elektra would not be caught dead anywhere near Ben Affleck….
Well ok maybe more disco than rock.
Alot of people consider Dazzler as one of the more lame X-men characters, but always had a soft spot for her in my heart. She first appeared in one of the best X-stories ever The Dark Phoenix Saga and then went on to star in her own graphic novel and series. I always dug the graphic novel cause for its time it really showed what a mutants life was like and not just as a super hero. She drinks, parties, over eats, and sleeps her way to the top . She even outs herself as a mutant to gain publicity for her new movie and singing career. This all doesn’t turn out so well, but you need to read the Graphic Novel to find out more. After that she joined the X-men, lost her memory, marries Longshot and finally returns with pink short hair.
Oh and she can’t be that lame if she was asked to be the Herald of Galactus! Good Marvel What If story by the way.

Here we have perhaps the greatest cartoon of all time!! The Menace of Magneto!! This episode from the Fantastic Four series w/ Herbie the Robot is one of my all time favorites. I own this on VHS and have watched this, shown it to friends a million times and it NEVER disappoints! There is clearly something very wrong with Magneto on this particular afternoon! The first clue is that damn ridiculous car he’s driving around!! Is that the best he could do for a vehicle?!
Hey yesterday I forgot to post the trailer to ”The Burrowers”, a new western monster movie, which comes out on dvd today. There has been alot of hype on this one….

I must say as far as horror movies go I am a HUGE fan of monster movies!! So any time I see a good one I want to make sure I get the word out there about it. I finally got to see “Splinter” which i somehow missed the first time around when it played in town here last year. Well last tuesday it was released on dvd and I made sure to pick it up! If I would have caught this one in the theater it would have most definaltely made it into my top 10 horror flicks of 2008 list I did a while back.
